On a remote island off Cornwall, a man persuades his illegitimate
son to masquerade as his half-sister in order to get their hands on
her inheritance. The story revolves around the effect this has on
the boy and how it leads him to a bold exploration of his sexuality
in the context of a repressed Victorian society, and the
repercussions that follow for all who cross his path ...
Often this world seems like a nightmare. Human trafficking, young
girls trapped in brothels, child soldiers forced to become killers,
unchecked plagues and diseases, economic injustice and the
oppression of the poor. Millions around the world are trapped in
this nightmare, and we may feel helpless to do anything about it.
But God has a dream. York Moore paints a vivid picture of how the
dream of God is breaking into history to make all things new.
Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God is bringing an end
to the world's nightmare of sin and death. Scripture's vision of
Jesus' end-time work shows how the wrongs will be made right, and
God's just judgment is good news for the world. Unpacking how the
Bible describes the last things, Moore shows how we can partner
with God as he brings his dream to reality. Every time a well is
dug for a community, food is provided for the hungry or sex
traffickers are brought to justice, the dream begins to take hold.
This is no mere wishful thinking. The dream of God is more real
than your dreams could ever imagine. It is what we were created
for. So wake up from the nightmare and join in what God is doing in
the world. And flourish as your own dreams are transformed by God's
dream for all creation.

It's not every day that you get a visit from God. Burning bushes,
ladders to heaven, chariots of fire and all that--we look for those
stories in the Bible, and we look for them in our lives. When it
comes to something as important as what we do with our lives, we
think, maybe God owes us a big event. But, as Leroy Barber has
learned through his work in inner cities and with young people,
that's not usually how it works. More often God calls out to us
from everyday misfortunes and all-too-common injustices, and he
invites our response--not just a response in the moment, but a
recognition that we have a role to play in seeing God's kingdom
come, God's will done, on earth as it is in heaven. Through the
surprisingly normal stories of the heroes of faith in the Bible,
and through Barber's experiences with Mission Year and other
ministries, in this book you'll learn what it means to change the
world from your own little space in it.
In Reading Scripture with the Reformers, Timothy George takes
readers through the exciting events of the sixteenth century,
showing how this dynamic period was instigated by a fresh return to
the Scriptures. George immerses us in the world of the Reformation,
its continuities with the ancient and medieval church, and its
dramatic upheavals and controversies. Most of all, he uncovers the
significant way that the Bible shaped the minds and hearts of the
reformers. This book shows how the key figures of the Reformation
read and interpreted Scripture, and how their thought was shaped by
what they read. We are invited to see what the church today can
learn from the fathers of the Reformation, and how these figures
offer a model of reading, praying and living out the Scriptures.
An Acclaimed Guide to Understanding Today's Muslim, Completely
Updated Carl Medearis provides new insights into the top questions
people have about Muslims and Islam. With practical information and
fascinating stories, he shares culturally sensitive ways for
Christians to get to know Muslims on a personal level. In this
updated and expanded edition, Medearis shares * How more and more
Muslims live "right next door," and how we can overcome the growing
level of misinformation and fear * The roots of modern-day jihad
and how recent developments in the Middle East affect the West * A
new chapter answering tough questions about terrorism, Christian
converts, and other key topics Medearis shows how common ground is
the best foundation for hearts turning to Jesus rather than
focusing initially on the differences between Islam and
Christianity.
What is ID? Why is it controversial? Intelligent design is
surrounded by a storm of debate. Proponents and opponents have both
sought to have their voices heard above the din. Is it
unscientific? Is it a danger to real Christian faith? Is it trying
to smuggle God into the classroom? Controversy can create confusion
rather than clarity. So here to clear things up is Bill Dembski,
one of the founders of intelligent design, who joins with Jonathan
Witt to answer these questions and more. They plainly lay out just
what intelligent design is and is not. They answer objections with
straight talk that is down to earth. You'll be surprised at how
often smart people have misrepresented ID. You might be surprised
to see exactly how they respond to what turns out to be misleading
arguments. Here is the book to make you intelligent about the whole
fuss

In a business world predominantly oriented toward the future, it
has paradoxically become ever more common that companies turn
towards their pasts. This book empirically explores the phenomenon
of organizational remembrance from a holistic cultural perspective.
Based on a twelve-month ethnographic case study conducted at the
headquarters of the German automobile company, AUDI AG, this study
dissects the relationships between memory, identity, and image in a
corporate setting. The greater aim in doing so is twofold: First,
this study examines exactly why and how a company officially
manages its past in terms of 'history' and 'tradition.' And second,
this study scrutinizes what effect organizational remembrance has
on the workforce - how it impacts their collective identification
with a corporate community and influences their understanding of
their daily working life. By investigating the interplay between
different stakeholder groups, as well as their practices, media,
mental models, and other vehicles of remembrance, an integrated
account is offered which makes sense of the complex cultural forces
at work in the corporate handling of the past, the present, and the
future.

father, it may feel like every aspect of life is affected by that
broken trust. Even your relationship with God can feel tenuous, but

Stephens shares her own story of father wounds, along with
eye-opening examples from wounded women in Scripture who were

you identify your father wounds and offers practical tools to help
you overcome insecurity, low self-esteem, perfectionism, and
trouble connecting with God as your loving heavenly father. Take
heart. Your father wounds do not have the last word in your life;
God does. With help from Kia and love from God, you can be made
whole again.

