'Evensong' is the third album from British award winning a cappella
octet Voces8. The album sees the eight piece once again turn their
attention to a selection of jazz and choral works, all re-arranged
and re-interpreted in their own unique style. The single and title
track 'Evensong', originally written by Ken Howard and Alan
Blaikley as the theme to the BBC's Miss Marple series, is re-worked
with new lyrics and sees Voces8 as a contender for the all
important 2008 UK Christmas number one spot.
Most Andrews Sisters compilations focus on the trio's phenomenal
run of singles in the late 1930s and early '40s. MUSIC LESSONS WITH
THE ANDREWS SISTERS bucks that trend by concentrating on the
group's work from the late '40s and early '50s. In this way, MUSIC
LESSONS is a unique collection, offering up 25 tracks of
lesser-known, yet thoroughly excellent material. Though the
Sisters' post-war period was less remarkable commercially, their
tight, intricate harmonies never lost any of their luster. Patty
Andrews gets a couple of solo spots, and guest appearances by Bing
Crosby and Red Foley mix things up a bit. Improved sound, and the
fact that many of these tracks are appearing on CD for the first
time, make this a special package for collectors and casual fans
alike.
