The Science of Getting Rich (Hardcover): Wallace D. Wattles The Science of Getting Rich (Hardcover)
Wallace D. Wattles
R635 Discovery Miles 6 350 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

BUSINESS / SELF-HELP " Wattles offers techniques for getting in tune with one' s deeper self and thus creating a channel of communication between oneself and universal energy. His is a gentle philosophy that excludes competition, cheating, and lording it over one' s fellows when one has made it, and encourages cooperation." --Publisher' s Weekly In his bestselling book, Wallace D. Wattles explains that " universal mind" underlies and permeates all creation. Through the process of visualization, we can engage the law of attraction--impressing our thoughts upon " formless substance" and bringing the desired object or circumstances into material form. The author emphasizes the critical importance of attitude: only by aligning ourselves with the positive forces of natural law can we gain unlimited access to the creative mind and its abundant rewards. The Science of Getting Rich holds the secret to how economic and emotional security can be achieved in a practical, imaginative, and noncompetitive way, while maintaining a loving and harmonious relationship with all of life. By living in accordance with the positive principles outlined in this book, we can find our rightful place in the cosmic scheme and create for ourselves an environment in which to grow in wealth, wisdom, and happiness.WALLACE DELOIS WATTLES (1860-1911) was the author of numerous books, the best known of which is The Science of Getting Rich. He experienced failure after failure in his early life until after many years of study and experimentation he formulated a set of principles that, with scientific precision, create financial and spiritual wealth. He died a prosperousman in 1911.

Regulating the Takeover of Chinese Listed Companies - Divergence from the West (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Juan Chen Regulating the Takeover of Chinese Listed Companies - Divergence from the West (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Juan Chen
R2,675 Discovery Miles 26 750 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides a comprehensive review of the Measures for Administration of Takeover of Chinese Listed Companies (the Chinese takeover law), with emphasis on the differences between the Chinese takeover law and takeover legislation in the UK, the US and Hong Kong. The Chinese M&A market has been booming at an unprecedented rate in recent years; not only domestic investors, but also foreign funds and multinational companies are actively participating on the market. For both market participants and researchers, it is crucial to understand the emerging and transitional aspects of the Chinese economy and its M&A market, and the impacts of those aspects on relevant laws. While there are ongoing academic discussions on the convergence between the Chinese takeover law and its counterparts in the UK, Hong Kong and the US, this book offers a comprehensive discussion of the divergence and focuses on key differences in the transplanted Chinese takeover law.

Economic Foundations for Social Complexity Science - Theory, Sentiments, and Empirical Laws (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017): Yuji... Economic Foundations for Social Complexity Science - Theory, Sentiments, and Empirical Laws (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017)
Yuji Aruka, Alan Kirman
R3,154 Discovery Miles 31 540 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book focuses on how important massive information is and how sensitive outcomes are to information. In this century humans now are coming up against the massive utilization of information in various contexts. The advent of super intelligence is drastically accelerating the evolution of the socio-economic system. Our traditional analytic approach must therefore be radically reformed in order to adapt to an information-sensitive framework, which means giving up myopic purification and the elimination of all considerations of massive information. In this book, authors who have shared and exchanged their ideas over the last 20 years, offer thorough examinations of the theoretical-ontological basis of complex economic interaction, econophysics, and agent-based modeling during the last several decades. This book thus provides the indispensable philosophical-scientific foundations for this new approach, and then moves on to empirical-epistemological studies concerning changes in sentiments and other movements in financial markets.

Equivalence in Financial Services - A Legal and Policy Analysis (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022): Francesco Pennesi Equivalence in Financial Services - A Legal and Policy Analysis (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Francesco Pennesi
R3,665 Discovery Miles 36 650 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Equivalence in Financial Services offers a comprehensive and cross-industry examination of the rules and procedures under EU financial legislation dedicated to third-country market actors. The equivalence regime has become particularly topical after Brexit, as the United Kingdom is now a third country from the perspective of the European Union. This book investigates whether the current equivalence system is fit for its purpose, namely facilitating cross-border finance while minimizing as extensively as possible financial risks. After describing how the European Commission adopts equivalence measures, the book examines the implementation of the equivalence regime for the following entities: Credit Rating Agencies, Benchmarks, Trading Venues, Investment Firms, Investment Funds, Central Securities Depositories, Trade Repositories, and Central Counterparties. Addressing the most recent policy and legal developments, Equivalence in Financial Services provides an insightful guide into this complex area of financial regulation for scholars of financial regulation, legal practitioners, and policy makers.

