"'Srulik, there's no time. I want you to remember what I'm going to
tell you. You have to stay alive. You have to! Get someone to teach
you how to act like a Christian, how to cross yourself and pray. .
. . The most important thing, Srulik, ' he said, talking fast, 'is
to forget your name. Wipe it from your memory. . . . But even if
you forget everything--even if you forget me and Mama--never forget
that you're a Jew.'"

Here we explore a range of activities from ice-skating to rock climbing. Contains full teaching support including learning outcomes, curriculum links and follow-up activities.
Curious George goes to a dog show and comes home with the winning contestants. When George becomes curious about how many dogs are in the apartment, he devises a clever way to find out. This early reader explores the concepts of counting and grouping.
A 2014 Theodor Seuss Geisel Honor Book A dog with a ball is one of the most relentlessly hopeful creatures on Earth. After his best little-girl pal leaves for school, this dog hits up yoga mom, baby, and even the angry cat for a quick throw. No luck. Forced to go solo, the dog begins a hilarious one-sided game of fetch until naptime's wild, ball-centric dream sequence. The pictures speak a thousand words in this comic book-style ode to canine monomania. Ball? Ball.
Category Description for Kumon Math Workbooks (1-6):
The series is meant to be self-directed. Students take charge of their own learning on every level. They complete pages, check their work, record their scores, and determine whether to move on or review. The pace almost guarantees success. Children should work a "few" pages a day; assignments should take about 20 minutes to complete. Pages are marked with the skill level required at top and the points each question is valued at (a very young child will need some help totaling points). Very short instruction (or an example) is given on a few pages. For example, there is a short explanation when children begin to subtract a 2-digit number from a 3-digit number where borrowing is needed. However, the child is given every opportunity to intuit this beforehand. By the time he reaches this page, he has already been subtracting double-digit numbers for many pages. Some of these would require borrowing, but, since they are able to subtract, say, 7 from 12, the Kumon method wants the child to see a pattern when increasing to 7 from 22, 7 from 32, etc. This does remind me of the approach used in Miquon as well. Besides these very infrequent helps there are just some small prompts for children to look for patterns in their answers, and words of encouragement. Pages are pleasing to the eye; they are colored, clean, and problems are well-spaced. The Kumon method has been used successfully with children around the world for over 50 years. It does seem like it would help a child to take charge of his own learning and help himself to understanding rather than being spoon-fed each bite. For Kumon math earlier than Grade 1, see the Kumon section in Early Learning.

And This Little Piggy Had None: Challenging the Dominant Discourse on Farmed Animals in Children's Picturebooks is a fascinating critique of how "farm" animals are represented in children's literature. Drawing from the fields of critical animal studies, critical discourse analysis, and animal behavior research, Janae Dimick questions the validity of these representations as environmental, societal, and other negative effects related to factory farming emerge. Questioning the socially constructed categories that humans use to classify which animals are used for consumption and which are meant for companionship, the book works to dismantle the "truth" of what children learn from the informational texts that are read to them in educational and home settings. The first of its kind, this book will make readers question their relationship with nonhuman animals and rethink how language creates narratives that ultimately act to the detriment of humans, nature, and animals. Students studying critical pedagogy, ecolinguistics, ecopedagogy, early childhood literacy, ecocriticism, bioethics, critical animal studies, environmental studies and education, and human-animal studies would benefit from reading this easily accessible text.

When night falls, everything is dark. Or is it? The moon shines with a pale light. A car drives along the street, and when its headlights flash, we see two bright dots run by. Is it a cat? Or perhaps a fox? If we stand still for a moment, our eyes will adjust to the darkness. We can see twinkling stars in the sky, and sometimes even the bright belt of stars called the Milky Way. The night contains both light and darkness. Come on a journey and visit the dark forest, the deep ocean and the shadows of the city, and discover everything that's glows, glitters and shines in the night!
