Manual of Fast Track Recovery for Colorectal Surgery provides a broad overview on enhanced recovery, with expert opinions from leaders in the field regarding elements of enhanced recovery care that are generic and specific to colorectal surgery. This book covers the patient journey through such a programme, commencing with optimisation of the patient's condition, patient education and conditioning of their expectations. Acing the IBD Questions on the GI Board Exam - The Ultimate Crunch-Time Resource (Paperback): Brennan Spiegel, Hetal Karsan Acing the IBD Questions on the GI Board Exam - The Ultimate Crunch-Time Resource (Paperback)
Brennan Spiegel, Hetal Karsan
R3,419 Discovery Miles 34 190 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The world of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) knowledge is vast. Within that world is a sub-set of knowledge that is especially important for everyday clinical care. And a sub-set of that is testable for the Board exam. The testable material includes time-honoured, locked-in-stone, mostly uncontroversial facts that have withstood the test of time. The answer to your study questions (and reduction of your study time!) can be found inside Acing the IBD Questions on the GI Board Exam: The Ultimate Crunch-Time Resource. Until now, there has been no single, slim, but high-yield volume that summarises the IBD you really need to know for the board exams, preparing for rounds, or just plain read. The authors have collected every pearl of wisdom, high-yield factlet, IBD ""Board buzzword"", micrograph, and classic imaging study they could muster, all while keeping Acing the IBD Questions on the GI Board Exam: The Ultimate Crunch-Time Resource a manageable size. In today's fast-paced world it is hard to keep up with the burgeoning IBD literature. Traditional textbooks usually feature long and detailed discussions that don't directly address board and recertification exams. On the flip side, many board review manuals provide lists and bullet points lacking sufficient background and context. Acing the IBD Questions on the GI Board Exam by Drs. Brennan Spiegel and Hetal Karsan, fills the unmet need in board review by presenting time-tested and high-yield information in a rational, useful, and contextually appropriate format. With its focus on pearl after pearl, emphasis on images, and attention to high-yield "tough stuff" vignettes you don't know the answers to (yet), Acing the IBD Questions on the GI Board Exam: The Ultimate Crunch-Time Resource will help you ace the GI and recertifying examinations, look good on clerkship rounds, simply challenge you with interesting and entertaining vignettes, and take optimal care of your IBD patients in clinical practice.

It has never been easy to introduce new concepts and therapeutic in-terventions into surgical practice. When attempting to do so, one is faced with the interagency of traditional dogma, which still in this era of evidence-based medicine tends to dominate the surgical thought pr- ess. This is particularly so in the area of coloproctology, where prejudice and personal opinion often influence objective analysis whenever tradition is challenged. A large body of literature on anorectal prolapse has accumulated over the years; although much is based on personal viewpoint rather than scientific evidence, it has nevertheless been passed down through the generations as ac-cepted wisdom and practice. As a consequence, it is a challenge to change the mindset of a generation of surgeons and to introduce new concepts and novel techniques which at first might appear to be a radical departure from conventional teaching. It is obviously not possible to present the basis for the develop-ment of transanal stapling techniques for anorectal prolapse in this Foreword; this is dealt with in detail elsewhere in this book. The in-terested reader will have the opportunity to share in the new and emerging concepts surrounding anorectal prolapse and to deepen their understanding of the pat- physiology and basis for surgical correction. Although hemorrhoidal disease and external rectal prolapse have been known about for centuries, the understanding of internal rectal prolapse (intussusception) and rectocele has only really advanced with the emergence of radiological imaging tech-niques, such as defecography.

R3,073 Discovery Miles 30 730 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The field of colorectal surgery has undergone tremendous developments in recent decades. Surgery has become less invasive, new perspectives and insights have improved perioperative management and novel outcome measures have been defined. At the same time, the limits of surgical technique and perioperative care are being challenged by more complex patients. In order to realize the immense potential for excellent outcomes in colorectal surgery, coordinated multifaceted care must be delivered within a context of limited resources. Accordingly, there is a pressing need to streamline processes and heighten clinical productivity. Excellent communication and collaboration are required, with constant attention to detail and precision within an environment of learning, research and innovation. This book discusses in depth the transdisciplinary integration of different components of care in colorectal surgery. Pertinent background information on the complexities of current management in colorectal surgery is first provided, followed by discussion of the role of design thinking in care integration. Subsequent chapters focus on a range of issues associated with surgical and perioperative care in patients undergoing colorectal surgery, with emphasis on how the multiple facets of care can be integrated through a transdisciplinary approach. Each chapter provides helpful take-home messages in bullet point form and numerous informative figures and tables are also included. The authors are surgeons, physicians, anesthetists, oncologists, nurses, and allied health professionals with extensive experience in the field.