Stochastic Simulation and Applications in Finance with MATLAB Programs (Hardcover): HH Huynh Stochastic Simulation and Applications in Finance with MATLAB Programs (Hardcover)
HH Huynh
R2,114 Discovery Miles 21 140 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Stochastic Simulation and Applications in Finance with MATLAB Programs explains the fundamentals of Monte Carlo simulation techniques, their use in the numerical resolution of stochastic differential equations and their current applications in finance. Building on an integrated approach, it provides a pedagogical treatment of the need-to-know materials in risk management and financial engineering. The book takes readers through the basic concepts, covering the most recent research and problems in the area, including: the quadratic re-sampling technique, the Least Squared Method, the dynamic programming and Stratified State Aggregation technique to price American options, the extreme value simulation technique to price exotic options and the retrieval of volatility method to estimate Greeks. The authors also present modern term structure of interest rate models and pricing swaptions with the BGM market model, and give a full explanation of corporate securities valuation and credit risk based on the structural approach of Merton. Case studies on financial guarantees illustrate how to implement the simulation techniques in pricing and hedging. The book also includes an accompanying CD-ROM which provides MATLAB programs for the practical examples and case studies, which will give the reader confidence in using and adapting specific ways to solve problems involving stochastic processes in finance. "This book provides a very useful set of tools for those who are interested in the simulation method of asset pricing and its implementation with MatLab. It is pitched at just the right level for anyone who seeks to learn about this fascinating area of finance. The collection of specific topics thoughtfully selected by the authors, such as credit risk, loan guarantee and value-at-risk, is an additional nice feature, making it a great source of reference for researchers and practitioners. The book is a valuable contribution to the fast growing area of quantitative finance." -Tan Wang, Sauder School of Business, UBC " This book is a good companion to text books on theory, so if you want to get straight to the meat of implementing the classical quantitative finance models here's the answer. " -Paul Wilmott, wilmott.com " This powerful book is a comprehensive guide for Monte Carlo methods in finance. Every quant knows that one of the biggest issues in finance is to well understand the mathematical framework in order to translate it in programming code. Look at the chapter on Quasi Monte Carlo or the paragraph on variance reduction techniques and you will see that Huu Tue Huynh, Van Son Lai and Issouf Soumare have done a very good job in order to provide a bridge between the complex mathematics used in finance and the programming implementation. Because it adopts both theoretical and practical point of views with a lot of applications, because it treats about some sophisticated financial problems (like Brownian bridges, jump processes, exotic options pricing or Longstaff-Schwartz methods) and because it is easy to understand, this handbook is valuable for academics, students and financial engineers who want to learn the computational aspects of simulations in finance. " -Thierry Roncalli, Head of Investment Products and Strategies, SGAM Alternative Investments & Professor of Finance, University of Evry

The Monetary Turning Point - From Bank Money to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2023): Joseph Huber The Monetary Turning Point - From Bank Money to Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2023)
Joseph Huber
R3,968 Discovery Miles 39 680 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The monetary system is at a turning point. The question is no longer if, but how soon countries will roll out a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). This book discusses the recomposition of the money supply from the present bank money regime to a monetary system determined by CBDC. As the book sets out, the future of money is going to be digital and sovereign. Nonetheless, the relationship between the various types of money is competitive rather than being the peaceful coexistence that was officially envisaged. CBDC competes with the incumbent bank money as well as with private cryptocurrencies that are challenging both central-bank money as well as bank money. For technological and political reasons, bank money will not be able to emulate the superior properties of sovereign digital tokens. Uncovered and unwarranted cryptocurrencies, too, will not stand the competition in the long run. The shifts in the monetary system are changing the role of central banks in the interplay of monetary, fiscal and private-creditary functions and open up improved options for monetary policy. The book will be of interest to academics, researchers, and policymakers in monetary and financial economics, and digital currencies.

