Through letters with a famous author, one French librarian tells her
love story and describes the brutal Nazi occupation of her small
coastal village.
Saint-Malo, France: August 1938. Jocelyn and Antoine are childhood
sweethearts, but just after they marry and are hoping for a child,
Antoine is called up to fight against Germany. As the war rages,
Jocelyn focuses on comforting and encouraging the local population by
recommending books from her beloved library in Saint-Malo. She herself
finds hope in her letters to a famous author.
After the French capitulation, the Nazis occupy the town and turn it
into a fortress to control the north of French Brittany. Residents try
passive resistance, but the German commander ruthlessly purges part of
the city's libraries to destroy any potentially subversive writings. At
great risk to herself, Jocelyn manages to hide some of the books while
waiting to receive news from Antoine, who has been taken to a German
prison camp.
What unfolds in her letters is Jocelyn’s description of her mission: to
protect the people of Saint-Malo and the books they hold so dear. With
prose both sweeping and romantic, Mario Escobar brings to life the
occupied city and re-creates the history of those who sacrificed all to
care for the people they loved.
Source to Summit is a brand new KS3 course, comprising student
books and digital Kerboodle resources, that have been cohesively
planned to ensure full compliance with the new Religious Education
Directory (RED). Series editor, Andy Lewis, and a writing team of
practicing teachers have drawn on their expertise and classroom
experience to present the new curriculum in a way that students
will be able to understand and remember. Mirroring the structure of
the RED, there is a strong narrative telling the Christian story
from Creation to the Church today. Lessons are carefully sequenced,
and content presented in accessible and vividly designed spreads.
There are opportunities for students to engage with scripture, and
a wide range of case studies and examples help bring alive the
Catholic faith. Activities on each spread explicitly allow students
to develop skills to understand, discern and personally respond to
the material they encounter. Through a range of tasks with
accompanying guidance, students will be able to demonstrate their
progress over time in a structured way. This course seeks to be
authentic to the Catholic faith, rigorous and engaging, allowing
students of all faiths and backgrounds to be fully immersed in the
curriculum in an inclusive way.
So ’n ryk man sal beter as Bennie kan sorg.
This is an introduction to African Christian ethics for Christian
colleges and Bible schools. The book is divided into two parts. The
first part deals with the theory of ethics, while the second
discusses practical issues. The issues are grouped into the
following six sections: Socio-Political Issues, Financial Issues,
Marriage Issues, Sexual Issues, Medical Issues, and Religious
Issues. Each section begins with a brief general introduction,
followed by the chapters dealing with specific issues in that area.
Each chapter begins with an introduction, discusses traditional
African thinking on the issue, presents an analysis of relevant
biblical material, and concludes with some recommendations. There
are questions at the end of each chapter for discussion or personal
reflection, often asking students to reflect on how the discussion
in the chapter applies to their ministry situation.
C. S. Lewis here offers wisdom and lessons that illuminate our private dialogue with God―prayer―in this collection drawn from the breadth of his writings.
The revered teacher and bestselling author of such classic Christian works as Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters, C. S. Lewis here offers wisdom and lessons that illuminate our private dialogue with God―prayer―in this collection drawn from the breadth of his writings.
C. S. Lewis’s insights on Christianity and his reflections on Christian life continue to guide us more than fifty years after his death. How to Pray showcases Lewis’s enduring wisdom on prayer and its place in our daily lives.
Cultivated from his many essays, articles, and letters, as well as his classic works, How to Pray provides practical wisdom and instruction to help readers nurture their spiritual beliefs and embrace prayer in all its forms. While many people would like to speak to God, they often don’t know how to begin. Lewis guides them through the practice, illuminating the significance of prayer and why it is central to faith.
A welcome addition to the C. S. Lewis canon, How to Pray offers a deeper understanding of our personal tradition of prayer, our faith, and what is means to be a Christian.

Dr. Peter Chesterfield is one of the Royal London Hospital's top
neurosurgeons. He is also a workaholic, ordered by his boss to take
a week off to attend a medical symposium at the luxurious Elysium
Grand on the island of Maui. While there, Peter pulls a woman with
a skull fracture from the water. Though he is able to revive her in
the ambulance, she eventually dies in his arms, leaving him with
only one clue to what happened to her: the word "honu."
Increasingly obsessed with discovering the cause of his patient's
death, Peter becomes entangled in an ongoing investigation of a
brazen luxury auto theft. He also becomes a source of deep
irritation to detective Lisa Kealoha, who has jurisdiction over the
case. But when the two join forces, they begin to uncover a
destructive plot that runs far deeper than either of them could
have imagined. And if they're not careful, they're both going to
end up dead. Award-winning author James R. Hannibal whisks you away
to the deadly beauty of Hawaii for a story of greed, violence, and
justice that will leave you breathless.
