Johann Fausten, Lessings Fragmente, Goethes "Faust I," Heines Tanzpoem, Thomas Manns "Doktor Faustus")., Abstract: Kaum eine andere Gestalt der Weltliteratur erfreut sich eines solchen Bekanntheitsgrades, wie der Teufelsbundner, was nicht zuletzt auf die Popularitat der GOETHEschen Faust-Dichtung zuruckzufuhren ist. Dabei ist die Nationalbibel" der Deutschen nicht der einzige erwahnenswerte Faust. Der Stoff kann auf eine lange literarhistorische Tradition zuruckblicken, beginnt doch die Legendenbildung bereits irgendwo an der Schwelle zwischen Mittelalter und Neuzeit. Es ist also nicht verwunderlich, dass auch das Interesse der Forschung an der Faust-Literatur entsprechend gross ist, mehr als 10.000 Publikationen verzeichnen die Bibliografien allein zu GOETHEs Werk. Das Hauptaugenmerk der Wissenschaft galt aber bislang vor allem dem Schwarzkunstler oder dem Sinnbild des strebenden, sich hoher entwickelnden Menschen, eben Dr. Faust. Der Entwicklung von Fausts Bundnispartner hingegen wird vergleichsweise wenig Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt. Zwar konzentriert sich die Sekundarliteratur auf die divergierenden Teufelsgestalten in einzelnen Werken, aber es gibt nur eine bekannte Darstellung, die systematisch die Fortentwicklung des Teufels von seinen literarischen Ursprungen diachron bis in unsere Zeit verfolgt: Gunther MAHALs Mephistos Metamorphosen von 1982. Deshalb widmet sich die vorliegende Arbeit dem eindrucksvollen Literaturpaar Faust-Teufel, wobei jedoch schwerpunktmassig die Figur des Teufels in ihren variierenden Erscheinungsformen untersucht werden soll. An den nachfolgenden funf exemplarisch ausgewahlt