Pandemic Risk Management in Operations and Finance - Modeling the Impact of COVID-19 (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Desheng Dash... Pandemic Risk Management in Operations and Finance - Modeling the Impact of COVID-19 (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Desheng Dash Wu, David L. Olson
R2,427 Discovery Miles 24 270 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

COVID-19 has spread around the world, causing tremendous structural change, and severely affecting global supply chains and financial operations. As such there is a need for analytic tools help deal with the impact of the pandemic on the world's economies; these tools are not panaceas and certainly won't cure the problems faced, but they offer a means to aid governments, firms, and individuals in coping with specific problems. This book provides an overview of the COVID-19 pandemic and evaluates its effect on financial and supply chain operations. It then discusses epidemic modeling, presenting sources of quantitative and text data, and describing how models are used to illustrate the pandemic impact on supply chains, macroeconomic performance on financial operations. It highlights the specific experiences of the banking system, which offers predictions of the impact on the Swedish banking sector. Further, it examines models related to pandemic planning, such as evaluation of financial contagion, debt risk analysis, and health system efficiency performance, and addresses specific models of pandemic parameters. The book demonstrates various tools using available data on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While it includes some citations, it focuses on describing the methods and explaining how they work, rather than on theory. The data sets and software presented were all selected on the basis of their widespread availability to any reader with computer links.

Burcu Adiguzel Mercangoez
R4,002 Discovery Miles 40 020 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book explains the theoretical structure of particle swarm optimization (PSO) and focuses on the application of PSO to portfolio optimization problems. The general goal of portfolio optimization is to find a solution that provides the highest expected return at each level of portfolio risk. According to H. Markowitz's portfolio selection theory, as new assets are added to an investment portfolio, the total risk of the portfolio's decreases depending on the correlations of asset returns, while the expected return on the portfolio represents the weighted average of the expected returns for each asset. The book explains PSO in detail and demonstrates how to implement Markowitz's portfolio optimization approach using PSO. In addition, it expands on the Markowitz model and seeks to improve the solution-finding process with the aid of various algorithms. In short, the book provides researchers, teachers, engineers, managers and practitioners with many tools they need to apply the PSO technique to portfolio optimization.

Risk Disclosure in the European Banking Industry - Qualitative and Quantitative Content Analysis Methodologies (Hardcover, 1st... Risk Disclosure in the European Banking Industry - Qualitative and Quantitative Content Analysis Methodologies (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Salvatore Polizzi
R2,871 Discovery Miles 28 710 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book analyses the use of qualitative and quantitative content analysis methodologies for risk disclosure practices in the European banking industry. While doing so, it assesses the level of transparency of financial and non-financial reports by focusing on the information disclosed to the public with reference to risk exposure and management. By drawing upon both qualitative and quantitative techniques, the book proposes two different methodological approaches to assess the information European financial institutions provide to the public with reference to the risk disclosure and derivative disclosure in their annual financial reports. These methodologies are subsequently employed to carry out empirical analyses on samples of European banks. By exploiting the points of strength of both qualitative and quantitative content analysis methodologies, this book offers insights into the advantages and disadvantages of these methodologies. The book is a must-read for academics and researchers that analyze disclosure practices of financial and non-financial firms, as well as financial analysts and other practitioners that are interested in assessing the level of transparency and evaluating the disclosures of financial and non-financial firms, especially, but not exclusively, with reference to risk disclosure and derivative disclosure.

