When I first developed this workshop, I could never have imagined
the holiness that I would experience through the unfolding of
beauty, spirit and power of the women in each circle. Like flowers
that had never-before bloomed, they unfolded to reveal their
exquisite innate selves. In fact, these women committed to a
process of becoming themselves-each one unique, each one aligning
with their personal truth. When that happens ... well ... you are
about to see some of the results. Please take a moment on each page
to absorb their creative work. It's not made for a museum. It's not
built for resale. What you will find in these next few pages are
the inner truths of ordinary women ... and, given your openness,
extraordinary results. These women are incredible. You will see it
in their faces. You will read it in their poems. You will find it
in yourself ... because you share it, too.
Although midlife has been traditionally viewed as a time of
decline, science and experience are demonstrating that most of our
fears are unsupported. For many women it can be a time to
rediscover important aspects of themselves that have been left due
to the responsibilities of motherhood and careers. In Stable
Wisdom, lifelong horsewoman Shirley Potterton provides a
one-of-a-kind guide for women on a midlife journey that encourages
transformation and positive changes with the help of an equine
companion. Potterton, whose love for horses was rekindled at
midlife, relies on experiences from her own journey of
self-discovery as well as others' to share powerful tools and
exercises to help women embrace the wisdom of an intuitive creature
in order to move forward, develop new skills, and utilize innate
strengths. Through a step-by-step plan that can be applied with or
without a horse, women can learn how to listen to the inner voice
for direction; create and renew energy levels; develop a courageous
approach to life; bring insight, wisdom, and experience to
leadership roles; and initiate self-reflection without judgment.
Stable Wisdom provides valuable guidance, tools, and confidence for
any woman in midlife who dares to think big and is ready to
discover her own unique wisdom and implement exciting life changes.

I am just an ordinary woman turned "extraordinary" through
circumstances. I touch others through my own tragedies by giving
them hope and encouragement and reminding them that sometimes the
richest people are those who have endured tragedy, pain, sadness,
and struggle, allowing them to lead a more abundant life. Never
would I change my life experiences. My greatest gift is my endless
compassion for others, and my sincerest hope is to bring each and
every one of you the gift of pure joy, the kind of joy that
enlarges your heart and brings tears to your eyes. I have laughed
at diversity, tragedy, failure, poor health, and financial
devastation. Yet I am so very rich Yes, it was God who told me to
contact you through my book and his words. If you met me
personally, you would understand this is not my ego talking. I am
only repeating what God told me. "I am." "You are." "We" are all
destined for greatness
Candan struggled with alcoholism until two ladies from
Alcoholics Anonymous discovered her and helped her back to
sobriety. Originally from Istanbul, Turkey, Candan went on to carry
the message of recovery to her own country, where alcoholism was a
taboo subject and women especially were shamed into secrecy of
their disease. This is the story of how she established and spread
the word of Alcoholics Anonymous to those in need in her native
country.
Like life, the Labyrinth] walk seems pretty easy at the start
when we're kids. You decide what you want to be when you grow up
and head that way, toward center. Then real life begins to happen.
Some of us carry the seeds of a physical, mental, and spiritual
malaise, one of the "isms" like alcoholism, for example. These
explode, reach the surface, and sprout. Our straight path zings
away to the side, we lose sight of center, and we circle around the
edge of what others seem to easily obtain. At some point on the
narrow path, I suddenly recall the day of my first marriage's
divorce, and I weep but keep walking. Around another tight curve on
the path, I recall my first AA meeting, while I was still in the
detox in South Amboy. Teasingly close to center again, the path
zags in the opposite direction. In obeying the order for this
second walk, I come to understand. Now I feel again the purposeful
turning away from recovery that I chose time and again, running
from salvation back to the slavery of bottle or line. My choices,
mine alone.
Imagine beginning your life no longer than a table knife in a
hospital that lacks even an incubator. Your premature body decides
it has had enough, and your heart stops beating. Then a nurse
breaths life back into you. Through the birthing process, a brain
injury causes cerebral palsy, and normal body movements do not
develop. Life is hard, and help is difficult to find. That is how
Gail Johnson's life began in 1932. Her life is littered with
miracles that came from decisions made by strong, passionate
people. Through a combination of those decisions, surgeries,
training, and perseverance, Gail has lived a full life. No Time to
Quit takes you on a journey through many of the major challenges
and events of her life. It shows that there truly is no time to
quit.
