This book will show you how to learn the game of video poker so that you have the odds over the casino. It will show you which machines to select and how to find those machines. Also, you will learn about "perfect play" and "cheat sheets." This is not a book that discusses the mathematical reasons behind the correct moves in video poker. "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book." Groucho Marx In 1957, Vance Packard wrote. "Our American life, through a large scale effort to use psychiatry and the social sciences to influence and manipulate buying, has had impressive success below our level of awareness." Since 1957, there is great evidence that our culture has become a harbinger of emotional exploitation in more forms than we can recognize and irrational profit taking in more forms than we can image. In these times, investing in a charity is not easy within a gambling culture that has glamorized wind fall profits, and run away CEO salaries. It certainly worsens when these efforts become unfettered, and ignored by business efforts that not only fail to provide a product of value but offer no product at all. This madness can only succeed by turning huge profits through the creation of cannibalistic markets and non-profit corporations that feed on gambling addictions which buy moments of hope as they excite and exploit risk instincts. This baiting continues to validate at warp speed the assumption that we are a nation of impulse buyers. We reverse like a school of starving gold fish fearful of the vibrations of mere foot steps and unable to notice bread crumbs on top of the water. No doubt someone has convinced us that with every failure there will always be another roll of the 'dice.' The more relevant question of interest is who will roll those dice on your internet gambling site? No doubt we have become more reactive but worse we have become less knowledgeable. This writing is offered to encourage your thoughtfulness about your money and who andwhat you empower as you give it away.
The Gambler was written by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The novel reflects Dostoevsky's addiction to roulette, which was not just a strong inspiration for the book, because Dostoevsky had to finish the novel to pay gambling debts.

Ed Hawkins grew up around gambling. Instead of going to school, he followed his father, a horseracing journalist, around the courses of the UK. From an early age he learnt that bookies never give anything away. So when he lost a misguided gamble on his career, he doubled up on reflex - deciding to wager his way around the globe. Initially gambling his way across Australia, he meets triumph and disaster at one of the world's biggest casinos with witty self-deprecation. He embarrasses himself playing poker with Hollywood's finest at the World Series in Las Vegas, challenges world champion Phil Taylor to a game of darts, fights roosters with Britney Spears' babysitter and fleeces pensioners on planes. Hawkins tries anything to stay afloat, ending up in a Glasgow bingo hall hoping to land the same long odds that stare back at him from the mirror, having been diagnosed with a rare illness.

The professional gambler at the Thoroughbred racetracks needs certain qualities of mind in order to prevail. In The Psychology of the Winning Horseplayer I analyze these qualities and suggest ways to acquire and improve them. Having a good method of selection and sound money-management skills although crucially important will not be enough to keep a horseplayer in the black during a long season at the track. What he needs are the psychological insights that will enable him to develop good control, steel discipline, and presence of mind when the pressure is on. The ideas in the twenty chapters of this book are indispensable to the gambler who intends to be in the racetrack game a long time and make substantial money along the way.

