This unique, research-based investigation of the U.S. breast cancer
movement compares the "pink" and "green" efforts within the
movement and documents their use of similar citizen-science
alliances, despite the contention over the use of consumer-based
activism and pink products. Breast cancer activism is one of the
most flourishing research and health advocacy movements in U.S.
history. Yet the incidence of breast cancer is continuing to
increase. This critical and revealing text investigates breast
cancer activism in its two forms-the "pink movement" that focuses
on developing awareness of, coping with, and managing breast
cancer; and the "green movement" that strives to determine the
possible environmental causes of breast cancer-such as pesticides,
chemicals, and water and air pollution-and thereby hopes to prevent
breast cancer. What caused this new green movement to develop? Will
it replace or merge with the pink movement? Does either approach
offer more promise for a solution? And how do the two movements
differ in their positions or methodology towards a similar goal?
With information culled from interviews with more than 50 industry
stakeholders, The Green Solution to Breast Cancer: A Promise for
Prevention argues that key attributes such as strategy, mission,
and branding have led to a greater convergence between the pink and
green wings of the movement and presents information that enables
readers to consider if either approach might be the shorter route
to beating breast cancer. Examines research findings that suggest
that the pink and green aspects of the breast cancer movement are
no longer separate but in fact are converging towards a focus on
environmental prevention Provides an in-depth examination of
advocacy organizations and the ways in which an organization's
structure and ideology shape its agenda and strategies Looks
critically at controversial aspects of the consumerism of the pink
movement, the small portion of sales actually given to cancer
research, and other shortcomings of this attempt to shop our way
out of a nonetheless still-increasing disease Presents valuable
information for upper level undergraduate and graduate students in
political science within American politics or health politics
courses as well as those studying women's and gender studies,
sociology, nursing, and non-profit enterprises
Low- and middle-income countries have seen a dramatic rise in the
incidence of breast and gynecological cancers in the past decade.
Organized cancer screening programs are not widely available in
developing countries, leading to disproportionately higher
mortality rates compared to those in the developed world. This book
addresses cost-effective strategies for implementing programs aimed
at screening for the early detection of breast, cervical,
endometrial, and ovarian cancers. A well woman clinic concept
providing such services as part of women's health examinations is
proposed, aiming to ensure patient compliance by limiting clinic
visits required for initial testing and diagnosis of screen
positive cases.

3D ultrasound shows a still image of a foetus, far more detailed
than the 2D flat grey scale imaging. 4D ultrasound is more
advanced, showing a moving image, allowing obstetricians to
evaluate foetal well-being. It is also used by gynaecologists to
examine uterine anomalies. This book is a practical guide to the
use of 3D and 4D ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology. Divided
into three sections, the text begins with an introduction to
ultrasound, its working and application, its function, software,
and volume calculation tools. Section Two covers clinical
applications of volume ultrasound in obstetrics, explaining its use
during the first trimester, for foetal abnormalities, for
functional assessment of foetal brain development, and in labour.
The final section discusses the application of ultrasound in
gynaecology, covering uterine abnormalities, adnexal lesions, and
in infertility. The book concludes with an appendix detailing
different terms used by different brands. Key points Practical
guide to use of 3D and 4D ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology
Provides detailed explanation of ultrasound working, function and
software Covers different uses of ultrasound for foetal monitoring,
gynaecological disorders, and infertility Highly illustrated with
detailed ultrasound images
The main focus of this book is on ruptured uterus which is a
potentially fatal complication during pregnancy. The risk factors
and clinical presentation of ruptured uterus vary widely. This book
gives an insight into the various possible causes and their
presentation. This book aims to sensitize the practicing
obstetricians about the need for high level of caution in the
deceptive scenarios. The readers would be able to translate the
clinical experience and shelf knowledge into every day practice.
The cases with similar risks and background will be compiled
together under one chapter and at the end of each chapter key
points will be highlighted.

machine, 3D and 4D ultrasound, and examination of the female
pelvis, the next chapters cover the role of colour flow and
Doppler, and ultrasound, in infertility, and the use of ultrasound
for the diagnosis of gynaecological disorders. The following
chapters provide in depth discussion on the use of ultrasound in
obstetrics, for both general pregnancy progress and health
check-ups, and for abnormal conditions such as bleeding, placenta
problems, and malformations. The final sections provide guidance on
ultrasound report writing and how to train ultrasound techniques.

but it covers biological, anatomical, physiological,
pathobiological, and pharmacological aspects as well bringing
together, in one source, all of the information needed to
understand and treat postmenopausal conditions.

In this book, world-renowned experts describe the latest advances
in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and explain why endoscopy
is of key importance in so many conditions. Hysteroscopic
instrumentation is described and the application of hysteroscopic
techniques in patients with polyps, fibroids, malformations and
infertility is explained and evaluated. Individual chapters are
devoted to the current minimally invasive treatment of
endometriosis, endometrial polyps and adenomyosis. The role of
laparoscopy in gynecologic oncology and the laparoscopic approach
to hysterectomy are fully discussed. Various other applications of
laparoscopy are considered, with coverage of techniques including
traditional straight stick laparoscopy, barbed suture and robotic
and single port surgery. Neurophysiology and the use of
laparoscopic therapy to restore vital function are discussed and
complications of laparoscopic surgery are also addressed.
A woman's childbirth care choices have a profound effect on her
pregnancy and childbirth experience. Today, some pregnant women
have three different options to choose from: obstetrical care and a
hospital birth, a midwife-assisted birth in a hospital, and a
midwife-assisted birth at an out-of-hospital birthing center. By
using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, this
volume examines how and why 200 women made their choices, how
satisfied they were with the care they received, and the impact of
their choices on the availability of options in the future.
Although most women in the U.S. still choose an obstetrician and a
hospital setting, the number of women who choose to be assisted by
a Certified Nurse Midwife is growing, with the result that this
profession is acquiring new strength and jurisdiction over
childbirth care.
Providing the latest evidence-based information on etiology,

cover the set-up and management of RPL clinics and databases,
containing practical tips. Recurrent Pregnancy Loss will be an
excellent resource for OB-GYN specialists, general and reproductive
endocrinologists, radiologists, hematologists, psychiatrists,
psychologists, and any other investigators or clinicians treating
patients confronted with this emotionally and physically trying
condition.
This volume will explore the latest findings in research into the