Tawhid and Shari'ah - A Transdisciplinary Methodological Enquiry (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020): Masudul Alam Choudhury Tawhid and Shari'ah - A Transdisciplinary Methodological Enquiry (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2020)
Masudul Alam Choudhury
R1,415 Discovery Miles 14 150 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book invokes the Tawhidi ontological foundation of the Qur'anic law and worldview, and is also a study of ta'wil, the esoteric meaning of Qur'anic verses. It presents a comparative analysis between the Tawhidi methodology and the contemporary subject of Shari'ah. Masudul Alam Choudhury brings about a serious criticism of the traditional understanding of Shari'ah as Islamic law contrary to the holistic socio-scientific worldview of the unity of knowledge arising from Tawhid as the law. A bold repudiation of the Islamic traditional understanding and the school of theocracy, Choudhury's critique is in full consonance with the Qur'an and Sunnah. It is critical of the sectarian (madhab) conception of relational independence of facts. Thus the non-creative outlook of Shari'ah contrasts with universality and uniqueness of Tawhid as the analytically established law explaining the monotheistic organic unity of being and becoming in 'everything'. This wide and strict methodological development of the Tawhidi worldview is articulated in this work. The only way that Tawhid and Shari'ah can converge as law is in terms of developing the Tawhidi methodology, purpose and objective of the universal and unique law in consonance with the ontology of Tawhid. Such a convergence in the primal ontological sense of Tawhid is termed as maqasid as-shari'ah al-Tawhid.

A Critical History of Poverty Finance - Colonial Roots and Neoliberal Failures (Hardcover): Nick Bernards A Critical History of Poverty Finance - Colonial Roots and Neoliberal Failures (Hardcover)
Nick Bernards
R2,477 Discovery Miles 24 770 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

'The definitive account of the history of poverty finance' - Susanne Soederberg Finance, mobile and digital technologies - or 'fintech' - are being heralded in the world of development by the likes of the IMF and World Bank as a silver bullet in the fight against poverty. But should we believe the hype? A Critical History of Poverty Finance demonstrates how newfangled 'digital financial inclusion' efforts suffer from the same essential flaws as earlier iterations of neoliberal 'financial inclusion'. Relying on artificially created markets that simply aren't there among the world's most disadvantaged economic actors, they also reinforce existing patterns of inequality and uneven development, many of which date back to the colonial era. Bernards offers an astute analysis of the current fintech fad, contextualised through a detailed colonial history of development finance, that ultimately reveals the neoliberal vision of poverty alleviation for the pipe dream it is.

The untold story of Winston Churchill's precarious finances - and the most original and surprising book about Churchill to emerge for many years. The popular image of Churchill - grandson of a duke, drinking champagne and smoking a cigar - conjures up a man of wealth and substance. The reality is that Britain's most celebrated 20th-century statesman lived for most of his life on a financial cliff-edge. Only fragments of information about his finances, or their impact on his public life, have previously emerged. With the help of unprecedented access to Churchill's private records, David Lough creates the first fully researched narrative of Churchill's private finances and business affairs. As he reveals the scale of Churchill's financial risk-taking, combined with an ability to talk or write himself out of the tightest of corners, the links between the private man and public figure become clear.

Aaron Graham
R1,634 Discovery Miles 16 340 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book brings together for the first time more than half a dozen proposals for an imperial paper currency in the mid-eighteenth century British Atlantic, to show how manage colonial currency and banking in the expanding empire. Existing studies have looked at the successes and failures of schemes in individual colonies. But some had grander ambitions, such as Benjamin Franklin, and offered proposals for 'imperial' or 'continental' paper currencies and monetary unions which would help knit together colonial territories throughout North America and even the Caribbean into a cohesive whole during a moment of imperial reform. This book brings together these proposals for the first time, including several never studied before, to show how thinkers and writers on empire, currency and finance drew on financial practices, precedents and principles from across the British Atlantic to present their own visions of monetary union and the future of empire. In doing so it makes an important and original contribution to the wider histories of monetary and financial thought and theory and the roots of American monetary policy, and the links between finance, empire, politics, reform and revolution. It will be of interest to academics working on the history of finance, banking and currency in the British Isles, North America and the Caribbean in the eighteenth century, as well as those working on the political economy of the British Empire, including mercantilism, trade, warfare and the politics of empire in the decades leading up to the American Revolution.
