Psoriasis is a common, non-infectious, chronic inflammatory skin
disease characterised by distinctive erythematous plaques that
multiply and scale over with silvery patches. Psoriasis can affect
any cutaneous site and is frequently found on the extensor skin
surface of elbows and knees, scalp and sacral regions. Psoriasis is
also associated with systemic conditions, including psoriatic
arthritis, Crohns disease and lymphoma. This book discusses the
epidemiology, diagnosis and management strategies of psoriasis.
Chapter One provides an overview of the challenging medical
condition. Chapter Two discusses the possible factors raised by
literature as main contributors to sleep disturbances and its
correlation to psoriasis. Chapter Three gives an overview of the
current results where blood plasma thermal changes have been
detected by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) technique on
psoriatic patients with different clinical stages, and monitored
patients with no symptoms to patients with serious symptoms.
Chapter Four discusses psoriasis treatment that targets the
IL-23/Th17 axis. Chapter Five reviews natural health products for
managing psoriasis.
There are many books on facial rejuvenation aimed at dermatologists
but relatively few covering the whole body. Most body rejuvenation
books take a surgical approach and are aimed specifically at
plastic surgeons. However, body rejuvenation is a dynamic area
encompassing many minimally invasive techniques, often derived from
facial rejuvenation, which are more cost-effective and require less
downtime than traditional surgical techniques. The number of
treatment options can be bewildering, and Rejuvenation of the Aging
Body aims to provide clear instructions on which treatment types to
use for each specific problem, together with details of any special
modifications that must be made for different body areas. Chapters
describe how best to assess the aging body and build a suitable
treatment plan combining all the latest surgical and non-surgical
techniques to give the best cosmetic results. Rejuvenation of the
Aging Body is an invaluable guide to the assessment and management
of the aging body, for trainee and practicing dermatologists,
dermatologic surgeons and cosmetic surgeons. Key points Cuts
through the different techniques to explain which procedures are
best suited for each specific problem Focuses on the whole body
(not just the face) and on the key areas that dermatologists and
other clinicians treat most often Includes numerous colour
photographs that illustrate each technique and its effect on the
appearance Features contributions from experienced clinicians,
edited by a well-recognised educator in dermatologic surgery

The Aesthetic Medicine: Art and Techniques provides step-by-step
instructions in the procedures and techniques commonly employed in
aesthetic medicine. The book is divided into four parts, the first
two of which offer an introduction to aesthetic medicine and
discuss preoperative assessment and treatment. Detailed guidance is
then given on a wide range of cutaneous procedures, including the
use of botulinum toxins, dermabrasion and microdermabrasion,
cryotherapy, chemical peel skin resurfacing, laser treatments,
mesotherapy, sclerotherapy, capacitive radiofrequency treatment,
and the use of dermarollers. The final part of the book is devoted
to techniques employed in shaping the face and body, such as breast
and facial augmentation, penile enhancement, liposuction, and
management of hair loss or excess hair. All procedures are depicted
with the aid of numerous high-quality illustrations and color
photographs. This book will serve as an excellent guide for both
beginners and experienced practitioners.
Lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory mucocutaneous disease of
unknown cause, rarely observed in young individuals primarily
affecting women between the fifth and sixth decades of life.
Although its pathogenesis is unclear, several studies suggest this
is a persistent immune disorder where the basal keratinocytes are
probably attacked by T lymphocytes. This book examines the
potential pathogenesis of oral lichen planus, the clinical and
histopathological criteria that need to be taken into consideration
of the diagnosis of OLP and the association of oral lichen planus
with systemic diseases and amalgam restorations.
