This book introduces readers to the main types of corporate sustainability practices. The first section examines both the ratings provided by international agencies and the various ESG (Environmental, Social and Government) indexes existing at 2021. In turn, the second part empirically investigates the relationship between the level of corporate sustainability and corporate financial performance among the large companies listed on the Milan Exchange FTSE-MIB 40 index for 2015-2019. The book offers a comprehensive overview of current sustainability concepts and practices and illustrates how various companies are seeking to integrate them in their competitive strategy. Further, it fills a gap in the extant literature by analysing the origins, historical evolution and structure of the main rating agencies and ESG indexes. In addition, the empirical analysis of corporate sustainability's impact on companies' financial performance reveals the importance of collegial leadership - a commonly found feature of Italian family businesses that has not been considered in previous studies - as a moderating factor for reconciling sustainability initiatives and performance at family-run firms.

The Answer to Global Overload Contending with the 24/7 news cycle and an endless barrage of choices and information has stymied leadership and decision-making strategies among those at the top. But we all know, this is not a just a problem for the elite. The broad-based reaction to this chaotic, unmanageable assault has been to retrench, and to focus on immediate, controllable decisions. In the process, we lose sight of the horizon. More dangerous still, is the shift we've seen from "value" creation to "wealth" creation, where information technology 1.0 has enabled a transaction-based society in which the "deal" is more important than the value it drives or the relationships it is based on. On our current path, the odds of a better future are slim. What we need is a new value proposition. "Beating the Global Odds "is the answer to the dangers of too much of a good thing. There's no going back, but there is the opportunity to set things right. In this book, Paul A. Laudicina, Managing Partner and Chairman of the Board of global consulting firm A.T. Kearney, provides a fast-paced and engaging tour of how we got to this point and what we can do about it. Drawing on examples from everything from world history and current media to anecdotes from his vast network of CEOs and the world's most innovative thinkers, Laudicina helps bring our world of seemingly fuzzy and disconnected pixels into sharp focus. The result is a compelling case for change and call to action--not only for global leaders but also for everyone who struggles with the question of how we can inspire and seize a better future... how we can beat the global odds.
Reviews of A Modern Approach to Graham and Dodd Investing "What happened in the market? What lies ahead? Investors should
be required to read Tom Au's A Modern Approach to Graham and Dodd
Investing. Tom delivers a commonsense road map for baby boomer
professional and individual investors navigating the treacherous
investment waters. This is the best investment book I have read in
twenty-three years." "Many times I've found myself reading through investment
classics, wishing that they were more relevant to our present
world; the information companies report, market conditions, today's
business culture, and the expectations modern stock investors have
developed based on a large set of alternative investment choices.
Finally, my wish, and those of other investors who've felt the
same, has been granted by Thomas Au and his soon-to-be classic, A
Modern Approach to Graham and Dodd Investing." "In an age of easy money and easy credit, Thomas Au's A Modern
Approach to Graham and Dodd Investing reminds us that successful
investing is a product of long-term prudent strategies based on
disciplined investment decisions. This work is an excellent and
timely in-depth analysis on value investing which is a must read,
particularly during these volatile financial times." "This is an informative, readable book that presents a
comprehensive framework for practitioners of deep value investing.
Thomas Au, a proven investor in the value world, shows that the
principles of value investing can be applied to a broad rangeof
investment issues from analyzing the key line items on the
corporate balance sheet to international investing and dynamic
asset allocation. Au's underlying message is that value investors
have long time horizons, both in looking back at historical
precedents and in looking forward, well beyond the next quarterly
earnings report. Most importantly, the book is filled with
real-time, real-world examples where Au applied the value approach
to construct a winning portfolio. Au is gold!" "A refreshing look at the methods for ensuring a margin of
safety in one's investments developed by one of the true masters.
Sadly, in this liquidity-driven bubble market, investors have once
again lost their way. This book will grow in acknowledgement as
today's stock market 'sheep' are once again led to their slaughter
for having ignored such wisdom." "Tom Au's update of Graham and Dodd's security analysis is a
must read for any serious investor. With the technology bubble
behind us, investors have come back to the proven principles of
value investing. Tom has put together a powerful framework for
value investing in the twenty-first century."

Transfer pricing is considered a new and complex concept in terms of guidelines and regulations. In this context, more and more academics and tax professionals are interested in understanding the mechanism of a transfer pricing analysis. The main objective of the book is to help them in this process by presenting in a practical approach (using case studies and schemes) and in accordance with the OECD Transfer Pricing Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises and Tax Administrations the way in which are operating the basic transfer pricing elements. Moreover, considering that the manufacturing sector is the chief wealth-producing sector of the global economy, the book illustrates complete transfer pricing analyses applicable for manufacturing transactions (using Orbis database). In the end, the book presents some recent disputes between manufacturing entities and tax authorities in relation to the transfer pricing analysis for manufacturing transactions. Monetary and exchange rate policies of national monetary authorities, together with certain of their consequences, provide the common theme for the studies in this volume. Four of the contributions are mainly concerned with exchange rate policy-decisions to alter fixed parities, intervention by central banks in foreign exchange markets, and the determinants of exchange rates including intervention and the degree of capital mobility. Two studies are oriented to aspects of domestic monetary policy, one examining policy reactions of French monetary authorities, the other concerning the choice of monetary aggregate target as a politically motivated strategy to assign responsibility for macroeconomic outcomes and thus influence the behaviour of decision makers in the macroeconomic policy making process. One contribution investigates the factors that influence the choice of currency in foreign trade, an important factor in determining the importance for exchange market stability of capital movements, and perhaps official intervention. The studies present significant theoretical and empirical results as well as the institutional material.
As investment capital has shown increasing disregard for national boundaries, the flow of information on financial markets has become both more complex and more problematic. At the same time, the speed with which markets now respond to events and financial conditions in all parts of the world makes accurate, up-to-the-moment information a crucial element in the investment and accounting picture. This book explores some of the most important effects of information on world financial markets. Written by an international group of specialists, it takes the form of a dialogue. Each of the five chapters dealing with specific topics is followed by the comments of another writer who offers a slightly different perspective. The first chapter examines the effect of enhanced public disclosure on the welfare of participants in the marketplace. The second chapter provides a framework for analyzing the effects of the globalization of information, particularly the ways in which it influences rates of real interest among countries. Subjects addressed in the chapters that follow include compensating for imperfect information in foreign currency investment and the impact of financial forecasts on stock prices. An authoritative treatment that clarifies some of the most complex issues surrounding the globalization of capital investment, this book will be of particular value to international financial analysts and investment advisers. |
