Boethius is largely underrated in the history of Western thought. Scholarship often regarded him and his era - Late Antiquity -as mere intermediaries between Antiquity and the Middle Ages. This volume shows that Boethius and his time can be appreciated in their own right.

First published in 1999, this volume contains a translation of the Devienne flute method along with a facsimile of the original French text. Introduced, annotated and translated by Jane Bowers with commentary by Thomas Boehm, the treatise republished here appeared during the French revolution and was authored by an established composer, performer and teacher of chamber music, symphonies, concert symphonies and operas in Paris, as well as a distinguished performer of both the bassoon and the flute.

Thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Innovative Internet Community Systems, IICS 2005, held in Paris, France, in June 2005. The 17 revised full papers presented have been carefully reviewed and selected from 27 submissions. They mainly address system-oriented problems, content and text processing, and theoretical foundations of quality-of-service problems of Internet protocols, aspects of cooperation and collaboration in Internet systems, as well as agent and text-processing-based methods.

After two more workshops, in Kuhlung ] sborn and Leipzig, this year was the ?rst time that the workshop was held abroad (Guadalajara, Mexico). Due to a broader international environment, the wo- shop this year was organized by the IEEE in cooperation with the Universidad de Guadalajara. Thepapersfromtheconferenceweremainlyfocusedonthreeaspects: syst- orientedproblems, textprocessing, andtheoreticalfoundationofdistributedand Internet systems. The organizers tried to cover the main issues appearing today with the steady growth of the Internet and the Internet communities. Con- quently, the speed and quality-of-service problems of today's Internet protocols, aspects of cooperation and collaboration in Internet systems, as well as age- and textprocessing-based methods used to compute the large amounts of inf- mation in the Internet more or less automatically were all emphasized in most papers and discussions during the conference. Thereweretwomini-workshopsintheworkshopbecausesometopicsmay- ?uence communities and the Internet, and the other way around. Armin Mikler from the University of North Texas at Denton organized the workshop on Computational Epidemiology, considering several aspects of this brand new research area which requires fast exchanges of information from large areas. Helena Unger organized a mini-workshop on the Optimization of Urban Tra?c Systems (OUTS), showing the strong connection between social communities and technical systems, and many requirements to use distributed systems and the Net to collect and process current information in the right manner."

The papers in this volume were presented at the workshop Innovative Internet Community Systems 2003 held on June 19 21, 2003 in Leipzig. IICS 2003 was the thirdworkshopintheIICSseries.Thepurposeofthese workshopsisto bring together researchers in the area of system and information management for the Next Generation Internet (NGI). This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the second international workshop on Innovative Internet Computing Systems, IICS 2002, held in Kühlungsborn, Germany, in June 2002.The 19 revised full papers presented together with an invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected from over 30 submissions. Familien mit Migrationshintergrund liegen oft andere kulturelle Werte und Normen zugrunde und eine andere Familiensprache. Haufig haben die Eltern und zum Teil auch deren Kinder Schwierigkeiten mit der deutschen Sprache, fuhlen sich alleingelassen und haben Beruhrungsangste, auch weil sie zum Teil schlechte Erfahrungen mit anderen Institutionen gemacht haben. Aus diesem Grund ist der kontinuierliche Kontakt zwischen ErzieherIn und Eltern und das Einbeziehen der Eltern in den Kindergartenalltag gerade bei Migrantenfamilien sehr wichtig. Um in der Gesellschaft zukunftig zurechtzukommen, mussen aber auch Eltern und Kinder der Dominanzgesellschaft lernen, mit Vielfalt umzugehen. In einer Zeit, in der Multikulturalitat immer mehr Raum einnimmt, ist es wichtig, auf beiden Seiten die Angst vor dem Fremden zu nehmen. Daher ist das Einbinden aller Eltern in die Prozesse der Kindertageseinrichtung und ihre Fortbildung in Bezug auf Erziehungsfragen von hohem Stellenwert. Beispielsweise sieht Maaz einen Zusammenhang von autoritarer Erziehung und der Angst vor Fremden (latente Angst), die meist auf unbewusster Ebene ablauft. Wenn Kinder die Werte und Normen ihrer Gesellschaft nicht demokratisch verinnerlichen, erleben sie abweichende Normen und Werte anderer Kulturen als Bedrohung, da ihnen eine solche Abweichung fruher verboten wurde. Aktualitat erfahrt diese Thematik aufgrund der Tatsache, dass es heute problematisch ist, auf den gesattigten Kaufermarkten neue Kunden zu gewinnen. Stattdessen konzentrieren sich die Unternehmen immer starker auf ihre schon vorhandenen Kunden, um sie an das Unternehmen zu binden. Auch in Deutschland nimmt das Thema immer breiteren Raum ein - in Theorie und Praxis. Auffallend ist, dass sich die wissenschaftliche Literatur dabei nicht so sehr komplexen, prozessorientierten, personalintensiven und buisness-to-buisness bezogenen Produkten (z.B. Investitionsguter) und Dienstleistungen (z.B. Beratung) widmet, sondern sich endverbraucherbezogenen Branchen wie der Automobilindustrie, Privatbanken oder Hoteldienstleistungen zuwendet. Gerade da, wo Qualitat und Kundenzufriedenheit aufgrund der engeren Kundenbeziehungen besonders wichtig sind, bleibt in der Theorie ein weisser Fleck. Teilweise wird schon die Hoteldienstleistung als komplexe Dienstleistung dargestellt. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, einen Beitrag zur Erschliessung dieses weissen Flecks zu leisten.
