Design and Technology involves children learning through processes
that include identifying needs and opportunities, generating and
developing ideas, planning, making and evaluating. The second
edition fully reflects the latest revisions in the National
Curriculum and links with other curricular changes in the
intervening years. Specific links are made to the National
Strategies for Literacy, Numeracy and ICT; to the National
Standards for Subject Leaders; to Science and the other foundation
subjects; to the QCA Scheme of Work for D & T; and to new
initiatives in citizenship and creativity.
This is a challenging new book for primary teachers interested in
developing their teaching of Design & Technology, subject
leaders in D&T, and for student teachers choosing this as their
specialty. It will also appeal to in-service providers and LEA
advisory staff. Children's creativity, cultural development and
citizenship are important but currently underdeveloped in primary
education. This book uniquely focuses on how these aspects can be
emphasized in the teaching of Design and Technology. The National
Curriculum has the potential to bring creativity, cultural
development and citizenship into the mainstream and the authors
show the considerable extent to which D & T, integrated with
other curriculum subjects, can contribute to realizing these goals.
There are examples throughout of best current practice showing how
such ideas have been implemented.

Combining workable classroom practice with understanding of the
ways children learn, this text offers a guide to the teaching of
science. The approach is learning-centred, holistic and rational,
and the book offers reassurance and realistic advice for those
teachers who did not specialise in science, and who may be worried
about their lack of experience in Science National Curriculum
territory. This second edition reflects the different context of
science education and the needs of teachers in the 90s. The
post-Dearing National Curriculum, assessment, planning and
professional development are also covered.

Ephesians Who is God and what is He doing? The Spirit led Christian
challenge "Be diligent (an ever present command) to present
yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be
ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth." (2 Timothy 2:15)
"For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the
word of righteousness, for they are babes. But solid food is for
the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to
discern good and evil." (Hebrews 5:13-14) "For all scripture is
inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, for training in righteousness, that the children of God
may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Timothy 3:15-17)
The Christian's Questions How in the world can I prepare myself to
accurately handle the Word of God? How can I learn to train my
senses? How can I experience the joy of understanding the Word of
God? How can I be equipped for every good work God puts in front of
me? What Bible should I use, what is the Bible dictionary? There
are so many great questions to be answered. Our Proposed Solution
Using the Inductive Bible Study Method and the principles of
Observation (what do I see?), Interpretation (what did it mean in
its immediate cultural context?), and Application (How can I apply
God's truth to my 21st century life style?) will guide you into the
study of God's word. A Christian student who is depending on the
indwelling Holy Spirit can soon become, with practice, and
independent "miner" of God's biblical gold truth. However, it is
important to be aware of two errors that can trip up a student of
the Word of God: either they will take everything second hand from
others or they will refuse to take any others view of certain
doctrinal truths. We must remember that we are members of the Body
of Christ, tied together under the headship of Jesus Christ. So our
Lord has given us a system of checks and balances that will enable
us to check our gold with those of other students and teachers. In
this way we will learn the differences between God's gold and
"fools gold" (See Acts 17: 10-11 and 1 Corinthians 14: 29). Ron R.
Ritchie (1933- ) was born and raised in Philadelphia and Bucks
County, Pennsylvania. He joined the Air Force in 1953 during the
Korean War and served one year in Waco, Texas before he was shipped
to Rabat, Morocco in North Africa, where he served for the next
three and one-half years. During this time in Rabat, Ron met and
married a lovely French woman named Anne Marie Saunier (July 1956).
Upon his honorable discharge in August 1957, the couple returned to
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he pursued his undergraduate
degree in education, and then in 1966 went on finish his Th.M.
degree at Dallas Theological Seminary in Dallas, Texas. Ron was
called to begin full-time ministry at Walnut Creek Presbyterian
Church in Walnut Creek, California. In 1969, he was called to join
the staff at Peninsula Bible Church in Palo Alto, California, where
he served for some 27 years with his spiritual gifts as a
pastor/teacher, evangelist and visionary, and eventually in the
role as an elder. In 1997, the Lord called him to join the staff of
Fellowship Bible Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado as a pastor
and elder. And then, in 2000 the Lord (in concert with a group of
godly men and women) encouraged Ron to begin a non-profit
organization called Free at Last. This ministry is designed to
enable him to use his spiritual gifts of teaching, evangelism and
vision within local churches, as well as to continue both his
national and international conference ministry. Free At Last JSU,

Discipleship AS DEFINED BY JESUS CHRIST Disciple - mathetes, lit.,
"a learner accomplished by endeavor, a pupil, and adherent...an
imitator of their teacher." (See John 8:31, ) W.E. Vine, Vine's
Expository In the beginning of the ministry of Jesus, we find that
He ..".was going along by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and
Andrew, the brother of Simon, casting a net in the sea; for they
were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, 'follow me, and I will make
you become fishers of men.' Immediately they left their nets and
followed Him. Going on a little further, He saw James the son of
Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending
their nets. Immediately He called them; and they left their father
Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to
follow Him." (Mark 1:16-20, NASB) At the end of His ministry, Jesus
met again with His disciples in the Upper Room and reminded them
that He had come to this earth to die on a Roman cross for the sin
of fallen humanity, saying to them: ..".after I have been raised, I
will go ahead of you to Galilee" (Matthew 26:32). After His
resurrection, ..".the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the
mountain which Jesus had designated. When they saw Him, they
worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke
to them, saying, 'All authority has been given to me in heaven and
on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo,
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.'" (Matthew
28:15-20, NASB) However, during the course of His ministry, which
took place over a period of three years, Jesus was led by His
Heavenly Father (Luke 6:12) to not only choose twelve men to follow
Him, but to use that time to disciple them. He did so in such a
way, to the glory of His Father, that they would be equipped to do
the same kind of ministry He had done in the power of the Holy
Spirit. He would not spend His time doing all the fishing for men
and women by Himself: rather He would equip them to fish for men
and women so that once He left this earth the members of the new
church, the Body of Christ, would continue to grow around the world
through disciples who were faithful to, in turn, disciple new
believers in every generation until He comes again. Dr. Luke, who
became a disciple of Jesus Christ under the ministry of the apostle
Paul (see Acts 15:11, 51 A.D.), recorded for us in his gospel how
his Master defined what He meant when He called men and women to
become His disciples. The four messages on discipleship which are
included in this handbook are actually part of the much larger
series on the gospel according to Luke. (Available at

This book makes a unique contribution to current thinking by making
a link between two current key policy drivers in education:
personalized learning and distributed leadership. Ron Ritchie and
Ruth Deakin Crick put forward the idea that an effective means of
implementing personalizing learning is to adopt distributed
approaches to school leadership. The book builds on the other
titles in the "NCE Personalizing Learning" series, particularly
"Personalizing Learning: Transforming Education for Every Child" by
John West-Burnham and Max Coates. Personalizing learning remains a
contested concept, interpreted in many different ways by policy
makers, researchers and practitioners. However, it is generally
agreed to be desirable if, as a result of its implementation,
students' individual learning needs are more effectively addressed
and it impacts positively on their learning.
