Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
International custom "as evidence of a general practice accepted as
law", is considered one of the two main sources of international
law as it primarily derives from the conduct of sovereign States,
but is also closely connected with the role of the international
judge when identifying the applicable customary rule, a function it
shares with the bodies in charge of its codification (and
progressive development), starting with the International Law
Commission. Though mainly considered to be general international
law, international custom has a complex relationship with many
specific fields of law and specific regions of the world. The
editor provides comprehensive research published in the last seven
decades, invaluable to everyone interested in the field of
customary international law.
This collection of essays gathers contributions from leading
international lawyers from different countries, generations and
angles with the aim of highlighting the multifaceted history of
international law. This volume questions and analyses the origins
and foundations of the international legal system. A particular
attention is devoted to Hugo Grotius as one of the founding fathers
of the law of nations. Several contributions further question the
positivist tradition initiated by Vattel and endorsed by scholars
of the 19th Century. This immersion in the intellectual origins of
international law is enriched by an inquiry into the practice of
the law of nations, including its main patterns and changing
evolution as well as the role of non-western traditions and the
impact of colonization.
colonisation.

Water is flowing all around us; in nature, in the home, and even
inside our bodies. In this descriptive storybook, young readers
will dive into simple explanations of the different states of
water, how weather cycles work, how water reaches our homes, and
how crucial it is for daily life. They'll soak up some startling
statistics, too - did you know, three quarters of the Earth's
surface is covered in water? This title is part of the My First
Discovery paperback series - a unique collection of beautifully
illustrated information books for children aged 4 to 7, with simple
language to aid learning and realistic artwork to inspire young
minds. There are 8 transparent overlay pages, which reveal hidden
surprises and make the pages come alive. With free access to a
brand new audio app, children can listen and read along at their
own pace, page by page.
Parametric cost estimating, when properly used, is a very powerful
and cost effective technique. Unfortunately, this technique is
often misunderstood and rejected by many potential users for whom
it could be a beneficial tool. The development of an agreement on
how to use it and how to recognise its limitations is a major
benefit to the cost estimating community.
From Product Description to Cost: A Practical Approach:
a [ presents different ways of parametrically forecasting costs,
and the advantages and disadvantages of these methods by using real
examples from the mechanical, software and building industries;
a [ discusses most of the mathematical procedures which are
useful for parametrically forecasting costs;
a [ introduces the judgement needed to audit the ways in which
these forecasting techniques are used, firstly as a process, and
secondly as a tool to generate estimates.
Volume 1: The Parametric Approach contains four parts. Over the
course of this volume, cost estimating is introduced; the
preparation of data before utilization is discussed; the basic
concepts of a ~generala (TM) cost estimating models are examined;
the use of cost models is considered and finally, risk analysis (as
it can be used during parametric cost estimating) is
introduced.
This textbook presents in a unified manner the fundamentals of both
continuous and discrete versions of the Fourier and Laplace
transforms. These transforms play an important role in the analysis
of all kinds of physical phenomena. As a link between the various
applications of these transforms the authors use the theory of
signals and systems, as well as the theory of ordinary and partial
differential equations. The book is divided into four major parts:
periodic functions and Fourier series, non-periodic functions and
the Fourier integral, switched-on signals and the Laplace
transform, and finally the discrete versions of these transforms,
in particular the Discrete Fourier Transform together with its fast
implementation, and the z-transform. This textbook is designed for
self-study. It includes many worked examples, together with more
than 120 exercises, and will be of great value to undergraduates
and graduate students in applied mathematics, electrical
engineering, physics and computer science.
