Tim Gosling is a British interior designer with an international
reputation for designing exquisite interiors and beautifully
crafted furniture for a range of public and private clients.
Classic Contemporary showcases Gosling's recent work and gives the
historical context for his designs, with archive drawings and
photographs of the work of architects and designers whose work he
admires. The book is structured by period, beginning with the
eighteenth century and finishing in the twenty-first. Each chapter
begins with one page that lists the Design Rules, the Materials and
the Leading Figures associated with the era and style. The text of
the chapter discusses key architects and designers, particularly
those who have influenced Tim or whom he admires, and the style
that emerged in that period, illustrated with historical images.
The rest of the chapter consists of an extended plate section
showing Gosling's interiors and furniture with extended captions in
which he comments on the elements of the period's style
incorporated into his work. The final chapter has a discussion and
photographs of the craftsmanship that goes into the production of
the furniture Tim designs. Through these pages, Regency, Victorian,
Art Deco or Modernism can be viewed in a new light, resulting in a
book that provides a unique insight into the work of one of today's
most popular and respected designers.
Limited Edition is the new buzzword in furniture design. The demand
for unique pieces is steadily increasing. With prototypes, one-offs
and limited product lines, designers are celebrating a cult of
individuality for all price classes. Furniture prototypes have
always been an element of the industrial design process, but now
they are being brought from the workshops and presented to the
public as embodiments of one of the most exciting creative fields
of our age. In the global village with its standardized
commodities, exclusive one-offs with an artisanal flavor are
turning into coveted objects. Limited furniture series satisfy the
collector's thirst for objects that dissolve the boundary between
art and design. Limited Edition pursues this new phenomenon and
uncovers its background in meticulous investigative essays based on
the author's ongoing interchange with key designers, gallery
owners, auctioneers and manufacturers. With a rich selection of
magnificent images and an attractive layout, it presents the best
and most breathtaking pieces by the leading designers.
In Ovid's Metamorphoses, Eoos is one of the chariot draft horses of
the sun god Helios; the design studio EOOS founded in Vienna 20
years ago is also a driving force, in the today's globalized world
of design. This is verified by more than 130 design awards and an
impressive number of patents. EOOS pursues a consistent reduced
design language, alternating between archaic and high-tech and
entirely free from stylistic affectations. This first and long
overdue monograph on EOOS is divided into three parts, and is a
source of inspiration, analysis, and documentation. Part one is
based on a series of images, which gives insight into the "making
of" - into the way in which EOOS approaches the design process. It
shows references, links, drawings, research material, and finished
products. In part two, EOOS assumes the form of first-person
narrator to report on selected designs, backgrounds, and details of
their histories. Part three documents in chronological order all
the EOOS products that have gone into production, as well as
projects and design experiments conceived purely by and for EOOS.