'It's impossible to visit Church on the Street and not be deeply
moved by the work the organisation does for those in need. It is an
extraordinary place ... 'HRH THE PRINCE OF WALES, from the Foreword
'There are so few people like Pastor Mick that this book deserves a
shelf all to itself.' JEREMY VINE, BROADCASTER AND JOURNALIST An
autobiography that is fast-paced, stirring and a powerful testament
to the love of God, Blown Away tells the story of Pastor Mick
Fleming. No conventional clergyman, Pastor Mick led a life of crime
and addiction before being called by God to become a Christian
minister. Brutally raped as a child, he was about to confide in his
parents when the dreadful news came that his sister had died of a
sudden heart-attack. Mick didn't cry again for 30 years, masking
his pain with drink and drugs and working as notorious underworld
fixer - until the day a revelation of faith unravelled his world,
and he found himself utterly 'blown away'. Here he relates his
incredible journey from hardened criminal to discovering who he
truly is in Christ; from helping to destroy lives through drug
dealing, to helping others and saving lives through selflessly
serving those in poverty. Laying bare his struggles in full for the
first time, including a failed attempt at suicide, Pastor Mick
tells how sharing his pain has helped others who are suffering.
Since that first call that set him on the road to becoming a
Christian minister he has seen miracles happen - including being
able not only to forgive, but to help, the man who ruined his life.
Blown Away is a thought-provoking and inspiring Christian
autobiography that offers insight into the violent underworld of
crime, addiction and substance abuse in the UK and reveals the
extraordinary power of faith, forgiveness and redemption. Pastor
Mick's story will move and inspire you on your own faith journey,
and offer hope to those struggling with addiction, grief and
suffering. Told with raw honesty and full of warmth and humanity,
Blown Away is an amazing example of how God can help those even in
the darkest places.
Would you ever try to drive from New York to Chicago by heading for
Miami? Of course not. We all know that to get to a desired
destination we have to take the right road. The same thing is true
of trying to get to heaven, yet many believe that all religions
lead to God. The Bible radically disagrees: - Jesus said, "I am the
way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me."1 - The early church leader, Peter, clearly proclaimed
that "There is salvation in no one else [but Jesus], for there is
no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be
saved. "2 He spoke those words despite the very real risk of death
by the same religious leaders who had crucified Christ weeks
before! - The apostle Paul, author of several New Testament books
of the Bible, wrote that "There is one God, and there is one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave
himself as a ransom for all."3 - And one of Christ's disciples,
John, wrote without apology, "Whoever has the Son has life; whoever
does not have the Son of God does not have life."4 The Bible, God's
book, makes it clear that apart from Christ there is absolutely no
way to the Father and no eternal life in heaven to look forward to.
Other religions offer systems of thought that try to cross the gap
between man and God, but Jesus is the only one who has bridged that
divide. Christ said that "the gate is wide and the way is easy that
leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many," but only
those who take the narrow way, via Jesus Christ, find eternal
life.5 Jesus' exclusive claims Jesus claimed: "I am the way." Jesus
does not merely show the way; he is the only way to God. He spans
the otherwise unreachable distance between a righteous God and
unrighteous sinners--us! Jesus claimed: "I am the truth." Truth
implies an objective standard that does not change with the whims
of time or culture. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today
and forever."6 Come to Jesus, and "you will know the truth, and the
truth will set you free."7 Jesus claimed: "I am the life." We are
spiritually dead without Jesus but become spiritually alive when we
believe fully in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and never-ending
life. As the Bible says, "Whoever believes in him [Jesus, God's
Son] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned
already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of
God."8 Christ's resurrection from the dead was the absolute proof
that he was, indeed, the Son of God and the Author of life that
conquers the enemy of mankind--death. Rising from the dead proved
Jesus had paid the price of our sin then conquered death itself.
Before he returned to heaven he met with over 500 of his followers
to leave final instructions and encouragement (1 Corinthians
15:1-9) Apart from Jesus there is no way to be saved. You cannot
get to heaven on your own, not even by jumping through religious
hoops. The only way to reach God is to believe in Jesus who gave
his life in place of ours: "Christ also suffered once for sins, the
righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God."9
Jesus is the way that must be taken, the truth that must be
believed, and the life that must be trusted in. Will you believe in
the only one who can bring you to God? Place your belief in Christ
today. He promises, "whoever comes to me I will never cast out."10
If that is the sincere desire of your heart, you can use this
prayer as a guide for your own words... Lord, I confess that I have
sinned against you often. And I admit that I deserve to be punished
for the wrongs I have done. But I believe that when Jesus died, he
paid the penalty for my sins. I now ask you to forgive me and to
make me a new person from the inside out. Amen. Bible references:
