Twelve year old Jerad goes on a quest to see the flaming sword guarding the Garden of Eden. But the giant Nephilim also want the sword and will ride their mighty dinosaurs over anything in their way to get it.
In the twenty-first century, traditional legal borders - both geographic and intellectual - have been increasingly contested. Many observers have questioned whether the long-held conceptions of sovereign state boundaries remain salient in a world of technology-accelerated transnational flows of people, capital, and information. Meanwhile, scholars across the social sciences and humanities have begun crossing disciplinary borders in unprecedented ways, co-opting new methodologies and engaging in meaningful and sustained dialogue about the meaning of law in its changing global context. These emerging movements prompt important questions: what are the nature and implications of shifting legal borders? What does the future hold for them? What role do new technologies play in this evolving story? Law and Disciplinarity: Thinking beyond Borders sets forth to answer these questions by way of distinguished scholars drawn from across a wide range of disciplines, including law, political science, international relations, and communications.
The problematic literary relationship among the Synoptic Gospels has given rise to numerous theories of authorship and priority. Rethinking the Synoptic Problem familiarizes readers with the main positions held by New Testament scholars and updates evangelical understandings of this much-debated area of research. Contributors Craig L. Blomberg Darrell L. Bock William R. Farmer Scot McKnight Grant R. Osborne "An exciting and readable overview of the present state of the Synoptic problem. The entries are balanced, probing, and incisive, making the volume a valuable introduction for all who would learn more about the knotty but inescapable enigma at the heart of the Gospels." -David Dungan, University of Tennessee "This set of essays by first-class conservative New Testament scholars constitutes a fine case study of competing views on the Synoptic debate. This volume is eminently fair and helps the reader sort out complex evidence in the study of Gospel parallels. A commendable attitude of humility attends the discussion." -Royce G. Gruenler, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary David Alan Black (D.Theol., University of Basel) is professor of New Testament and Greek at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. David R. Beck (Ph.D., Duke University) is associate professor of New Testament and Greek at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
This Symposium, the first devoted entirely to the measurement and the role of magnetic fields in the non-solar Universe, was held in Heidelberg, on June 19-23, 1989. The meeting began with review talks on magnetic phenomena near the solar photosphere, corona, and in stellar winds, since these nearby "laboratories," studied for many years, provide much of the prior knowl edge of magnetic effects in astrophysical plasmas. The Symposium contained presentations of considerable new work concerning the role of magnetic fields in accretion disks, bipolar outflows, and related magnetic phenomena in molecular clouds and star forming regions. Both observa tions and related theory of the large-scale magnetic fields in the Milky Way were covered, in addition to a session on the more general theme of magnetohydrodynamics of galactic magnetic fields. Dynamo mechanisms were discussed in considerable detail. It was apparent that recent observational data on polarized emission from external galaxies are now of sufficiently high quality that meaningful tests of large-scale field amplification, and of ideas on the origin of galactic magnetic fields, can be undertaken. Both new observations and numerical simulation work were described in the context of active galaxy nuclei, supernova remnants, radio source jets and extended lobes, and also in the environment of galaxy clusters. Recent large-scale computer simulations incorporating magnetic fields in star formation, radio source jets, and many other phenomena were presented, and much of this was very new."
A Brief History of Ancient Astrology explores the theory and practice of astrology from Babylon to Ancient Greece and Rome and its cultural and political impact on ancient societies. * Discusses the union between early astrology and astronomy, in contrast to the modern dichotomy between science and superstition. * Explains the ancient understanding of the zodiac and its twelve signs, the seven planets, and the fixed circle of 'places' against which the signs and planets revolve. * Demonstrates how to construct and interpret a horoscope in the ancient manner, using original ancient horoscopes and handbooks. * Considers the relevance of ancient astrology today.
