An easy-reading book about horses, with beautyful pictures in great colors.

Hi and a very warm welcome to "Horses" - (The Essential Guide To Horses For Kids & Adults). I'm one of those people who loves to hear about extraordinary facts or trivia about anything. They seem to be one of the few things my memory can actually recall. I'm not sure if it's to do with the shock or the "WoW" factor but for some reason my brain seems to store it for a later date. I've always been a great believer in that whatever the subject, if a good teacher can inspire you and hold your attention, then you'll learn Now I'm not a teacher but the system I've used in previous publications on Amazon seems to work well, particularly with children. This edition includes a selection of those "WoW" facts combined with some pretty awesome pictures, if I say so myself At the end there is a short "True or False" quiz to check memory recall and to help cement some of the information included in the book. Don't worry though, it's a bit of fun but at the same time, it helps to check understanding. If you are an expert on horses then it's unlikely you will find anything new here but if, like me, you enjoy learning unusual facts with interesting pictures then I hope you'll find it worthwhile. Ann was not too happy about camping every weekend with her family. When she was little it was fun, however, being a teenager had changed things. Every weekend her parents forced her to go camping with them. Ann was so fed up with it all. She was trying to devise a way in which she could convince her father that it was ok to let her stay home. That was when her dad told the family that he had a surprise for the whole family. It turned out that he had joined a ranch. The whole family would now be camping at the Double D Ranch EVERY weekend. The thought of becoming a member of some horse ranch just about drove Ann crazy. She did not put much faith into the idea. In fact "dorky" would be a word that she expected would describe the ranch. The mustangs are the free-roaming horses of the North American west. They first descended from the horses brought to North America by the Spaniards. Most mustang aficionados refer to mustangs as wild horses. Those who consider the mustangs to be nothing more than pests introduced into the ecosystem after the disappearance of the true North American wild horse in the ice-age (Equus ferus ferus) call them feral, because they descended from horses once-domesticated, and also because they want the land and resources for domestic cattle. In every sense the mustangs have returned to their original wild state; however, as they can survive without the help or hinderance of man, who once drove them off cliffs, used them as a food source and discarded them on this continent once their use was no longer needed. They are a part of our history and in 1971, the United States Congress recognized Mustangs as the "living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West that they are The herds vary in the degree to which they can be traced to original Iberian horses brought to these shores by the Spanish, and some contain a stronger genetic make-up of ranch stock and other breeds, the species having interbred with either abandoned stock, or escaped domestic stock. Those herds in isolated locales are genetically closer to original Spanish Iberian stock. Mustangs are beautiful creatures whose future, although today still debatable, that have survived though abandonment, slaughter, and worse. However, in spite of everything they have managed to adapt and survive making them true 'Comeback Kids.' Enjoy the photographs of John D.
