Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks (Hardcover): Youcef Touati, Boubaker Daachi, Ali Cherif Arab Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks (Hardcover)
Youcef Touati, Boubaker Daachi, Ali Cherif Arab
R1,816 Discovery Miles 18 160 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Energy Management in Wireless Sensor Networks discusses this unavoidable issue in the application of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). To guarantee efficiency and durability in a network, the science must go beyond hardware solutions and seek alternative software solutions that allow for better data control from the source to delivery. Data transfer must obey different routing protocols, depending on the application type and network architecture. The correct protocol should allow for fluid information flow, as well as optimizing power consumption and resources - a challenge faced by dense networks. The topics covered in this book provide answers to these needs by introducing and exploring computer-based tools and protocol strategies for low power consumption and the implementation of routing mechanisms which include several levels of intervention, ranging from deployment to network operation.

Additionally, due to their low implementation complexity and excellent delay-performance, they authors show how they are also well-suited for practical M2M systems. The book pertains primarily to real-time process scheduler experts in industry/academia and graduate students whose research deals with designing Quality-of-Service-aware packet schedulers for M2M packet schedulers over existing and future cellular infrastructure. Presents queuing theoretic analysis and optimization techniques used to design proposed packet scheduling strategies; Provides utility functions to precisely model diverse delay requirements, which lends itself to formulation of utility-maximization problems for determining the delay- or utility-optimal packet scheduler; Includes detail on low implementation complexity of the proposed scheduler by using iterative and distributed optimization techniques.

Two of the most vibrant applications areas of network models are telecommunications and transportation. Several chapters explicitly model issues arising in these problem domains. Research on network models has been closely aligned with the field of computer science both in developing data structures for efficiently implementing network algorithms and in analyzing the complexity of network problems and algorithms. The basic structure underlying all network problems is a graph. Thus, historically, there have been strong ties between network models and graph theory. A companion volume in the "Handbook" series, entitled "Network Routing", examines problems related to the movement of commodities over a network. The problems treated arise in several application areas including logistics, telecommunications, facility location, VLSI design, and economics.

Energy Efficient Spectrum Resources Usage in WPANs - IEEE 82.15.4 MAC Sub-layer Protocols (Hardcover): Luis Miguel Borges,... Energy Efficient Spectrum Resources Usage in WPANs - IEEE 82.15.4 MAC Sub-layer Protocols (Hardcover)
Luis Miguel Borges, Norberto Barroca, Periklis Chatzimisios, Fernando Jose Velez
R2,861 Discovery Miles 28 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) and the Internet of Things are facing tremendous advances both in terms of energy-efficiency as well as in the number of available applications. Consequently, there are challenges that need to be tackled for the future generation of WSNs. After giving an overview of the WSN protocols and IEEE 802.15.4 standard, this book proposes IEEE 802.15.4 Medium Access Control (MAC) sub-layer performance enhancements by employing not only RTS/CTS combined with packet concatenation but also scheduled channel poling (MC-SCP). Results have shown that the use of the RTS/CTS mechanism improves channel efficiency by decreasing the deferral time before transmitting a data packet. Furthermore, the Sensor Block Acknowledgment MAC (SBACK-MAC) protocol enables more efficiency as it allows the aggregation of several acknowledgement responses in one special Block Acknowledgment (BACK) Response packet. The throughput and delay performance have been mathematically derived under both ideal conditions (a channel environment with no transmission errors) and non-ideal conditions (with transmission errors). Simulation results successfully validate the proposed analytical models. This research reveals the importance of an appropriate design for the MAC sub-layer protocol for the desired WSN application. Depending on the mission of the WSN application, different protocols are required. Therefore, the overall performance of a WSN application certainly depends on the development and application of suitable e.g., MAC, network layer protocols.
