The causes of schizophrenia are many, including extreme stress,
chemical imbalance, reaction to drugs, genetic predisposition,
isolation, low self-esteem, and even a damaged or weakened aura (a
supposed emanation surrounding the body of a living creature viewed
by mystics, spiritualists, and some practitioners of complementary
medicine as the essence of the individual and allegedly discernible
by people with special sensibilities). My personal onset of
schizophrenia and depression at age forty-two was caused, I
believe, by a combination of the above.
Through the caring help of family, friends, medical doctors,
healers, and my own insights and intuitions, I was able to become
completely free of the symptoms of schizophrenia and all
antipsychotic and antidepressant medications used to treat the
illness. Most influential and important to my healing and recovery,
however, was the utilization of both borrowed and original
strategies that keep me healthy to this day. The sharing of these
strategies, which include identifying one's gifts; relying on
family members, friends, and caregivers; improving one's
self-esteem; identifying one's authentic self; connecting with
healers; being in gratitude; setting goals; and using positive
affirmations for the purpose of recovering and maintaining positive
mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health is the reason why
I have written this book.
This book introduces a new vision-a simple and comprehensive
approach to understanding different aspects of humanity, and the
complexities of this world, exemplified by a collection of
extraordinary stories, and supported by a pile of science and
evidence.
For thousands of years, humanity has been suffering from
illnesses at individual, societal, and international levels.
Anxiety, depression, prostitution, crime, and worldwide wars are
only a few of these examples. Despite hundreds of spiritual,
religious, and non-religious leaders, and in spite of tremendous
advancements in science and technology, our collective problems are
only growing. The question is why. What are we missing? The root of
these problems points to one common element-not fully understanding
the multidimensional human being. We cannot solve the dilemmas of
humanity with the same mind that created them
This book is intended to help the general population explore
some of the most complex mysteries of our world and seemingly
unsolvable problems created by mankind. It provides a fast track
for personal and global transformation based on science and
evidence, using a bio-psycho-socio-spiritual model. Many concepts
have been borrowed from outstanding scientists, philosophers,
researchers, teachers, and leaders in the past and present, and a
few more have been added by the author.
Key to the Science of Theology is Parley P. Pratt's all-embracing
account of religion's impact on everything in day to day life. The
author discusses religion, science, and the meaning of life in a
passionate and concise way. Pratt's insights into the importance of
religion and the presence of the Holy Ghost in our lives has lost
none of its poignant luster with the passage of time. We discover
here answers to all manner of questions concerning the dizzying
pace of scientific advancement, and the core spiritual principles
which all good Christians - be they Mormon or otherwise - must
cleave to in pursuit of a sublime life well-lived. All kinds of
philosophical concepts are brought to the fore by Pratt, whose
learning and researches are of stunning profundity. Topics include
the spiritual progress of mankind over the ages, the various
attributes of the heavenly afterlife, and the origin and destiny of
the universe around us.
When people feel free to speak with authenticity, from their
heart--at work--without fear, their workplace becomes a place
inspired by shared purpose. Workplace productivity is marked by
extraordinary quality. In Heart at Work, explore real stories that
will inspire you to want to make speaking from the heart the norm,
not the exception. Several practitioner/authors describe and tell
actual stories about their own work. A toy manufacturer describes
the connection to their customer, children, through play. A soldier
describes how his struggle to survive PTSD, enables his ability to
support other soldiers. An artistic director and choreographer
reveals the transformation that occurs when dancers share in the
creative process. College presidents describe their increased
ability to open their hearts and then increased staff and student
success as people become more engaged. A Medical doctor describe
how their own personal transformation impacted his medical
practice. Authors describe the ways their inner work and then
meaningful sharing with colleagues, results in innovation,
creativity and positive action, including better service to
clients. "If you want to bring your whole self to work, to live a
seamless life with mind and heart aligned for the tasks before you,
you will find a wise and gentle guide in Heart at Work. Hafiz long
ago wrote: 'Love is the great work, though every heart is first an
apprentice . . .'. This gem of a book brings these words to life
through authentic stories that illustrate, inform and inspire the
reader to create their own authentic life's work." Henry Emmons,
MD, Author, The Chemistry of Joy; The Chemistry of Calm; and The
Chemistry of Joy Workbook: Overcoming Depression Using the Best of
Brain Science, Nutrition and the Psychology of Mindfulness,
Integrative Psychiatrist, and Health Care Leader.
