This complete collection of Ralph Waldo Emerson's essays offers the
towering wisdom and intellectual prowess of the author in
hardcover. This edition contains both series of Emerson's most
famous essays, filled with quotable passages concerning different
aspects of life. Herein are texts such as Nature and The Oversoul,
free of embellishments or abridgment. Owing to their unique style,
the essays of Ralph Waldo Emerson have found an appreciative and
enduring audience. Seen by many as the guiding light for the
individualist philosophy that was to underpin the astonishing
growth of the United States, Emerson's essays are a superb
demonstration of the rigorous thought and intellectual
contributions he made to the world around him. Ralph Waldo Emerson
was a tireless and diligent public intellectual who would deliver
over 1500 lectures over the course of his career, educating
thousands of people within academia and wider society about his
beliefs, principles and personal philosophy.
The book introduces concepts on a wide range of materials and has
several advantages over existing texts, including: 1. The
presentation of a series of scientific postulates and laws of RF
and microwaves, which lay the foundation for the behavior of waves
and their propagation on transmission lines, is unique to this book
compared with similar RF and Microwave texts.2. The presentation of
classical laws and principles of electricity and magnetism, all
inter-related, conceptually and graphically.3. There is a shift of
emphasis from rigorous mathematical solutions of Maxwell's
equations, and instead has been aptly placed on simple yet
fundamental concepts that underlie these equations. This shift of
emphasis will promote a deeper understanding of the electronics,
particularly at RF/Microwave frequencies.4. Wave propagation in
free space and tramsmission lines has been amply treated from a
totally new standpoint. Designing RF/Microwave passive circuits
using the Smith Chart as covered in this book becomes a systematic
and yet pleasant task, which can easily be duplicated by any
practitioner in the field.5. New technical terms are precisely
defined as they are first introduced, thereby keeping the subject
matter in focus and preventing misunderstanding, and 6. Finally the
abundant use of graphical illustrations and diagrams brings a great
deal of clarity and conceptual understanding, enabling difficult
concepts to be understood with ease. The fundamentals of RF and
microwave electronics can be mastered visually, through many tested
practical examples in the book and in the accompanying CD using
Microsoft Excel environment. This book is perfect for RF/microwave
newcomers or industry veterans The material is presented lucidly
and effectively through worked practical examples using both
clear-cut math and vivid illustrations, which help the reader gain
practical knowledge in passive circuit design using the Smith
Chart.
Many who have a passing interest in English history know of the
kings: the Lancastrian usurper, Henry IV; the great warrior-king,
Henry V; and the monkish monarch, Henry VI. Some also know of the
fair Yorkist king, Edward IV, and his fated son, Edward V - the
Prince in the Tower. Many more know of the Yorkist usurper, Richard
III, and his Tudor nemesis, the last Lancastrian claimant, Henry
VII. But what about the other key individuals of fifteenth century
England?
Most have heard of the "Kingmaker," even if they forget that he
was Sir Richard de Neville, Earl of Warwick. But who was Little
Fauconberg? Who was Hotspur, and how did he get his nickname? Who
were the Beauforts, illegitimate descendents of Edward III (through
his son, John of Gaunt), and how did they impact the history of
England so significantly? Who was the "Butcher of England" and how
did such an erudite and sophisticated man earn such an inglorious
title? Why was Sir Richard de Beauchamp, also an Earl of Warwick,
called the "Father of Courtesy" and the "Son of Chivalry"? What
brought the educated and wealthy Owain Glyn Dwr, the last Welsh
Prince of Wales, to the point of rebellion? Was Queen Margaret the
"she-wolf of Anjou," or just a fiercely devoted wife and mother?
Was Sir Richard Plantagenet, Duke of York, the guardian of good
government, or a self-serving, aristocratic snob bent on snatching
the throne of England? Who was the "English Achilles," how did he
earn such a sobriquet, and how did his end mark the ending of the
Hundred Years War? Who were the Nevilles and the Percys, and how
did a minor family feud start the Wars of the Roses? Who were the
other squires, knights, barons, earls, and dukes that contributed
so much to the history of fifteenth century England, but who seem
mostly forgotten today?
Come, plumb the depths of the people of that far gone time. For
the answers all lie within these pages. Within is a brief biography
of many of the more important personages, regardless of
aristocratic rank. Included are parents, spouses, children, and
other familial relationships, plus titles and offices, family
coats-of-arms, and where readily available, family badges, livery,
and battle standards. To further enrich the background, some
supplemental sections have been added. These include a glossary of
titles and offices, definition of selected heraldic terms, and a
brief timeline of fifteenth century England.

obscure words in the English language.
Although D. H. Lawrence is justly celebrated as the author of such
seminal novels as The Rainbow, Sons and Lovers, Women in Love, The
Plumed Serpent, and Lady Chatterley's Lover, he also produced a
considerable body of poetry, collected together in a thousand-page
volume in 1928. The overall quality of the writer's verse is
superb. It is permeated with the Lawrencean voice, the incandescent
language, the recurrent symbology, the sense of wonder at nature,
the subtle portrayals of human relationships, and the metaphysical
thrust. Mackey provides the first lengthy examination of Lawrence's
poems. Complete with Chronology, Bibliography, and Index.
This book gives a brief account of the background to the dual land
tenure system in force in Sierra Leone and explains the reasons why
the dualism derived from the different colonial experience of the
former Colony and Protectorate of Sierra Leone still persists
almost fifty years after the two entities were merged to form a
unitary State of Sierra Leone. The book gives an account, for the
benefit of both law students and legal practitioners, of the main
features of the English derived land law in the Western Area and of
the forms of land holding in the Provinces which are governed
predominately by customary law. The book also highlights the
practical problems that legal practitioners may be confronted with
in advising clients wanting to enter into transactions involving
land in Sierra Leone and in drafting legal documents for the
creation or transfer of interests in land in different parts of the
country. By giving an account of developments relating to policy
initiatives and by laying bare the achievements and shortcomings of
land tenure reform to date, the book aims to stimulate debate on
current proposals for reform not only among law students and
practitioners of the law but also among policy makers and members
of the wider non-legal community It offers a brief but constructive
criticism of the dual land tenure system and offers some proposals
for reform of the system changes in the light of stated policies.
The seed of an idea, after years of discussion, exploration of
options, and the honing of possibilities, finally burst into the
flower of a vision for a new style of living for retirement years.
The vision became reality in the form of a village on the edge of
town in Greenwood, Indiana when financing, space and leadership
came together. It was the only retirement community of its kind.
There was no model, nor prototype to follow. Here you will read
about the roller coaster ride that has brought Greenwood Village
South from seed to sunlight.
Different events in communication and information in today's
society have highlighted the significant role that research plays
in these two fields of the social sciences. Therefore, it is
essential to determine how the efficacy of research can be enhanced
at various levels, especially at the academic level. Of primary
relevance in this is research connected to communication, both
human-to-human and through media, and interactions with information
sources. There exists a need for a resource for communications and
information science researchers to enhance the effectiveness,
impact, and visibility of research. Cases on Developing Effective
Research Plans for Communications and Information Science provides
relevant frameworks for research in communications and information
science. It elaborates on the strategic role of research at
different levels of the information and communication society.
Covering topics such as audience research, literary reading
mediation, and social science theses, this case book is an
excellent resource for libraries and librarians, marketing
managers, communications professionals, students and educators of
higher education, faculty and administration of higher education,
government officials, researchers, and academicians.
