What does the title mean? It is the idea that we can approach any electrical or electronic (and mechanical) fault using a basic logical or probability-based investigation to observe and correctly identify the significant indicators that will eventually lead us to the failure or failures. This is no different from the Detective Books you read or TV Shows you watch where the hero used a logical approach (while all those around him just ran around willy nilly) to identify the clues and catch the bad guy. This book is a complete course in Troubleshooting. Along with the written theory explaining my proven troubleshooting methods, there are over 80 diagrams and drawings, and 50 comprehension questions (with the answers) that will help you monitor how much you understand. Note: This is a Basic Troubleshooting course for Everyone; if you are already an experienced and competent electrical/electronics troubleshooter, it may to basic. This is a step by step how to be your own general contractor and save thousands of dollars in the process.
This book takes you through the steps of how to build your own house. It helps you identify problem areas in building, and also gives you the courage to build a home yourself. Several different kinds of construction are discussed including post and beam homes, insulated concrete forms, and log home although the standard "stick" building procedure is followed closely by the book. This book takes the reader through the necessary steps to build a house, from the footings/foundation to actual completion the house. It's a step-by-step process outlined by the book. The author believes like Thoreau: "There is some of the same fitness in a man's building his own house that there is in a bird's building its own nest. Who knows but if men constructed their dwellings with their own hands, and provided food for themselves and families simply and honestly enough, the poetic faculty would be universally developed, as birds universally sing when they are so engaged? But alas we do like cowbirds and cuckoos, which lay their eggs in nests which other birds have built, and cheer no traveller with their chattering and unmusical notes. Shall we forever resign the pleasure of construction to the carpenter?" Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Except for remodeling out first home, my wife and I had no experience in building yet dared to built two homes: a custom one for our growing family and, later, one for our retirement. Though the book is well illustrated, it is not a step-by-step instruction on how to build a home, but one well detailed in all phases of construction. . Our retirement home, built with concrete blocks, reinforced with steel, is a more permanent structure. Let me put it this way: it is not an overstatement if I say our retirement home will last thousands of years, one that will have people wondering, who the heck built a Greek temple on a California mountain? We did not go into the project blindly. The key words are research and taking the time to visit building sites. In my work clothes of white shirt and tie and with clipboard for taking note, I was seen by most laborers as a typical office worker doing his tedious job. Please try to be unobtrusive while questioning workers in different stages of construction. Carpenters were helpful in demonstrating the safe use of power tools. Stucco men loved to show off the different textures they created, Spanish lace their favorite. I strongly recommend that my readers visit construction, and please get permission from a job foreman. Good luck.
About the book: Author Lisa Barthuly asks, "Would you like to rid your home of commercial, toxic products but don't want to pay the price for the 'all natural', 'organic' products that line the shelf? Learn to make your own Create everything from your own laundry soap, to homemade dryer sheets, antibacterial spray cleaners, potpourri blends, fabric softeners, calendula salve, homemade 'Vaseline, ' handcrafted Eucalyptus Chest Rub...even tips for the outside of the homestead and much more A must have book for those looking not only to simplify, but to cut that grocery bill down, create a healthier environment for our families, and revive the art of making our own From the book: If we knew how to make our own cleaning products to replace the toxic, commercial ones...would we? Would we put forth the effort required? The desire to make my own products stemmed from the frugal, self reliant side of me. I wanted simple; homemade; natural. Remember the definition of simple is NOT 'easier.' Living "simply" in our times, means making a deliberate choice to differ from the mainstream of today's societal norm. My desire changed over to sheer determination, when one of my children was diagnosed with a myriad of allergies, chemical sensitivities, and asthma. After much study and research, we were determined that we could not have those products in our home, they are useless (when God has provided all we need to your own) and harmful to everyone in our home. Join me, as I show you how to easily make your own natural, homemade, handcrafted products that are not only less expensive but truly better for our families, our home and God's Creation.

Today's commercially available yurts largely are flexible wall units, with lattice forming the "frame" of the walls, and studs resting on an aircraft cable strung along the top of the lattice. They are lightweight, but, by that definition, are vulnerable to the elements and to wildlife. Although defined as portable, they require a full day to set up, using three or more people. Their insulation (optional) generally is Mylar bubble insulation and windows are heavy plastic. The yurt concept in this set of plans calls for rigid insulation walls, readily available materials, glass windows, standard-sized door, and a very lightweight, truly portable design. Although the yurt plan is sized for a 16-foot diameter unit, size can be scaled up or down quite readily. Total material cost generally is less than $1,500. Typically, one person can cut all the pieces needed to size in less than 40 hours. To assemble the unit requires one person and three or four hours. To disassemble takes two hours. The guide includes numerous photographs of a sample yurt being built. Also included are discussions of problems with many yurts (and solutions), ideas on plumbing, heating, interior finish and power.

One of the biggest reasons to act as your own general contractor is the money you can save by investing your time and energy, also known as 'Sweat Equity, ' into your home-building experience. Another consideration that you need to keep in mind is the mental and emotional involvement, also known as 'Intellectual Effort, ' in building your own home. Whether you are having your home built for you, or you decide to act as your own general contractor, you need to keep in mind that both avenues have some stress involved because this is your home that is being built. While you may have heard some horror stories from people who have undertaken such a project, you will also feel a great sense of satisfaction, pride and fulfillment when your home is complete. How can I make that claim you ask? Simple. I have 40+ years of building experience. The key to acting as your own general contractor with the least amount of stress possible is being aware of the steps and procedures. This will make the process more enjoyable and it will save you 10's of thousands of dollars.
