Akira Kurosawa’s final masterpiece, Ran (released in 1985) is a reworking of Shakespeare’s King Lear, set in feudal Japan.

Ran tells the story of Hidetora Ichimonji (Tatsya Nakadai) an aging warlord who, after spending his life consolidating his empire, decides to abdicate and divide his Kingdom amoungst his three sons Taro (Akira Terao), Jiro (Jinpachi Nezu) and Saburo (Daisuke Ryu).

When Saburo voices concerns about the wisdom of his father’s plan, claiming that treachery within the family will be inevitable, Hidetora mistakes these comments for a threat and when his servant Tango comes to Saburo's defense, he banishes both of them. This allows Taro and Jiro to take the reigns of power unopposed, leading to a brutal and bloody struggle for the absolute power of the warlord.

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Thor

Thor 4: Love & Thunder

Joe hires a local pickpocket named Kong (Shahkrit Yamnarm) as a go-between, with the intention of killing him once the assignment is over. However, after Kong provides Joe with valuable information about one of his targets, Joe decides to train the young man instead. As Joe's Bangkok assignment becomes more and more dangerous, he becomes involved in a relationship with a local deaf-mute girl.

Former 'Monty Python' animator Terry Gilliam directs this epic fantasy adventure. In the seventeenth century, a theatrical troupe are acting out the legendary adventures of mythical hero Baron Munchausen for the visiting Minister of War (Jonathan Pryce) when their performance is interrupted by an eccentric old man (John Neville) who claims to be the Baron himself. Before long, some men are revealed as cowards, while others exhibit a surprising show of strength, all the while hoping that the wreckage of the original plane can be salvaged.

Two mismatched cops, one sharp-suited (Sylvester Stallone), the other a slob (Kurt Russell), are thrown together when they are framed by a big-shot gun-runner (Jack Palance). They are put in prison, duly escape, and then try to clear their names whilst trying to track down a massive haul of weapons before the weapons are shipped abroad.

There are no wars to fight. But Gunnery Sgt. Tom Highway, a dog-faced relic of past wars, still has a lot of fight in him.
