Distributed robotics is a rapidly growing, interdisciplinary research area lying at the intersection of computer science, communication and control systems, and electrical and mechanical engineering. The goal of the Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems (DARS) is to exchange and stimulate research ideas to realize advanced distributed robotic systems. This volume of proceedings includes 43 original contributions presented at the Tenth International Symposium on Distributed Autonomous Robotic Systems (DARS 2010), which was held in November 2010 at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland. The selected papers in this volume are authored by leading researchers from Asia, Europa, and the Americas, thereby providing a broad coverage and perspective of the state-of-the-art technologies, algorithms, system architectures, and applications in distributed robotic systems. The book is organized into four parts, each representing one critical and long-term research thrust in the multi-robot community: distributed sensing (Part I); localization, navigation, and formations (Part II); coordination algorithms and formal methods (Part III); modularity, distributed manipulation, and platforms (Part IV). All meat has been grass. This statement of the old Greeks is still valid and thus plants contribute to the needs of a growing world popula tion. Their other key role for human life is reflected by their photosynthetic activity. Intensive agriculture reduces the carbon diox ide content of the atmosphere. The improvements of cultivated plants towards stable yields and desired quality characteristics are the sub jects of plant breeding. Here, an introductory picture of the present state of this topic in research and application is given. The senior author, H. Kuckuck, wrote the first edition in 1939 as a small German booklet, hence the nickname little cuckoo (Kuckuck = Engl. cuckoo). During the last 6 years (the fifth German edition appeared in 1985) again numerous results of basic research have found practical application, making extensive additions neces sary. Further, it seemed timely to change to the international language of science: English. For help in translation we are grateful to Silke Kluth and Kathy Seaman. Since agricultural sciences - like all others - have become more specialized, we were happy to welcome D. Baringer (Sect. 5.4), W. Hondelmann (Sects. 4.4, 4.5, and 6), V. Stoy (Sect. 4.2), and T. Thtlioglu (Sects. 2.3.1.4 and 3.5) as contributors to this edition. Finally, we would like to thank Springer-Verlag for all their efforts in helping to transform a small German booklet into a book available to a wider audience."
The United States, Germany, and Japan constitute the three most significant patent systems, but there is considerable variation in procedure and jurisprudence between them. A comparison of these systems for patent enforcement can illuminate historical pathways and contemporary conduits to address contemporary challenges and encourage the adoption of new legal ideas. This book provides a comprehensive guide to the extent of patent protection, validity challenges, enforcement procedures, and infringement remedies in these three major jurisdictions. By examining the major provisions of patent statutes and court decisions in these markets, it explores fundamental patent theories and principles, evaluates current systems, and proposes best practice for patent enforcement in developed, emerging, and frontier markets. Comparative analysis and historical jurisprudence of the three core paradigms in patent enforcement will to help readers to develop a more nuanced understanding of current systems and how a legal innovation in one jurisdiction is adopted in others. Authored by a team of academics and experienced patent practitioners, it provides invaluable first-hand experience and insightful discussion of patent jurisprudence that will be of great interest to academics, policy-makers and practitioners alike.

"Groups and Geometry" contains the Oxford Mathematical Institute notes for undergraduates and first-year postgraduates. The content, although guided by the Oxford syllabus, covers other material, some introductory and some that, because of limited time, had to be excluded from or curtailed in the syllabus. This book is about the measurement of symmetry, which is what groups are for. Symmetry is visable in all parts of mathematics and in many other areas, and geometrical symmetry is the most visable of all. For this reason, groups and geometry are close neighbours. The first half of the book (chapters 1-9) covers groups and the second half (chapters 10-18) covers geometry, with the symbiotic relationship between the two more than justifying the union. Both parts contain a number of exercises that should be helpful to the reader wishing to gain a fuller understanding of this area of mathematics.

This is the fascinating story of Captain William Duncan, who was born 07/20/1840 in Scotland, near Edinburgh. He came to North America by way of Canada, then settled in Elgin, Illinois. In 1860 he graduated from Elgin Academy and shortly thereafter enlisted to serve in the Thirty Sixth Illinois Infantry of the Union Army. During the war he distinguished himself for valor on many occasions, most notably while serving under General O.O. Howard during Sherman's March to the Sea. When the Union Army reached Savannah, Georgia they found themselves cut -off from their supplies. When ordered by Sherman to locate the supply ships, Howard dispatched Captain Duncan and two others to contact the Union fleet. The journey took three days and at one point Captain Duncan floated by an armed blockade in a hollowed log. Captain Duncan located a Union gunboat that carried him to Hilton Head Island. Supply ships were sent to Savannah, Georgia and Duncan continued on to Washington to deliver news of the successful "March to the Sea" to Secretary of War, Edwin M. Stanton. After the war, Duncan returned to Elgin, Illinois to marry Lucy Harwood before moving to the Dakota Territory where his brothers had already settled. In 1876, he was elected to the legislature of the Dakota Territory and re-elected once again in 1884. Duncan and his wife, Lucy, passed away on the same day, February 4th, 1925. This book has a fascinating story to tell about this "Forgotten Man" who gave so much to his country and received little recognition for his valor. This book is volume one of a series of upcoming books the author, George Stoy plans to write in the near future about other "Forgotten Men"
