Books > Mind, Body & Spirit > Fortune-telling & divination > Fortune-telling by cards (cartomancy)
Written by an anonymous figure who wished for the book to be published posthumously, Meditations on the Tarot has been translated from the original French by author Robert Powell, who lives in Germany.
Inspired by old Nordic myths and folklore, this beautiful deck
featuring a specially commissioned card by Tracey Emin, offers a
new and powerful insight into the meanings of each card. Filled
with symbolic imagery, it takes the reader on an empowering journey
filled with magical possibilities. From images of symbolic animals
(like wolves and bears), to depictions of the Northern Lights and
Nordic Tree of Life, The Magical Nordic Tarot is filled with
powerful imagery. There are references to the Nordic Gods and
Goddesses, including Odin and Freya, and images of key Nordic
symbols, such as the Nordic compass and Rune stones. References to
some of the key characters in Nordic myths include a mischievous
squirrel called Ratatoskr, who would run up and down the Tree of
Life stirring up trouble between the eagle on top and the serpent
at the bottom. The deck also includes a book giving detailed
information about each card, along with key words, an inspirational
message and interesting Nordic legends.

Interpretation is the key to the art of Tarot reading. This pack
includes a Tarot deck and an easy-to-use book which explains the
key concepts of the cards in simple terms that the reader will find
easy to remember and then put into practice in a reading. The Tarot
has a 500-year history and most Western and Eastern cultures have
created their own unique decks. The cards in this set, exquisitely
illustrated by artist Emma Garner, express the rich imagery and
symbols of the Tarot in a way that is both stunning and immediate.
There are eight different card arrangements to try laying out, plus
essential information on timing a reading; this is often omitted in
Tarot instruction guides, even though the first question asked of a
Tarot reader is often 'When will these events happen?'. Particular
attention is also paid to interpreting the 'people' or Court cards
of the Minor Arcana, as these are often stumbling blocks for the
new reader. Armed with the knowledge in this book, the reader will
be able to make sense of a complete reading for him or herself or a
friend, and use these inspiring cards to solve problems, identify
opportunities, and ultimately divine the future.
This deck combines mystical Sufi wisdom with classic tarot
archetypes recast as Sufi concepts and figures, offering a new lens
on the traditional tarot system. Sufism is often called the path to
the heart because it is a process of turning within to the
fountainhead of all knowledge through the opening and purification
of the heart. In tarot, we meet the carefree fool, the enigmatic
magician, the mystical high priestess, the commanding emperor, the
nurturing empress and more - archetypes that represent the many
qualities that each of us must call upon on as we follow the
'Fool's Journey' through life. Both Sufism and the tarot call the
reader to walk the path of self-discovery and inner-knowing,
uncovering secrets not to predict the future, but to discover
answers to the big questions: Why are we here? Why do we feel the
way we feel and act the way we do? What is our purpose in this
life?
Reading the Tarot doesn't have to be hard! The Celtic Cross spread
requires no long hours of study, no memorization, no muss or
fuss--just lay out your cards, open the book, and begin! Simple
instructions are included to do a one-, three-, or ten-card
reading-enough to answer even the most confounding questions. Every
card and its positional meanings are rooted in traditional
symbolism, paired here with modern insight in a user-friendly
language you can easily understand. No dry and dusty instruction
here-you'll have more fun than the law allows with the irreverent
and insightful interpretations!
The Green World Oracle focuses on trees and plants as primal
symbols of life. Each has an oracular voice, as do the nature
spirits, devas, and deities associated with them. Trees speak to us
of living in balance with all of life. People often refer to their
"roots," the "fruits" of their labor, trees of wisdom, and trees of
good and evil. Abused women in Greek mythology are rescued by being
turned into trees; children are born from them; gods like Osiris
are entombed in them; sacred fire is struck from them; the voice of
Moses' deity came from one. We plant a tree to celebrate a wedding,
a birth, or to mourn a death. Humankind has always sensed the
presence of spirits, or "otherness," around trees. This oracle
gives voice to their rich, caring insights. A beautifully designed
deck of thirty-three cards offers access to these mysterious
realms.Includes cards and book.
Now available as the world's smallest tarot deck, this pack of
universal Waite tarot uses the drawings of Patricia Colman Smith,
recoloured by Mary Hanson-Roberts.
Used for self-exploration or divination, Tarot has, for more than a
500 years, been the most popular and accessible of all esoteric
tools, looming large in today's mainstream culture. Why? Because
the cards are inexpensive and easy to carry-a perfect traveling
companion and, therefore, an invitation to a journey inward and
out. Humans are drawn to playing games and feel driven to find
meaning in the chaos of paradoxical signs. The vivid iconography of
the "arcanas" speak to us like no other language, moving us to the
core, weaving through each cards a universal story, a metaphorical
pathway of transformation. This 400 page book presents for the
first time a close look at 500 years of figurative card decks
created or used for fortune telling, divinations, and oracle
purposes and will explore, one card at the time, their iconographic
roots at the cross-roads of the medieval imaginarium, Western
esoteric wisdom, folklore, and also contemporary art and pop
culture. With hundreds of images drawn from more than 100 decks,
rarely published and often forgotten in library archives, it will
offer the first visual history of tarot.

One of Llewellyn s bestselling tarot decks is now available with
brilliantly refreshed artwork and an updated guidebook. With
borderless cards, richer colours, and stylish design improvements,
the deck retains its powerful readability with a more contemporary
look to engage its many fans and new users alike. Following the RWS
style and abounding with medieval magicians, priestesses, emperors,
and knights, the Gilded Tarot Royale will continue to inspire tarot
readers for years to come.
The tarot dates back to the 15th century, with the modern form
developed by Arthur Waite and Patricia Coleman in the early 20th
century. Since then, tarot has evolved and grown in popularity over
the years due to its continuous appeal as an informative and
inspiring tool. The One World Tarot takes a fresh and contemporary
approach to the deck and the meaning of the cards. It is intended
for up-and-coming practitioners of any age. Traditional tarot decks
are very medieval and Anglo-Saxon in their look and feel. In
contrast, this book and the card art have been created to encompass
many centuries and cultures, embrace our global diversity, and
apply to all genders. Written by two popular tarot experts, Lena
Rodriguez and Seanna Rose, The One World Tarot takes a modern,
global approach to established and increasingly popular art. The
One World Tarot deck pays homage to and retains many recognizable
features of the traditional tarot while modernizing it for the 21st
century.
