Cancer Medicine: Drug Discovery and Development, is an essential
text in the science which bridges the gap between laboratory and
bedside medicine. The typical cancer medicine text book discusses
pathology and treatment of neoplasms. This book takes an entirely
different approach, and while it briefly describes certain
neoplasms, it focuses on the discovery and development of
anticancer agents. It details the procurement of plant materials
from various remote parts of the earth, such as Africa, their
extraction processes, application into animal cancer models and
further development in human clinical trials. Novel research
methods are discussed, and while this book does not assert itself
as a terminal text, it challenges the young and older scientists to
a path of medicinal creativity, especailly in its area of focus
(cancer), where further research and discoveries are desperately
needed. Furthermore, it serves as a guide of further inquiry into
the discovery and development of pharmaceutical agents for
challenging parasitic infections, such as malaria, and viral
ailments such as HIV-AIDS.
This collection of essays by John Stuart Mill includes his
masterwork of political philosophy On Liberty, together with other
notable and acclaimed works. A famed philosopher, essayist and
economist, John Stuart Mill has since the nineteenth century been
revered for his succinct insights on matters of society. He
developed the philosophy of utilitarianism, which remains a subject
of serious study to this day. This compilation contains four
principle works by Mill: On Liberty - the classic essay by Mill,
and his most known. In this treatise Mill attempts to reconcile the
need for civilized control and authority with the human need for
personal liberty and expression. Individuality is, according to
Mill, precursor to many of the higher pleasures of existence - a
just society must therefore make provisions for such to occur,
while remaining sufficiently ordered.
Certainely, we live in a new century. Unfortunately, everywhere on
our planet, humankind betrays a widespread distressing situation,
confusion, perplexity, a lack of contact with the idea of
civilization. The author believes that we have dragged the
drawbacks of past centuries behind us and that we should reevaluate
the sources of values.
This compilation contains three of the most revered and celebrated
texts by the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius. The Analects of
Confucius were penned during the Warring States period of Chinese
antiquity, which saw great social upheaval between the various
realms of the Middle Kingdom. Divided into twenty principle
chapters (called books) - the subjects range from wise behaviour in
times of crisis to general instruction upon how to live a peaceful
life characterised by a serene mood, humility to others, and
quality work performed well. The Great Learning: One of the classic
four books of ancient Confucianism consists of a short initial
commentary attributed to Confucius himself, followed by a lengthier
tract written by one of his disciples named Zengzi. Another classic
book of Confucian thought, The Doctrine of the Mean, is a practical
guide for those aspiring to sublime wisdom. It demonstrates how a
balanced, harmonious manner of living is the most conducive to joy
and satisfaction.
The original Swedish edition of this book appeared in 2004.
Halsopromotion i Arbetslivet] It has gained a place of central
importance in the scientific literature for educational courses in
Public Health and Health promotion. In order to meet current
international interest in the salutogenic perspective in Workplace
Health Promotion, the original text of the book has now been
directly translated into English. The aim of the book is to
describe health promotion as an idea, an area of knowledge and a
strategy for healthpromoting work primarily in working life. The
idea of salutogenesis and Aaron Antonovsky's theory of a sense of
coherence (SOC) form important starting points for the book. A
conceptual model is derived from the international tradition of
Health Promotion and Workplace Health Promotion, which can serve as
a guide for the work of health promotion in various settings. The
book is theoretical in character but it is also written with an eye
to providing support in the practical application of health
promotion work.
A glad heart lights up the face, but by mental anguish the spirit
is broken." Proverbs 15:13 (NAB) Out of the Darkness tells the
intimate details of one woman's struggle through a 21 year verbally
and emotionally abusive relationship. "Just because someone seems
to have the perfect marriage or life, doesn't always mean that's
what their life really is like. Sometimes, those are the people who
are hurting the most. Just as you don't know what goes on behind
closed doors in their life, they don't know what's going on in
yours." Insight is offered on how and when she realized it was time
to get out of the relationship and what it took to walk out of the
darkness; to overcome and move on to a new and amazing life.
This book on evangelism is careful to define and to describe
evangelism in spiritual, practical, and meaningful way that can be
helpful to anyone who has a genuine interest in evangelism as a
ministry or topic of interest. The research model is one that can
be replicated and/or adjusted to work efficiently in various
congregations regardless to their size and location in interurban,
urban, suburban or rural communities. The book offers us a way to
win the lost, and how to reconcile the marginalized members of our
communities. The book employs various effective methods,
techniques, and tools that can be useful to the Church - Body of
Christ and its leaders as they seek to fulfill Christ Jesus' great
commission: ..".make disciples." Rev. Dr. Tony Curtis Henderson
This dissertation consists of a philological and philosophical
exploration of the Guiguzi . It establishes the sinological
background of the text through a detailed contextual study and
locates Master Guigu in the Chinese intellectual tradition. Guiguzi
is the legendary transmitter of the Sunzi bingfa ("Art of War")
tradition, said to have bestowed his text upon Sun Bin. The
research reveals that the Book of Master Guigu conceives a
comprehensive "art of persuasion" by promoting an unassuaging
efficacy within an early Daoist cosmological framework. [Hardcover
