Using methods developed by ancient Astrologers, Lee Lehman works to
strengthen techniques used by Astrologers today. The task of
Classical Astrology today is twofold: to recover these techniques
and to evaluate and understand them within a modern context. She
presents both techniques and the logic behind them to radically
improve all Astrology, regardless of whether the practitioner
chooses to adopt a Classical or Neo-Classical approach. She
analyzes the charts of several famous people and events to
demonstrate the techniques and their effectiveness.

The influence of the seven Wandering Stars or Deathless Powers of
the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter & Saturn has
shaped the development of magick for many thousands of years. Their
influence can be seen permeating many of the modern Western
Esoteric Traditions, who are the inheritors of the wisdom &
knowledge passed down through the ages. From Ancient Sumeria, to
the Greeks, the Romans, the early Qabalists, the Medieval &
Renaissance Grimoire Magickians through to the Victorian Occult
Societies, the influence of the planets is clearly present in the
symbolism of their ceremonies, practices & beliefs. In this
practical sourcebook, the authors bring together old & new
techniques which they hope will inspire others to explore the
multi-faceted world of planetary magick. There are simple planetary
contemplations, hymns & meditation journeys, ideal for the
novice who wants to explore the symbolism of the planets & in
doing so learn to focus the different planetary energies.
Information is provided on the many spiritual beings associated
with the planets - The Gods & Goddesses who give their names to
the planets, the Olympic Spirits, Archangels, Orders of Angels,
Planetary Intelligences & Planetary Spirits. Essential
techniques for creating planetary sigils using the magick number
squares, calculating planetary hours, making & consecrating
amulets & talismans are given with practical examples. Drawing
from their experience & knowledge gained working in a number of
Western Esoteric Traditions, the authors also present here original
planetary techniques & ceremonies - including the Ritual of the
Heptagram, Planetary Pyramids, Planetary Magick Circles & Angle
Webs. The rich symbolism & influence of the magick of the
Wandering Stars underlies the spiritual & magickal heritage of
Western Esotericism. Through exploring & working with the
Deathless Powers, the reader can come to a greater understanding of
the transformative powers they offer every true seeker of the
Mysteries.
Kabbalah teaches that people have the power to fashion their own
fate, but activating and using this power requires genuine
understanding of self, desire, and purpose. Helping seekers find
that wisdom is the purpose of this book. Kabbalah offers the oldest
application of astronomy and astrology known to humankind, and"
Kabbalistic Astrology demonstrates that probing the planets and
studying the stars, which is based in science, can help people
satisfy their deepest needs and the needs of others. More than
merely a collection of horoscopes, this book explains how Kabbalah
-- unlike conventional astrology, which insists that everything is
determined by the heavens -- teaches that each person is born at
the precise instant best suited to his or her special needs. In
clear, compelling language, Rav Berg brings to modern readers
Kabbalah's message of multiple futures -- with specific practices
and strategies for finding the best of them.
Nicholas Culpeper (1616 - 1654), is best known today for his
English Physician, a comprehensive guide to the medicinal uses of
native plants and herbs, the first such book published in English.
Culpeper, a Puritan, was the son of a clergyman. In 1634 he spent a
year at Cambridge, where he learned Greek and Latin, which enabled
him to study old medical texts. He was apprenticed to an apothecary
and started his formal practice in Spitalfields, London, around
1640. Culpeper supported the Parliamentary side in the English
Civil War, suffering a severe chest wound in 1643. After recovering
he returned to his medical practice in London, where he established
a reputation as an outstanding healer. War wounds combined with
overwork led to his death by exhaustion in 1654, aged 37. According
to his widow, he left behind some 70 unfinished manuscripts.
Astrological Judgement of Diseases from the Decumbiture of the
Sick, was published posthumously. This book is the astrological
companion to his better-known English Physician. In this book is
the distilled experience of a very busy practitioner. The text,
while newly reset, retains the spelling and punctuation of the
original.
This book has been several years in the writing - something which
becomes immediately obvious once you start reading it. Henry
Seltzer has left very few stones unturned in his quest to
understand how the archetypal Eris shows itself in a wide variety
of charts. From writers to revolutionaries and musicians to poets,
the non-negotiable and sometimes violent energy of this new
discovery bursts through to enrich and enliven any chart
delineation. This treasure trove includes lots of case histories as
well as chapters on Eris through the houses and in aspect with
other planets. A historical Appendix is also included.
