Pook Press celebrates the great Golden Age of Illustration in
children's literature. Many of the earliest children's books,
particularly those dating back to the 1850s and before, are now
extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. Pook Press are working
to republish these classic works in affordable, high quality,
colour editions, using the original text and artwork so these works
can delight another generation of children. Arthur Rackham
(1867-1939) was one of the premier illustrators of the early 20th
Century. He illustrated many books, the first of which was
published in 1893. Throughout his career he had developed a very
individual style that is was to influence a whole generation of
children, artists and other illustrators. His haunting humour and
dreamlike romance adds to the enchantment and fantasy of children's
literature.
All humans share three origins: the beginning of our individual
lives, the appearance of life on Earth, and the formation of our
planetary home. Life through Time and Space brings together the
latest discoveries in both biology and astronomy to examine our
deepest questions about where we came from, where we are going, and
whether we are alone in the cosmos. A distinctive voice in the
growing field of astrobiology, Wallace Arthur combines
embryological, evolutionary, and cosmological perspectives to tell
the story of life on Earth and its potential to exist elsewhere in
the universe. He guides us on a journey through the myriad events
that started with the big bang and led to the universe we inhabit
today. Along the way, readers learn about the evolution of life
from a primordial soup of organic molecules to complex plants and
animals, about Earth's geological transformation from barren rock
to diverse ecosystems, and about human development from embryo to
infant to adult. Arthur looks closely at the history of mass
extinctions and the prospects for humanity's future on our precious
planet. Do intelligent aliens exist on a distant planet in the
Milky Way, sharing the three origins that characterize all life on
Earth? In addressing this question, Life through Time and Space
tackles the many riddles of our place and fate in the universe that
have intrigued human beings since they first gazed in wonder at the
nighttime sky.
What do we know about animal evolution in the early twenty-first
century? How much more do we know today than Darwin did? What are
the most exciting discoveries that have been made in the last few
decades? Covering all the main animal groups, from jellyfish to
mammals, this book considers all of these questions and more. Its
30 short chapters, each written in a conversational, nontechnical
style and accompanied by numerous original illustrations, deal
equally with the pattern and the process of evolution - with both
evolutionary trees and evolutionary mechanisms. They cover diverse
evolutionary themes, including: the animal toolkit, natural
selection, embryos and larvae, animal consciousness, fossils, human
evolution, and even the possibility of animal life existing
elsewhere than on Earth. This unique text will make an excellent
introduction for undergraduates and others with an interest in the
subject.

The purpose of this book is to tell a story about how my family's
lives have been affected by Alzheimer's. Some may ask why I would
want to do this. Why would I want to go back and relive what may be
better to forget, or try to forget? Also, many have lived through,
and may still be in similar life situations. Most have remained
silent. Why should I consider public exposure of such personal
experiences? And would my wife want me to tell you about some of
the things she may have said or done as her mental capability
slipped away? To answer the first question, to those to whom this
story may be all too familiar, maybe you will find some mental and
emotional release from reading my words. You've been there and done
that - or close to it anyway. To those who have not had a similar
experience, chances are that you may know someone who has had or is
having a similar experience. And, as the population increases, you
may sometime be living through this kind of loss yourself. I hope
you will find these writings helpful. Would my wife approve? She
has never seemed to be actually aware of what was happening to her.
But both her sisters-in-law had Alzheimer's, so she saw the effect
on her brothers. I'm sure she would want me to write about our
experience if it would help others through this long farewell.
Are you hopeful for a life filled with wonder, love and happiness?
Or do you seem to be out of step with life? This book is another
way to look at life and perhaps the thoughts contained herein will
be of some benefit to you. If you are open to new ideas and/or new
positive feelings, then you might enjoy this journey and discover
what Life has to offer you You may find some intriguing thoughts to
ponder on these topics: Life, Love, Spirituality, Beliefs, Peace,
Health, Inner Power, Gratitude, and more. Life is meant to be
enjoyed.
A Unitive Spirituality explains an all inclusive way to the
realization of peace, joy, and love. Many people today have their
own idea of what is true, to the exclusion of any other possible
thoughts. If we look at the common threads which link us all
together, instead of the differences, we create a unitive approach
to life which can be a revelation for you. This is another way to
look at life, not The Way. When we consider other possibilities for
the way things are, we open our minds and we may see with a greater
clarity than before.
