Alphabetically arranged entries cover the history of astrology from
ancient Mesopotamia to the 21st century. In addition to surveying
the Western tradition, the book explores Islamic, Indian, East
Asian, and Mesoamerican astrology. The field of astrology is
growing rapidly, as historians recognize its centrality to the
intellectual life of the past and sociologists and anthropologists
treat its importance in a number of modern cultures. Despite the
historical and cultural significance of the subject, most reference
works on astrology focus on instructional techniques and are
written by astrologers with little or no interest in the history of
the topic. This book instead offers an objective treatment of
astrology across world history from ancient Mesopotamia to the
present. The book provides alphabetically arranged entries by
expert contributors writing on such topics as horoscopes, court
astrologers, Renaissance astrology, and comets. While it considers
the Western tradition, it also treats Islamic, Indian, East Asian,
and Mesoamerican astrology. In doing so, it explores the role of
astrology in shaping science, literature, religion, art, and other
defining cultural traditions. Sidebars offer excerpts from various
historical texts, while entries provide suggestions for further
reading. Provides alphabetically arranged reference entries that
delineate the historical and cultural significance of astrology
from ancient Mesopotamia to the present Directs users to additional
sources of information via entry bibliographies Offers sidebars
offer additional facts from primary source documents Incorporates a
timeline to help readers to place astrological developments in
chronological context Features an introductory essay for a
narrative overview of the history of astrology, priming readers on
its cultural relevance

Using mythology, archetypal symbolism, and a wealth of case
histories, this study provides new material and insight into the
many facets of this major, transformative contact between the
intimate and emotional Moon and the remote, deeply enigmatic Pluto.
The story of Pluto-Moon contacts is the eternal saga of birth,
death, and rebirth: abandonment and rejection; karma,
transformation, and new life. No other planetary contact has such a
depth of trauma, compulsion, and alienation. No other aspect has
quite the same metamorphic and healing potential. Hall explains why
Pluto-Moon aspects are so important, and gives a description of the
Hades Moon through the signs. She also explores the Pluto cycle,
Pluto from incarnation to initiation, Pluto in the Houses, and
Pluto transits and the Hades Moon. She explores the emotional
issues of alienation, abandonment, rejection, and adoption, delves
into the archetype of the dark mother and shows how to trace
enmeshed family patterns. Throughout the book, Hall offers
information about flower essences and techniques that can help
people handle Hades Moon energy.
In October 2007, a new phenomenon appeared in the sky, was named
the Comet Holmes, and was being claimed and acclaimed by the Hopi
Nation as the Blue Star of their prophecy. The Blue Star is the
harbinger. Between now and somewhere in 2013-2014, when the Red
Star appears, great shifts in human consciousness will continue.
With the fulfillment of the Mayan Long Count calendar in 2012 and
the appearance of the Red Star, many are predicting that human
consciousness will rise to the next level. Although there may be
catastrophic events associated with this period, and life as we
know it will surely change, if we do the work, this will not be the
Apocalypse. In "The Astrology of 2012 and Beyond", Garrison
explores the changing sky, starting with the movement of Pluto into
Capricorn, a region it hasn't inhabited since 1733. It's
revolutionary times ahead for individuals, governments, and the
planet. Garrison draws on traditional astrology and her
understanding of the Hopi prophecies and their relationship to the
Mayan 2012 predictions, as well as the ending of the 13,000 year
masculine kundalini cycle, to offer practical advice and
information that will help us evolve through the next four years -
including what to expect and how to survive during the nearly
inevitable pole shift.
Classical acupuncture according to the philosophy of the heavenly
stems and earthly branches uses the fundamental, cyclical rhythms
of nature and life as a foundation for health and development. This
book is one of the first of its kind in the western world to offer
a practical and scholarly approach to applying this philosophy to
clinical practice. This handbook guides the practitioner into a
journey of better understanding of the self and provides the
theoretical background to be able to confidently diagnose and treat
patients. It offers invaluable insight into the use of Chinese
philosophy, psychology and pulse diagnosis.
An exciting book to help you understand yourself and your clients,
combining the symbolism of astrology with psychology. Dynamics of
the Unconscious shows readers how to understand depression, the
astrology and psychology of aggression, and alchemical symbolism
for growth.
The American Ephemeris 1950-2050 at Noon, Trans-Century Edition, is
published in response to multiple requests for a one hundred year
ephemeris covering these "most useful years." With the years 1950
through 2050, only one ephemeris needs to be at hand, especially
when traveling, for an astrologer to do quick lookups of both birth
data and future transits for most people he or she might encounter.
Since the 1976 publication of the first version of The American
Ephemeris, 1931-1980, Neil F. Michelsen's ground-breaking series of
ephemerides for astrologers have consistently set standards for
accuracy in astrology, becoming indispensible to astrologers
worldwide at every level from student to professional. The
tradition continues with the addition of this new tropical
ephemeris spanning from mid 20th century through mid 21st century,
which is published in two versions. This one is calculated for noon
UT, and the other for Midnight UT. Rique Pottenger has revised and
expanded the Michelsen programming with updated Jet Propulsion
Laboratory data and improvements in the computer generating program
that, for example, enable finding double ingresses in a single day,
plus more accurate station times. A new formula increases the
accuracy of the Galactic Center calculation. Other new features
have been added, the most obvious of which are the dwarf planets
Ceres and Eris, in response to the 2006 decisions of the
International Astronomical Union. Monthly positions have also been
added for the remaining three of the former four major asteroids in
wide use among astrologers, Pallas, Juno and Vesta, and also for
the centaur, Chiron. 978-1-934976-27-2 624 pages $29.95