Sports betting doesn't have to be a gamble. Yes, it's still speculation but the chances of success can be maximized if one doesn't bet on a whim but develops a sound sports betting strategy. This book provides no quick fix formulas but gives you the tools and intellectual framework to develop your own sports betting strategy based on your individual knowledge and abilities. The author analyzes the game of sports betting, why most people lose and ways those common mistakes can be avoided. Basic strategies (The Underdog, The Favorite and Diversification) and their limitations are analyzed in depth and insight is provided into just about every aspect of strategic sports betting from emotional discipline to developing your own system. Ninety percent of people betting on sports lose. If this little book won't provide a fixed formula for success, it will put you that much closer to the winning ten percent.
Craps - For the beginning or more advanced player Craps is the only casino game offering the best odds for the player. Most players look for the "hot table" where many numbers are being thrown before the 7 appears. Imagine using selective dice settings, and a way of throwing that works toward that goal. If you look at the left side of each die and there is a 66,55, or 44 and you spin to get the 16 combinations, you would get 4 7's. If the left side of each die is a 65,64, or 54 you would find two 7's. Special sets increase the odds of throwing more numbers and less 7's- giving you the capability of making more money and winning more games. Can you guess what strategy you would use- that uses only four bets- and getting paid for every number thrown- except the 7? One of the first steps in controlling the game is money managing. The control of the amount of money set aside for gaming should be determined by the number of gaming days. As you play- using a regression system or taking down your bets is a guaranteed win. This book offers everything for the beginner and the experienced player. Keep away from GREED and you will have the tools to win.
LEARN THE SECRETS OF THE TILES Pai Gow Tiles is "the thinking person's casino game." It's played in casinos throughout the United States, including places like Las Vegas, New Jersey, and California. Exotic and engaging, it combines skill and luck and-for the knowledgeable player, Pai Gow is also one of the fairest games offered in casinos and cardrooms. It may seem mysterious at first, but you'll soon see that the game is actually pretty "simple to learn, challenging to master, fun and sociable, and a great table game for preserving your bankroll." In 1981, Michael Musante was Supervisor of Oriental Games at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas when he self-published a little book entitled Pai Gow - Chinese Dominoes. It was the first English-language book to comprehensively explain the game. In fact "the Musante House Way"-based on the first edition-is the foundation for the house way in many casinos. After 30 years, that book is acknowledged as a gaming classic with some online sellers asking hundreds of dollars for a used copy. This book revisits the original edition and contains extensive updates, all-new graphics, and additional insights into this ancient game. You'll get an outstanding introduction to the lore, rules, and strategy of Pai Gow and a variety of tips and techniques for mastering the tiles. Also included are several suggestions to improve your play, as well as "a first-of-its-kind chapter on how to memorize the order of the tiles." With this book and a bit of practice, you'll be able to play intelligently and with confidence ABOUT THE AUTHOR Michael J. Musante is considered one of the foremost authorities on the game of Pai Gow in the United States. He was instrumental in establishing the first "legal" game of Pai Gow in California at the Huntington Park Casino. He trained the dealers, supervisors and surveillance personnel for Pai Gow at the Casino de Quebec in Hull. He also was an expert witness for the County of Los Angeles in a case involving the legality of Pai Gow in California. Mr. Musante has been in and around the gaming industry for the last forty years. He has worked in three major resort areas of Nevada: Lake Tahoe, Reno, and Las Vegas. He has dealt and supervised every game offered in a casino including "21," Craps, Roulette and Baccarat and was also one of the first Occidentals to have ever dealt the game of Pai Gow in a North American gaming establishment.
I have been looking for the one poker book that contains all of the games, rules, and strategy for playing poker. Now, I've written it. The Poker Book includes how to play almost 100 variations of poker. This book covers Flop games like Hold'em, Omaha, and Pineapple. There are Stud games like Razz, Chicago, and Baseball. The Draw games Jacks or Better, Ace to Five, and Badugi are in there. There is also a section just for Guts games, including Monte Carlo, Consecutive, and Three to Five. It even has the rules for Chinese Poker. With the help of the Poker Tournament Directors' Association and Robert, The Coach, Ciaffone The Poker Book gives you the official TDA Rules and Robert's Rules of Poker. These are the two definitive authorities of poker in the world. Whether you are a novice or advanced player, the Poker Book will become your ONE source for all games of poker. I was looking for a book that would tell me all the rules and how to play the games I wanted to play. I had a terrible time trying to find such a book, so I wrote one. This is it. I'm not going to tell you about any hand I've played but how to play the hands you might be dealt. Here are the rules for almost every game of poker. I hope to give you basic strategies that will help improve your game. The more popular the game, the more information I've included. In discussing how to play, I write about hands, position and chip stacks but there is so much more to every hand. I can't go into every scenario that you will run into; there isn't a book big enough. I can give you the ability to think through your situation and improve your game. There are four main categories of poker games and I will explain them in this order, Flop, Stud, Draw and Guts. Each game can be played on a variety of structures. There's No-limit, Pot-limit, Limit, Spread Limit, Cap-Limit. I cover the differences and how they can affect your play. I also discuss Split and Mixed games.
The Gambler is a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky about a young tutor in the employment of a formerly wealthy Russian General. The novella reflects Dostoevsky's own addiction to roulette, which was in more ways than one the inspiration for the book: Dostoevsky completed the novella under a strict deadline so he could pay off gambling debts.
Casino Women is a pioneering look at the female face of corporate gaming. Based on extended interviews with maids, cocktail waitresses, cooks, laundry workers, dealers, pit bosses, managers, and vice presidents, the book describes in compelling detail a world whose enormous profitability is dependent on the labor of women assigned stereotypically female occupations making beds and serving food on the one hand and providing sexual allure on the other. But behind the neon lies another world, peopled by thousands of remarkable women who assert their humanity in the face of gaming empires' relentless quest for profits. The casino women profiled here generally fall into two groups. Geoconda Arguello Kline, typical of the first, arrived in the United States in the 1980s fleeing the war in Nicaragua. Finding work as a Las Vegas hotel maid, she overcame her initial fear of organizing and joined with others to build the preeminent grassroots union in the nation the 60,000-member Culinary Union becoming in time its president. In Las Vegas, "the hottest union city in America," the collective actions of union activists have won economic and political power for tens of thousands of working Nevadans and their families. The story of these women's transformation and their success in creating a union able to face off against global gaming giants form the centerpiece of this book. Another group of women, dealers and middle managers among them, did not act. Fearful of losing their jobs, they remained silent, declining to speak out when others were abused, and in the case of middle managers, taking on the corporations' goals as their own. Susan Chandler and Jill B. Jones appraise the cost of their silence and examine the factors that pushed some women into activism and led others to accept the status quo. Casino Women will appeal to all readers interested in women, gambling, and working-class life, and in how ordinary people stand up to corporate actors who appear to hold all the cards." |