How are causal judgements such as 'The ice on the road caused the traffic accident' connected with counterfactual judgements such as 'If there had not been any ice on the road, the traffic accident would not have happened'? This volume throws new light on this question by uniting, for the first time, psychological and philosophical approaches to causation and counterfactuals. Traditionally, philosophers have primarily been interested in connections between causal and counterfactual claims on the level of meaning or truth-conditions. More recently, however, they have also increasingly turned their attention to psychological connections between causal and counterfactual understanding or reasoning. At the same time, there has been a surge in interest in empirical work on causal and counterfactual cognition amongst developmental, cognitive, and social psychologists--much of it inspired by work in philosophy. In this volume, twelve original contributions from leading philosophers and psychologists explore in detail what bearing empirical findings might have on philosophical concerns about counterfactuals and causation, and how, in turn, work in philosophy might help clarify the issues at stake in empirical work on the cognitive underpinnings of, and relationships between, causal and counterfactual thought.
With the introduction of cardiac surgery more than five decades ago and the use of the heart-lung machine for open heart surgical procedures granting the surgeon unlimited time in which to operate inside the heart, a complex task has been given to the Perfusionist. With a pairing of a perfusionist and a surgeon for each chapter, this book is an essential collection of techniques and protocols to aid in decision making in the operating room.
The role of women in positions of worship and church leadership is one of the most divisive and inconclusive biblical debates. Two Views on Women in Ministry furnishes you with a clear and thorough presentation of the two primary exegetical arguments so you can better understand each one's strengths, weaknesses, and complexities. Egalitarian - equal ministry opportunity for both genders (represented by Linda L. Belleville and Craig S. Keener) Complementarian - men and women fill distinctive ministry roles (represented by Craig L. Blomberg and Thomas R. Schreiner) This revised edition brings the exchange of ideas and perspectives into the traditional Counterpoints format. Each author states his or her case and is then critiqued by the other contributors. The fair-minded, interactive Counterpoints forum allows you to compare and contrast the two different positions and form your own opinion concerning the practical and often deeply personal subject of women in ministry. The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.
This handbook contains famous operas from fourteen Italian, French, and German composers. The text is designed to help listeners understand and appreciate the special skills required to sing famous operatic songs. The songs are introduced in their dramatic settings along with the vocal requirements for the most demanding passages. There are interactive literary and rhyming exercises to help the reader become more engaged and knowledgeable. The foreign language passages are translated into English and key words are highlighted in each language. Operatic vocabulary is defined to help the listener better understand the technical demands for a highly trained voice. The appendices provide useful information on singers, recordings and useful references.
Traditional legal borders are increasingly contested in the present day. This book explores the nature, implications, and future of legal 'borders' - geographic and intellectual - in the twenty-first century's dramatically changing global context.
A new analysis of human nature and behavior in biblical perspective by two evangelical experts. This comprehensive textbook discusses four key aspects of the human person by exploring the relationship between origin and destiny, substance and identity, function and behavior, and relationships and community. The authors argue that an integrated approach of theology and psychology not only enhances our understanding of what it means to be human, but is also key to that understanding.
A detailed look at the technical pattern simply referred to today as the Gartley Pattern Gartley patterns are based on the work of H.M. Gartley, a prominent technical analyst best known for a particular retracement pattern that bears his name. In recent years, Gartley patterns-which reflect the underlying psychology of fear and greed in the markets-have received renewed interest. This definitive guide skillfully explains how to utilize the proven methods of H.M. Gartley to capture consistent profits in the financial markets. Page by page, you'll become familiar with Gartley's original work, how his patterns can be adapted to today's fast moving markets, and what it takes to make them work for you.Examines how to identify and profit from the most powerful formation in the financial marketsDiscusses the similarities, differences and the superiority of the Gartley Pattern compared to classical chart patterns including Elliott WaveShows how to apply filters to Gartley patterns to improve the probability of your trading opportunities, as well as specific rules where to enter and exit positions Gartley's pattern is based on a unique market position where most traders refuse to participate due to fear. This book reveals how you can overcome this fear, and how to profit from the most consistent and reliable pattern in the financial markets.
