Mary Hopkin was Apples first success story. Her debut single,
produced by Paul McCartney Those Were The Days rocketed her to
international stardom all at the tender age of eighteen.
Following the huge success of the single, Paul and Mary set
about putting together her first album which was released in
February, 1969 just six months after the single. Post Card was a
mixture of contemporary folk music (including three Donovan songs),
with some older standards. In the US, Those Were The Days was added
as track one of the original release and for the CD in 1991, this
was retained. We are also retaining it on this 2010 edition along
with Turn Turn Turn (To Everything There Is A Season). In addition
we are also including both sides of Marys second single Goodbye and
Sparrow. To complete the CD we included a track that could have
been her third single had history not dictated otherwise. Fields Of
St. Etienne was scheduled as Apple 16 but the release was cancelled
and it is therefore being released here for the first time. The
song was later re-recorded with a different arrangement and
eventually released in some countries coupled with Que Sera Sera
(Whatever Will Be Will Be).
