Collective Unravelings of the Hegemonic Web represents the
culmination of work that emerged from 2013 Curriculum &
Pedagogy annual conference. The notion of the hegemonic web is the
defining theme of the volume. In this collection, authors struggle
to unravel and take apart pieces of the complex web that are so
deeply embedded into normative ways of thinking, being and making
meaning. They also grapple with understanding the role that
hegemony plays and the influence that it has on identity,
curriculum, teaching and learning. Finally, scholars included in
this volume describe their efforts to engage and undergo
counter-hegemonic movements by sharing their stories and struggles.
Small-and medium-sized manufacturing firms are commonly
acknowledged to be the driving force in economic development.
Oftentimes, the most crucial decision affecting their future growth
is whether to expand into foreign markets, a decision that is
inextricably linked to the method of market entry. "Managing Export
Entry and Expansion" brings together prominent researchers
representing ten countries to examine the most important issues
related to how and why firms expand overseas. Presenting empirical
studies conducted in the 1980's a time of sharp change in
international trade, the contributors describe exporting as it is
practiced by companies at different stages of development in
different industries, and to and from different countries. In
addition, the strategies discussed for achieving the best exporting
results can be implemented by firms and by those responsible for
stimulating exports, such as government and trade associations.

international developments to provide a full analysis of the
era.
The concept of fragmentation is explored in this book as it applies
to arid, pastoral systems throughout the world. Global significance
of the world's vast rangelands is large. Arid and semiarid
rangelands make up almost 25% of the earth's landscapes and support
more than 20 million people whose livelihoods depend on these
lands. It is the home of the planet's last remaining megafauna and
many other important species. The case is developed that
fragmentation arises from different natural, social and economic
conditions worldwide but creates similar outcomes for human and
natural systems. With information from nine sites around the world
the authors examine how fragmentation occurs, the patterns that
result, and the consequences of fragmentation for ecosystems and
the people who depend on them for their livelihoods.

The very word statistics' is enough to induce panic or cynicism in
most people's hearts. The necessity of studying statistics is often
regarded by students as a test of endurance rather than an
educational opportunity. Working With Statistics is aimed to show
such an audience that studying statistics can be both involving and
even pleasurable.
By minimising specialist terminology and by utilising an authentic
set of research data, the book provides a readable introduction
into the uses of quantitative methods in social research. It also
provides an argument for the value of such methods and aims to
provide students with a working knowledge of computing, relating
this directly to the demands of statistical analysis.
The book offers a lucid and comprehensive guide to statistics
methods, and is suitable as an overall text for courses in the
subject.
Originally published in 1913 and initially delivered as lectures in
the University of London, this book provides a survey of the Roman
Empire as a 'vast federation of commonwealths', rather than large
provinces divided by language or nationality. Reid reasserts the
importance of municipalities as institutions that were fundamental
to the structure of the entire imperial government, and examines
how the municipal organizational scheme was deployed in various
territories of the Empire over time. The evidence for the impact of
this system is drawn from archaeological, artistic, and historical
sources. Wide-ranging in its scope, this book will be of value to
anyone with an interest in the practical management of the Roman
Empire.
With detailed data from nine sites around the world, the authors
examine how the so-called 'fragmentation' of these fragile
landscapes occurs and the consequences of this break-up for
ecosystems and the people who depend on them. 'Rangelands' make up
a quarter of the world's landscape, and here, the case is developed
that while fragmentation arises from different natural, social and
economic conditions worldwide, it creates similar outcomes for
human and natural systems.
