you how to exploit the strength of ink with the transparency of
watercolour to produce powerful and dynamic paintings. With over

before exploring mixed media, new surfaces and other ways to take
your line and wash work to another level. Includes advice on
choosing materials; exercises to hone your drawing and painting
skills; gives inspiration for new approaches to line and wash and,
finally, step-by-step demonstrations of ideas and projects. This
book is a visual treat and an essential guide for all artists who
want to try this exciting technique.
Ceramicists searching for new ways to fire their creations now have
a wealth of options. Authors James Watkins and Paul Wandless, along
with a group of distinguished artisans, demonstrate in detail how
to build low-cost, low-tech, yet high-quality kilns and varied
firing techniques. The plans range from an easy, affordable and
versatile Raku Kiln to a unique wood-fuelled Downdraft Stovepipe
Barrel kiln. These clever devices make it possible to produce rich
surface effects from alternative reduction firing techniques. In
addition to showing the basic procedures for using each kiln,
easy-to-follow directions for many fast-fire methods unfold in
color photographs: you'll see how to achieve terra sigillata
surfaces with direct chemical application and how to do traditional
crackle-glaze raku and smoke finishes.

Print Index: A Guide to Reproductions is designed to aid the user
in locating illustrations of prints dating from the early
eighteenth century through the mid-1970s. It contains data on and
provides access to many thousands of prints by more than twenty-one
hundred printmakers found in one hundred English-language
monographs and exhibition and collection catalogues. The Print
Index lists works alphabetically by title under the artist or
artists. The entries identify the printmaker, the title of the
work, the date, the print technique used, and the publications
(books or catalogues) in which a reproduction of the print appears.
An index references the prints by subject and title where the title
is distinctive or expressive.
