The algebraic techniques developed by Kakde will almost certainly lead eventually to major progress in the study of congruences between automorphic forms and the main conjectures of non-commutative Iwasawa theory for many motives. Non-commutative Iwasawa theory has emerged dramatically over the last decade, culminating in the recent proof of the non-commutative main conjecture for the Tate motive over a totally real p-adic Lie extension of a number field, independently by Ritter and Weiss on the one hand, and Kakde on the other. The initial ideas for giving a precise formulation of the non-commutative main conjecture were discovered by Venjakob, and were then systematically developed in the subsequent papers by Coates-Fukaya-Kato-Sujatha-Venjakob and Fukaya-Kato. There was also parallel related work in this direction by Burns and Flach on the equivariant Tamagawa number conjecture. Subsequently, Kato discovered an important idea for studying the K_1 groups of non-abelian Iwasawa algebras in terms of the K_1 groups of the abelian quotients of these Iwasawa algebras. Kakde's proof is a beautiful development of these ideas of Kato, combined with an idea of Burns, and essentially reduces the study of the non-abelian main conjectures to abelian ones. The approach of Ritter and Weiss is more classical, and partly inspired by techniques of Frohlich and Taylor. Since many of the ideas in this book should eventually be applicable to other motives, one of its major aims is to provide a self-contained exposition of some of the main general themes underlying these developments. The present volume will be a valuable resource for researchers working in both Iwasawa theory and the theory of automorphic forms.
Written by two leading workers in the field, this brief but elegant book presents in full detail the simplest proof of the "main conjecture" for cyclotomic fields. Its motivation stems not only from the inherent beauty of the subject, but also from the wider arithmetic interest of these questions. From the reviews: "The text is written in a clear and attractive style, with enough explanation helping the reader orientate in the midst of technical details." --ZENTRALBLATT MATH
We dedicate this volume to Professor Parimala on the occasion of her 60th birthday. It contains a variety of papers related to the themes of her research. Parimala's rst striking result was a counterexample to a quadratic analogue of Serre's conjecture (Bulletin of the American Mathematical Society, 1976). Her in uence has cont- ued through her tenure at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai (1976-2006),and now her time at Emory University in Atlanta (2005-present). A conference was held from 30 December 2008 to 4 January 2009, at the U- versity of Hyderabad, India, to celebrate Parimala's 60th birthday (see the conf- ence's Web site at http://mathstat.uohyd.ernet.in/conf/quadforms2008). The or- nizing committee consisted of J.-L. Colliot-Thel ' en ' e, Skip Garibaldi, R. Sujatha, and V. Suresh. The present volume is an outcome of this event. We would like to thank all the participants of the conference, the authors who have contributed to this volume, and the referees who carefully examined the s- mitted papers. We would also like to thank Springer-Verlag for readily accepting to publish the volume. In addition, the other three editors of the volume would like to place on record their deep appreciation of Skip Garibaldi's untiring efforts toward the nal publication.

Change can take place in various forms, gradual or abrupt, incremental or transformational. It is a requirement in modern day society that everyone, whether at individual or organisational level, understands the softer nuances of this concept and prepares for it. During scenarios of change interventions, the role of human resources (HR) becomes highly crucial, even as the perception towards it becomes ambivalent. This volume delivers a holistic view on the role of HR in organisational change. It is built on the various theoretical models of change and provides a dramatic sequence of issues in change management to gain a big picture thinking for HR managers and weaves through why, how and what perspectives to change management. Human Resources Management for Organisational Change offers a comprehensive coverage of the changing role of HR as it relates to organisational change theories and models, strategy, changing business environment and implications, organisational culture, leadership, resistance management, and high performance work practices (HPWP) to support change management and cost of no-changers. It is unique in that it covers the entire gamut of organisational change as well as HR. It will be of value to researchers, academics, professionals, and students interested in learning more about how organisational change can improve productivity and human satisfaction as well as the systematic approach to managing organisational change.

With the increased pace of global, economic and technological development, change has become an inevitable feature of any organisation to survive in the competitive market. If it is a planned change process, the HR practitioner can use any of the existing general models or theories of change and use suggestive interventions to increase effectiveness and capability to change itself. When the magnitude of change is unpredictable or the degree of the organisational process or systems is unorganised, the existing models or practice of planned change is still in the formative stage, and there is room for continuous refinement and improvement. This book will bridge this gap in the current organisational development and change literature by benefiting the HR practitioner with six real case studies. The cases bring out the interventions adopted, key activities associated with the successful implementation of interventions and the critical role played by HR in achieving organisational effectiveness. This book captures the transformational journey of a diverse set of companies and weaves various dimensions into a common coherent framework for the field of HRM in Change Management. The case studies illustrate six powerful organisational experiences, listing the major activities contributing to effective change management from motivating change, vision, support from key stakeholders, transition management to organisational and HR commitment for implementation. By demonstrating the role of HR as a 'change agent,' this volume will be valuable to researchers, academics, managers and students in the fields of human resource management and change management.
There are still many arithmetic mysteries surrounding the values of the Riemann zeta function at the odd positive integers greater than one. For example, the matter of their irrationality, let alone transcendence, remains largely unknown. However, by extending ideas of Garland, Borel proved that these values are related to the higher K-theory of the ring of integers. Shortly afterwards, Bloch and Kato proposed a Tamagawa number-type conjecture for these values, and showed that it would follow from a result in motivic cohomology which was unknown at the time. This vital result from motivic cohomology was subsequently proven by Huber, Kings, and Wildeshaus. Bringing together key results from K-theory, motivic cohomology, and Iwasawa theory, this book is the first to give a complete proof, accessible to graduate students, of the Bloch-Kato conjecture for odd positive integers. It includes a new account of the results from motivic cohomology by Huber and Kings.

The doctoral students of the economist and teacher Venkatesh B. Athreya organized a seminar in his honor in January 2016. This book is a collection of the papers presented at that seminar and a few invited contributions. The book is a collection of papers on the theme of agriculture and rural India with special emphasis, as the title suggests, on the experience of economic reforms since the 1990s. One set of papers gives the macro-perspective, while another set gives an insight into agrarian and rural transformation through case studies. The paper by Utsa Patnaik brings a historical perspective to the subject.
