From Paul Thomas Anderson comes the outrageous epic that throws the covers back on California's adult entertainment industry in the swinging seventies. It's a touching and often humorous portrait of a most unusual family of filmakers, and the film was nominated for 3 Oscars, including Best Supporting actor for Burt Reynolds and Best Supporting Actress for Julianne Moore. Includes loads of special features.
With the unstoppable onslaught of large corporations taking over independent funeral directors, this story tells of one such independent funeral director in London who is determined to unload his funeral homes onto the Norwegian private equity company Steiffen-Koch, which is offering big krone for a piece of the UK funeral market. Winston Clodpense Rott's whole work force face an uncertain future until the shenanigans of a local crime lord and two bungling cremation superintendents bring about a startling change. Rott's team, led by Douglas Deeler, comprises a host of dysfunctional and disgusting characters, all of who, despite their hygiene and habit issues, become the core players in this wry, tongue-in-cheek glimpse into the world of dealing with the dead.

A spine-tingling story of an experiment by the Department of Defense to increase the useful life of U.S. tactical pilots.Four 65-year-old retired U.S. Navy fighter pilots volunteer for an experimental program conducted at the Naval Aeromedical Institute in Pensacola, Florida using a cocktail of wonder drugs developed by the National Institute of Health. These crusty aviators advance through the increasingly demanding phases of the experiment, achieving spectacular results. They are put back into training airplanes and proceed to "burn up the course."The reversal of their aging process also has some interesting side-effects on their family relationships. Their wives threaten to end their husbands' participation unless they are included in the experiment.Next, the pilots advance to fleet fighter planes and end up deploying on an aircraft carrier to the Western Pacific flying Tomcat fighters. In an action-packed "incident" over the Sea of Japan they tangle with Nort Korean SU-27 fighters they realize the culmination of their wildest dreams. The story is an enlightening look at what happens when the aging process is reversed in four people involved in one of the world's most hazardous professions; and what happens when their wives become part of the experiment.

"This book discusses the meaning and practice of British community cohesion policies, youth identities in racially-tense areas and the British government's attempts to "prevent violent extremism" amongst young Muslims"--
This book is available as open access through the Bloomsbury Open Access programme and is available on www.bloomsburycollections.com. How should we understand home-grown terrorism like the 7/7 London bombings? This is a classic monograph focusing on recent British attempts to 'prevent violent extremism', their problems and limitations, and what lessons this can offer for more effective policy approaches in future. Paul Thomas's extensive research suggests that the Prevent policy approaches, and the wider CONTEST counter-terrorism strategy, have been misguided and ineffective, further alienating British Muslim communities instead of supporting longer-term integration. He argues that new, cohesion-based approaches encouraging greater trust and integration across all communities represent the best defence against terrorism.
This study examines Marx's disputes with, and attacks upon, those anarchist theoreticians he encountered at various stages of his career. Marx's attacks on Stirner, Proudhon and Bakunin are shown to be of vital importance to his career as a theorist and revolutionist. The formative influences upon Marx's writings and his political activity are discussed and analyzed. The author re-situates Marx's thought in the context of the 19th century when Marxism was not an unchallenged orthodoxy but a doctrine and method that needed to be defended against rival revolutionary impulses.
This book may provide the first and only clinical analysis that shows just why there is no such thing as irrational or dysfunctional behavior. The nonlinear contingency analysis presented demonstrates through principle and application that even the most personally costly behavior is in fact adaptive and sensible behavior when available alternatives and their consequences are explicitly considered --This book shows how a nonlinear consequential contingency analysis, goes beyond cognitive behavioral treatment, to provide an entirely new approach to clinical intervention. For those employing cognitive behavioral and related treatments this will be a must-read for the opportunity it provides practitioners to challenge and expand their treatment options, and or those who teach the increasingly growing number of BCBA candidates, this is the only book that will directly relate the scientific literature being taught in their programs to clinical intervention. This is one of the few books to provide a comprehensive approach to treating clinically complex behavior problems such as delusions and hallucinations, as well as a framework for behavior problems arising from organic sources, such as those found in cognitive decline.
The only companion book to the much-anticipated follow-up to Paul Thomas Anderson's critically hailed Boogie Nights that "leaves you no doubt you are in the presence of a natural-born filmmaker."--David Ansen, Newsweek. The much-heralded writer-director deliberately withheld information about his new film during production because "I feel lately as if I know everything about a movie before I see it, and I really want the audience to discover this purely." Featuring an ensemble cast (see below), in, in an unbilled role, Tom Cruise (who called Anderson to express interest in working with him), the film is now described as "a story about family relationships and bonds that have been broken and need to be mended in one day...set in the San Fernando Valley on a day full of rain with no clouds." Magnolia: The Illustrated Screenplay includes the complete shooting script, introduction and script notes by Anderson, a photo section with about 40 photos in color, and interview with the writer/director, and complete cast and crew credits.
Health care is increasingly under pressure. Budget crises are making collaboration and smart thinking essential, while increasing numbers of people with multiple long-term conditions make specialist models of health care increasingly inefficient - patients too often go from one specialist to another, duplicating effort and paying too little attention to the bigger picture of their health. Collaborating for Health outlines a solution: community-oriented integrated care and health promotion. Designed to prevent the problems of fragmented care, this approach focuses on building teams, networks and communities for health and care at local level, where it is easier to see the range of factors that affect people's health. With the emphasis on partnership-working between primary care, public health and others, it allows clusters of general practices to share the work of integrating efforts for care and health improvement, and for non-medical organisations to lead parallel initiatives for health and care. Introducing both horizontal and vertical integration, Thomas presents ways to develop community-oriented integrated care in a sustainable way, and how to practise the skills in small ways before you have to perform on a big stage. This guide is for anyone interested in how multidisciplinary primary care teams can orchestrate most aspects of health and care at local level, with timely specialist input.

Evaluation research findings should be a key element of the policy-making process, yet in reality they are often disregarded. This valuable book examines the development of evaluation and its impact on public policy by analysing evaluation frameworks and criteria which are available when evaluating public policies and services. It further examines the nature of evidence and its use and non-use by decision-makers and assesses the work of influential academics in the USA and UK in the context of evaluation and policy making. The book emphasises the 'real world' of decision-makers in the public sector and recognises how political demands and economic pressures can affect the decisions of those who commission evaluation research while providing recommendations for policymakers on adopting a different approach to evaluation. This is essential reading for under-graduate and post-graduate students of policy analysis and public sector management, and those who are involved in the planning and evaluation of public policies and services.

Nano is Greek for dwarf and the word nanotechnology 'was first proposed in the early seventies by a Japanese engineer, Norio Taniguchi, implying a new technology that went beyond controlling materials and engineering on the micrometer scale that dominated the 20th Century'. The content for this book has been based on a self-emergent process. It explores an art historical understanding of matter and uses various hypotheses to elucidate the effects on materiality and agency as a result of the emergence of nanotechnology. The blurring of material boundaries are reflected in the establishment of a fluid organic spatial narrative in which to place ideas, propositions and concerns. A cornerstone of the book is the concept posed in the philosophical writings of Lucretius of the unpredictability of the atoms' swerve and its formative role in the beginning of all matter, form, life and individuality. It focusses on the concepts of vibration, vitalism, life and materiality and extends the artist's concepts of agency in relation to matter.
