Kat Severn is a daughter of privilege, born to money and power.
Half her relatives are military legends, the other form the
political and economic power running Nu new England, the principle
city of the post-war, early 22nd century Federation of America,
Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. She has been raised
only to be beautiful and marry well, but looking for a chance to
prove herself through merit, rather than connections, Kat decides
to join the Fleet, against the wishes of her powerful parents. If
ensuring she doesn't disappoint her family's high expectations
wasn't enough, Kat is soon leading a mission to rescue a kidnapped
child. Then she and her high-tech computer Safi are sent into
Alaska where a volcanic eruption has caused famine and a complete
breakdown of society. After varying degrees of success, Kat leads a
rebellion against her commander to prevent a cohort of military
hawks from turning a peaceful ceremony into a bloodbath, with
repercussions that can only herald another war. For Kat, failure is
not an option.
The fearful Romans are coming! Invaders and Raiders: Romans
describes the Roman invasion and settlement of Britain from the
viewpoint of a native Celt. The all-conquering Roman army, Roman
daily life and customs are all explored against a backdrop of
fierce fighting, surrender and life under Roman rule. The book
concludes with a look at the Roman legacy in Britain and the
eventual fall of the Roman Empire. Illustrated with a mix of
illustrations and found objects, each book describes a great
civilisation, its customs and organisations, how it began and
expanded, and finally how it ended.

Greece's recent political turmoil captured the imagination of the
left across Europe. Elected in January 2015 under the leadership of
Alexis Tsipras, the radical Syriza party sought to challenge the
European economic status-quo and secure a better future for the
Greek people. The fierce confrontation with Greece's creditors
which followed reverberated around the world. Kevin Ovenden tells
the rocky story of Syriza's first six months in office. Despite the
party's many defeats, the rise (and fall) of Syriza is a symbolic
and important story to tell. The twists and turns of the bailout
negotiations with the Troika, the brief reign of iconoclastic
Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, and the worrying rise of Golden
Dawn and the extreme right all converge to create a pivotal moment
in Europe's recent history. Published in partnership with the Left
Book Club.
