This publication was inspired by the desire to commemorate the 25th
Anniversary of the founding of the Section on Business Law of the
International Bar Association. Practising lawyers from all over the
world have contributed to this book with their knowledge and
expertise. The issues involved in the economic development process
have been pursued with a practical approach. Bearing in mind that
the legal system of each country is unique, that many countries are
currently undergoing major programmes of legal reform, and that
most development issues are country-specific, this study does not
make any claim to comprehensiveness or coherency of treatment. It
should serve as a source of practical information for a wide range
of people interested in the legal aspects of development and
investment issues, including the special issues associated with the
use of foreign capital.
The Common Core State Standards require students to do more with
knowledge and language than ever before. Rather than be mere
consumers of knowledge, students must now become creators, critics,
and communicators of ideas across disciplines. Yet in order to take
on these new and exciting roles, many students need daily teaching
with an extra emphasis on accelerating their academic communication
skills."Common Core Standards in Diverse Classrooms" describes
seven research-based teaching practices for developing complex
language and literacy skills across grade levels and disciplines:
using complex texts, fortifying complex output, fostering academic
interaction, clarifying complex language, modeling, guiding, and
designing instruction. Most important, you will find clear
descriptions and examples of how these essential practices can--and
should--be woven together in real lessons. You will also find the
following: Classroom activities based on the practices Dozens of
classroom examples from lessons in different grade levels and
disciplinesDetailed lessons with annotations focused on language
and literacy developmentStrategies and tools for building
system-wide capacity for sustained growth in the practices "Common
Core Standards in Diverse Classrooms" is a concise guide for
helping us improve our practices to strengthen two vital pillars
that support student learning: academic language and disciplinary
literacy.
Productivity has become a national priority. Its effects are
being felt on all levels--national, industrial, and individual. An
organization must be able to measure productivity before
effectively improving it. This volume is the first practical guide
for developing productivity measurement systems. It describes the
use of the Productivity Measurement and Enhancement System (ProMES)
designed by its author and his colleagues. An important tool for
organizations, this step by step guide discusses how to measure
productivity and then how to use this measurement.
Robert Pritchard's guide first presents a detailed description
of the development and uses of ProMES. The background and
description of ProMES is followed by details on how to develop
ProMES in any organization. Questions and answers about using the
system are discussed together with further issues on how to
implement the system. The use of the system with other productivity
improvement techniques is also covered. The volume concludes with a
discussion on evaluating the effects of a productivity improvement
system. It is a valuable practical source for industrial and
organizational psychologists, management consultants, classes, and
workshops.
This slim motivation guidebook was written to bridge the gap
between the academic research on motivation and to present it in a
form that is useful to the practicing manager. In essence, the book
presents a theory of motivation and how to use it without ever
mentioning the word theory. The goal of the book is to give
managers a kind of mental model to use in thinking about motivation
and to show them how to use this mental model for practical
management actions to diagnose and improve motivation of
subordinates. The book is written in three sections: Understanding
Motivation, Diagnosing Motivation and Improving Motivation. The
book incorporates case studies and many examples of how to
successfully manage motivation.
Improving organizational productivity is an important current and
future issue. The improvement can be effected by changing
technology, or by changing the way in which people work. The
concern of this work is how to structure work so that people can
and will want to maximize their productivity using a special
approach to measurement and improvement of organizational
productivity defined by the author - ProMES (Productivity
Measurement and Enchancement System). ProMES is a way of motivating
people to maximize their productivity. This book describes a series
of cases where ProMES was applied to improve productivity in
service and manufacturing organizations in a variety of different
organizations in different countries. Results indicate very large
increases in productivity, much larger than those typically found.
Lessons learned from these cases for future productivity
improvement efforts are summarized.
