First published in 1896, "The Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum" is
an interesting dissertation on the ruling of the world by the seven
great archangels written by Éliphas Lévi, (1810 - 1875), a French
author of occult literature and ceremonial magician. In this vintage
volume, Lévi outlines how the world is ruled by one of the seven
archangels, each for a period of 354 years. The archangels are
represented by celestial bodies, with Michael being the sun, Gabriel
being the moon, Samael, Mars, etc. This volume will appeal to those
with an interest in the occult, and it is not to be missed by
collectors of vintage esoteric literature. Contents include: "The
Magical Ritual of the Sanctum Regnum", "The Priestess - La Papesse",
"The Empress - L'imperatrice", "The Emperor", "L'Emereur", "The Pope of
Hierophant - Le Pape", "The Lovers - L'amoureux", "The Chariot of
Hermes - Le Chariot", "Justice - La Justice", etc. Many vintage books
such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with
this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable,
modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new
biography of the author.

A great number of historical examples show how desperate people sought to obtain a glimpse of the future or explain certain incidents retrospectively through signs that had occurred in advance. In that sense, signs are always considered a portent of future events. In different societies, and at different times, the written or unwritten rules regarding their interpretation varied, although there was perhaps a common understanding of these processes. This present volume collates essays from specialists in the field of prognostication in the European Middle Ages. Contributors are Klaus Herbers, Wolfram Brandes, Zhao Lu, Rolf Scheuermann, Thomas Krumpel, Bernardo Bertholin Kerr, Gaelle Bosseman, Julia Eva Wannenmacher (), Matthias Kaup, Vincent Gossaert, Jurgen Gebhardt, Matthias Gebauer, Richard Landes.

Discover the tarot with Wild Card, a friendly, funny and straightforward guide to the seventy-eight cards, their stories and meanings. Every time you draw a card, you open up possibilities. What will appear and what will you see? What lessons could the cards offer up? What aspects of yourself might they reveal? At its heart, the tarot is a storytelling device, a deck of symbols and narratives that can spark conversations, inspire ideas, and reveal new perspectives. And you don't need to be psychic to use it: it is a practice that is open to everyone. In this beautifully illustrated guide, tarot readers Jen Cownie and Fiona Lensvelt introduce each of the cards, drawing on literature, pop culture, and their own experiences, and encourage you to add your voice to this centuries-old tradition. Whether you are learning to read for yourself and others, refreshing your knowledge, or just curious, Wild Card will show you how the tarot can add a little bit of magic to your life.
Tarot cards have been around since the Renaissance and have become increasingly popular in recent years, often due to their prevalence in popular culture. While Tarot means many different things to many different people, the cards somehow strike universal chords that can resonate through popular culture in the contexts of art, television, movies, even comic books. The symbolism within the cards, and the cards as symbols themselves, make Tarot an excellent device for the media of popular culture in numerous ways. They make horror movies scarier. They make paintings more provocative. They provide illustrative structure to comics and can establish the traits of television characters. The Cards: The Evolution and Power of Tarot begins with an extensive review of the history of Tarot from its roots as a game to its supposed connection to ancient Egyptian magic, through its place in secret societies, and to its current use in meditation and psychology. This section ends with an examination of the people who make up today's tarot community. Then, specific areas of popular culture-art, television, movies, and comics-are each given a chapter in which to survey the use of Tarot. In this section, author Patrick Maille analyzes such works as Deadpool, Books of Magic by Neil Gaiman, Disney's Haunted Mansion, Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows, The Andy Griffith Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and King of the Hill. The cards are evocative images in their own right, but the mystical fascination they inspire makes them a fantastic tool to be used in our favorite shows and stories.
Tarot cards have been used for over five hundred years, for gameplay,
divination, creative inspiration and spiritual practice. The practice
of reading Tarot comes with a rich, complex history, full of mystical,
philosophical, and religious mystery. As old as the art form may be,
its popularity in modern culture is growing rapidly- Tarot decks and
cartomancy play a significant role in many present-day metaphysical
healing practices, spiritual training, as well as artistic and creative
circles...
