This book describes the processes of radio propagation and analyzes the equations that enable estimation of media. It explores propagation processes and related phenomena including absorption, refraction, reflection, and scattering. It also analyzes how knowledge of radiowave properties allows accurate estimations of media via inverse problems. The text examines the empirical methods that interpret remote sensing data, and how they are applied in the creation of useful approximation models. The authors also describe the operational principles of microwave devices used in remote sensing, and provide insight into the stabilizing a priori information that greatly increases the accuracy of remote sensing solutions.

Roman Beck presents a new goods classification model to explore the dissemination of IT and e-business standards and designs two applications that support and improve firms' electronic interlaced communication by means of automation and standardization effects. He then examines how network effects drive the diffusion of communication standards and develops a model which is implemented as a simulation to show the dynamic interplay between direct and indirect network effects during the diffusion process. It also addresses critical mass and life cycle issues, as well as related utility changes in communication standards.

In weiteren Kurzbeitragen wurde Uber abgeschlossene und laufende Arbeiten des Institutes fUr Umformtechnik der Uni- versitat Stuttgart berichtet. AIle Vortrage sind in der Originalsprache, d. h. entweder in Deutsch oder in Englisch abgedruckt. Die Veranstaltung wandte sich an das Fachmanagement und an Ingenieure in Forschung und Entwicklung, Konstruktion und Ar- beitsvorbereitung in Unternehmen, die sich mit der Umform- technik befassen sowie an Mitarbeiter von Hochschulinstituten und Mitglieder technisch-wissenschaftlicher Vereinigungen. The papers read at the symposium covered the topics theory of plasticity, tribology, materials, technology of metal forming, computer aided process simulation as well as CAD/CAM for tools and machine tools. In addition findings of completed or cur- rent investigations carried out at the Institut fUr Umform- technik der Universitat Stuttgart were presented. All papers are printed in their original language only, either English or German.

Daniel Beimborn develops a formal model in order to explore cooperative sourcing activities in the banking industry. Together with survey data from the German banking industry, the model is used in simulation studies which allow for compound analyses of causes and effects of cooperative sourcing.
