Coming from a working class background you might not have expected
William Carey to impact the world but God had other plans. William
was an inquisitive child and keenly interested in the natural world
around him. He was bright and intelligent enough to teach himself
Latin and Greek. However, where young boys from wealthy families
benefited from a university education William was apprenticed to a
local shoemaker. In his adult life Carey fulfilled many different
roles such as husband, father and schoolmaster. He was also a
preacher and pastor for the Baptist denomination and had a great
passion to bring the gospel to other lands. He was one of the key
individuals in 1792 to form The Baptist Missionary Society. William
Carey then left the United Kingdom with his family to take the good
news of Jesus Christ to the land of India. There he used his
linguistic talents to translate the Bible into many Indian
languages including Bengali, Hindi and Sanskrit. This book will
introduce you to a young lad who learned to make shoes but who also
became the father of today's missionary movement. William Carey
knew that we should expect great things from God and attempt great
things for God.
Beloved writer Stormie Omartian gently explains to her young
readers that God loves them at all times and that each one of their
prayers is meaningful and precious. Through Shari Warren's cheerful
artwork and Stormie's wise words, children learn that God is always
listening and ready to help.
Stormie shares what it means to pray the best prayer of
all--asking Jesus to come into your heart. As children learn about
the great gift of salvation and the wonder of living forever with
God, they are assured that, as one of God's special kids, Jesus is
always beside them--and they'll be inspired to reach out to others
and tell them how awesome it is to be a child of God.
Select text is adapted from The Prayer That Makes God Smile by
Stormie Omartian.
Questions! Questions! Questions! Children are full of them. This
book tackles the many questions that children have about Jesus,
including:- * What was special about Jesus? * Why did Jesus heal
sick people? * Why did Jesus have to die? * How can I give my life
to Jesus? An answer is given for each question, accompanied by a
story to read and a memory verse. To help the children take the
message on board there are activities and suggestions for
discussion. Prayers are also given to encourage them to bring every
aspect of life to their Heavenly Father. An invaluable tool for
introducing children to Jesus and helping them to get to know Him
better, in an enjoyable and interactive way.
During the Middle Ages the church laboured to build a community of
faith. Benedict, Columba, and Francis organized communities in
which the Gospel could be preached. Theodulf, Anselm, and Bernard
of Clairvaux answered the call to reform that community and
theology. And when the church's leaders drifted from the authority
of Scripture, a first wave of reformers in Peter Waldo, John
Wycliffe, and John Hus arose to call God's people back to the grace
of God. This was a Church that sought to reign, love and conquest,
a Church that wanted to secure freedom, and proclaim the gospel.
When that Church fell into corruption it undertook its own reform.
Which one of these is the medieval Church? They all are! And in
that we can find hope in the God Who loves His Church as we seek to
live in His name.
