The king of country blues, Mississippi John Hurt first made his mark in the late 1920s with an influential fingerpicking technique and easygoing vocal style. Like so many of his contemporaries, he was "rediscovered" during the folk/blues boom of the early '60s, and he enjoyed a second phase of his career. The 10 tracks included on this concise-but-effective sampler come from that latter period. While these are basically re-recordings of tunes he'd made famous decades before, they still bear that Hurt mojo, providing nearly as enticing an introduction to his music as his '20s recordings.
Blues legend BB King performs live at New York's notorious Sing Sing prison for a Thanksgiving concert in 1972. Folk singer and activist Joan Baez also makes a guest appearance, along with The Voices of East Harlem gospel choir.
Ex-Fleetwood Mac guitarist Jeremy Spencer plays live at John Henry's Studio London in August 2005. Tracks include 'Red Hot Mama', 'You Don't Have to Be Black to Be Blue', 'Pointed Toe Shoes', 'Bitter Lemon', 'The Sky is Crying' and 'Shake Your Money Maker'.
In this unique lesson, Bob Brozman and Woody Mann describe and teach in detail duet arrangements in the styles of the great Delta blues guitarists: Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Willie Brown, Tommy Johnson and Son House. Techniques and ideas forcreating a cohesive guitar part that compliments, rather than competes or conflicts, are discussed. Each part is taught separately and presented in tablature and music notation. Woody and Bob also present effective techniques for improving improvisation skills while jamming with other musicians. The tunes presented in this lesson can be used as repertoire pieces for either solo or duet situations. All in all, a very unique lesson giving you twice the amount of ideas and challenges from two of todays blues guitar masters.