A practical guide on how to work out your Chinese horoscope. Though
perhaps less well-known here than its Western counterpart, Chinese
astrology is every bit as illuminating and provides an equally
valuable shortcut to self-knowledge. Jonathan Dee, the
well-respected author of several books on astrology, tarot, and
fortune-telling, reveals all the mysteries of the art in this
informative volume. Filled with legends, charts, and history, it
contains all of the essentials for working out your Chinese
horoscope including the animal signs for each birthday year, month,
and hour. Each sign receives a richly detailed and enlightening
explanation. Learn the personality traits associated with the 12
animals: - The rat is considered to be the sign of charm and is
noted for its shrewdness, enterprise, and wealth. Rats are also
prosperous, entrepreneurial, obsessive, anxious, bossy, and mean. -
The ox is the sign of tenacity and prosperity and a symbol of
fertility and muscular strength. People born under the ox are
patient, contemplative, eloquent, chauvinistic, petty, and grumpy.
- The monkey is lively, complex, charming, diplomatic, and agile.
Monkeys are also dishonest, sarcastic, lacking respect, and
restless. Chinese Astrology, Orion Plain and Simple is an
accessible introduction that enlightens, entertains, and informs.
In this book the author describes the characteristics of the creatures of the zodiac, offering the reader an insight into their nature, contrasting each with its opposite and demonstrating the 12 to be an organic whole.;Avoiding the common popular astrological linking of a person to a particular constellation, he then shows these characteristics working on human nature, demonstrating how in social contexts they complement each other and can be used positively to strengthen a community of people.
This book shows how the discovery of the asteroids Ceres, Pallas
Athena, Juno, and Vesta coincided with the shift of a woman. The
creating, supporting, nurturing aspect held by the goddess Ceres,
the universal mother, brings us to how we feel nurtured and how we
function with our roles of mother-child. She embodies the principle
of unconditional love. Pallas Athena is our Warrior Goddess, a
woman in a man's world, carrying the principle of creative
intelligence. Vesta, our goddess of Focus and Commitment, is our
High Priestess. Juno, the Queen of Heaven and Divine Consort, is
our capacity for meaningful relationships. Understanding the themes
that each goddess holds enriches our understanding of that function
and expression in our lives.
* Shares modern biological studies offering evidence that our solar
system neighbors profoundly affect and shape life on our planet *
Explores the early practice of astrometeorology, revealing the
links between the solar system, weather, and climate over large
spans of time * Looks at the history, philosophy, and methodologies
of astrology, as well as its potential future applications in
medicine and the social sciences Our ancient ancestors recorded the
rhythms of the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars, correlating these
rhythms with weather, plant growth, and animal and human behaviors.
From these early geocosmic recordings were born calendars,
astronomy, and astrology. While astrology is now mostly viewed as
subjective fortune-telling, Bruce Scofield argues that astrology is
not only a practice but also a science, specifically a form of
systems science--a set of techniques for mapping and analyzing
self-organizing systems. Providing clear evidence that our solar
system neighbors profoundly affect and shape life on our planet,
Scofield shares modern biological and climatological studies on the
effects of Earth's rotation, the Sun, the Moon, and the rhythms of
light, gravity, magnetism, and solar radiation on terrestrial
processes. He explores the early practice of astrometeorology, a
method of weather forecasting used from ancient times into the
Renaissance, revealing the links between the solar system, weather,
and climate over large spans of time. He shares his own studies on
the correlations between Saturn's position and terrestrial weather
as well as presenting a wealth of evidence on astrological effects
and the theories and mechanics behind them. Examining the history
of astrology, he looks at its earliest foundations in Mesopotamia
and its development by the classical Greeks into a mathematically
informed body of knowledge. He explores the decline and
marginalization of astrology during the Scientific Revolution of
the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, when astrology was
transformed from a credible science to a controversial practice
after being attacked by the Church and then abandoned by
experimental scientists. Presenting a broad look at how the cosmic
environment shapes nature, the author shows how the practice and
natural science of astrology can expand its applications in modern
society in such varied fields as medicine, history, and sociology.
Spica Award: International Book of the Year, 2001. The astrology
that is ubiquitous today is quite different from astrology as
practised throughout almost all of its long history. The dilute and
distorted version with which we are so familiar is not the study
that has fascinated so many of the finest minds in our culture with
its intellectual depth and practical precision. John Frawley
provides a searching - and often hilarious - critique of modern
astrology, and a detailed introduction to all the main branches of
the traditional craft. Accessible to those with no prior knowledge
of the subject, yet sufficiently through to serve as a vade mecum
for the student or practitioner.
