This small paperback book contains seven short stories about me and my experiences with several yard and household tools. It is meant to be light hearted and easy to read. It will become part of a series of short books intended for the middle-aged adult who does not read much. Hopefully wives or partners will buy this for Fathers Day, birthdays and Seasonal gift giving. This book will make a great Stocking-Stuffer. The stories are about a snow blower, a chainsaw, a leaf blower, a lawnmower, a set of bicycle tools, a motorcycle and a dog hair trimmer. I'm not the most effective tool user, but I know I cannot be judged by the size of my tool, only how well I use it. Well now it just takes me a little longer to get the job done. I hope you can relate to these tool experiences. Answer that age old question of why men buy tools. "You are not a tool if you read this book," Vern Bignell.

A knife is the most basic tool, and the average adult uses a knife almost every day. Yet there are very few individually made knives in existence, and few people who know how to make knives. Step by Step Knifemaking, by master knifemaker David Boye, is widely regarded as the classic on the art of handcrafted knives. Thorough, clear, detailed instructions guide the reader through each step in how to make a knife. Generously illustrated with photos and drawings on most pages, this book reads like a one-on-one workshop with a thoughtful teacher. The reader is led to discover the spiritual connection between himself and his work, to develop his sense of artistry, and to acquire practical skills for self-sufficiency. Completely self-taught, the author guides the beginning knifemaker through the thinking processes necessary to make a knife; inspires confidence in the reader to begin at his own skill level; and shows how it can be done on a financial shoestring. Topics covered include tools, setting up a shop, knife design, grinding, heat treating, polishing, sharpening, blade etching, sheath making, and more. Boye's outdoor knives, kitchen cutlery, and utility knives are functional and "peace-loving," and the chapter on etching designs into the blades is one of the few guides to this unique art in print. With over 175,000 copies in print, Step by Step Knifemaking has deeply moved thousands to involve themselves in this craft, and they constitute a visible portion of today's knifemakers. This book can impel the reader to a personally satisfying, alternative backyard career, making his own useful knife art. It is an enjoyable, indispensable reference for those wanting to learn knifemaking, become more self-reliant, or for anyone with an interest in the ancient craft of blades. "Handmade knives are unique," writes David Boye, "reflecting the skills and personality of their maker. They impart a personal touch to what would be a cold impersonal item. Thus it is with a handmade knife, or a handmade article of any kind, that there is a subtle exchange of electromagnetic energy that is transferred from the heart and the hands of the craftsman to the heart of the person who sees and uses the handmade article. Hopefully, the product will be the embodiment and expression of love and beauty in a useful, sanitary, and safe cutting tool - a hint of a deeper, more profound spirit in the process of living." 272 pages; 170 illustrations; 155 photographs.

Installing a furnace may sound like a job that must be done by an expert. You may be surprised to know that by following my simple instructions, you can install your own furnace in no time. This book is for changing out an existing furnace, not for a complete new house duct installation. Installing your own furnace has significant financial advantages. You may be surprised that installing your own furnace can save you a tremendous amount of money. Completing this task on your own can save you as much as $2000.00. This amount is an estimate since each furnace is different and some cost more than others do. You can save even more, possibly another $1000.00, if you install your own central air conditioning. Installation manuals that come with the furnace are written for someone that does heating for a living, usually very complicated without prior knowledge of the subject. This handy book was designed for the first time furnace installer, with the intention of guiding you through each step of the installation process. Along the way of installing your new furnace Paul will be there for you with step by step "how to" instructions.
If the opportunity to reflect and reconsider the move did present itself in those early weeks of planning, I certainly ignored it. I steamrollered my way through preparations for the move to Tasmania, happy in my favourite role of problem solver. It wasn't until I walked into the strange kitchen, located the pantry, and stored the few bits I had picked up at the supermarket near the airport that I understood the enormity of my decision. And I'd forgotten to buy milk. The property in Tasmania was beautiful, isolated and I was alone. This was sink or swim stuff. It would last a year; a year in which I would be resentful, defiant and sometimes content.
