My Angle to the Pocket is a compilation of essays on bowlers and
bowling, written over the years for the Colorado Bowler newspaper.
Some are humorous, some are thought provoking, and some may be just
plain provoking. Bowling is a sport, and, as a sport, is a tempting
target for some satire, humor, and a few well deserved shots at the
powers that be. And bowlers are folks just like anyone else,
really. They cheer the strikes and boo the splits. They comprise
the range of society- truck drivers, mathematicians, scientists,
homemakers, college students, and even an exotic dancer or two.
This book is the author's "angle to the pocket," as he discusses
bowling and bowlers, and maybe pricks a pin in a couple of pompous
bubbles along the way.
When the two-piece bowling balls came on the market, shop
professionals placed their internal imbalances in a myriad of
positions, relative to the grip, causing erratic pocket pin carry
and/or causing the ball tracks to run over the grip holes.
Believing that the goal of serious bowlers should be consistency of
roll and optimal deflection, leading to enhanced pocket pin carry,
Bob Strickland refined a layout system that benefits bowlers using
various types of release. He calls his system Dynamic
Customization, because, rather than fitting internal imbalances to
particular lane dressing patterns, it fits internal imbalances to
release type; dynamics are customized to the way the bowler
delivers the ball. The method of achieving axis stability and
optimal pin carry is different from most of the drilling
instructions included with new bowling balls. Its purpose is to
maximize pin carry on solid pocket hits for an individual's release
type without regard to making the ball's visible reaction take on
any particular shape. The procedures described in Dynamic
Customization are easy to master and minimize confusion, allowing
bowlers to turn their attention to refining their forms, sharpening
their ability to hit targets, and building confidence.
Over the last several decades, one of the most frustrating problems
facing bowlers who are looking to get better at the sport has been
the lack of a simple, universally accepted system that works for
everyone. Enter Mark Baker and his revolutionary approach to
coaching -- an approach that has made him the most sought-after
bowling coach in the world. In this book, Baker reveals entirely
new and simple ways to illustrate the kinds of things that can
immediately improve a bowler's scores without completely
reinventing the bowler's own unique style. Using empirical evidence
illustrated by common traits that the vast majority of
Hall-of-Fame-caliber bowlers possess, Baker convincingly (and
humorously) explains what it takes to improve your bowling scores
by making small, easy-to-adopt changes within the structure of your
own, natural game. The Game Changer truly is a game changer when it
comes to the way bowlers and bowling coaches will approach bowling
improvement for the foreseeable future.
Bowling Tough shows you how to use a few simple, proven mental
skills to put you in control of what you want to accomplish in
bowling. If you use these methods faithfully, you will eagerly take
on responsibility for your own performance. You will be a master of
your own success.

The Laws Of Cricket, Match Playing, Single Wicket, Etc.
Aimed squarely at beginning and intermediate bowlers, this book
presents a surprisingly simple bowling technique that can change
the way you bowl and increase your scores. Written by a long-time
bowler and research scientist, it applies his deep knowledge of
locomotion and biomechanics, love of the sport of bowling, and
whimsical sense of humor to produce a practical and readable guide.
Perceptive Bowling is what the serious bowler needs. This was a
groundbreaking book when first published in 1980, with a second
printing in 1983. Out of print for over two decades, the present
printing is from 2011, with corrections and annotations to bring
the information into modern perspective. In the first four
chapters, the hand, arm, and fit of the ball are thoroughly
discussed, followed by a consideration of the release in Chapter 5.
In Chapter 6, a reliable targeting system is explained, followed in
Chapters 7 and 8 with a discussion of the weight distribution and
surface properties of the bowling ball. Chapter 9 deals with how to
adapt to many different lane conditions. Chapters 10 and 11 give
instructions on how to fit and drill a bowling ball, including
insights into the offset thumbhole drilling. A list of Recommended
Reading is available, as well. Perceptive Bowling became an
international classic, and the lessons, in addition to being
historically significant, are useful to serious bowlers today.
