Joni Eareckson is a well-known Christian speaker and author from
America but there was a day when she was a teenage girl in a
bathing costume with nothing on her mind but boys, make up and her
beloved horse, Tumbleweed. However, all that changed one morning
when an innocent dive turned into a tragic accident. Joni's story
is a wonderful testimony to God's grace and power in someone's
life. Healing may have been an amazing miracle that didn't happen
but Joni's ongoing work with thousands of disabled people
throughout the world is a miracle in itself.
This is the story of Prince Siddhartha and how he became Buddha,
the Awakened One. Lyrical verse and beautiful full-color
illustrations depict each major life event in Siddhartha's
development. His message of nonviolence, loving-kindness, and
unselfishness is vitally necessary for today's--and
tomorrow's--children. A story made for the telling--open this tale
to a child and shore up the possibility of a bright and loving
future

Mary Slessor grew up in the slums of Dundee in the 1800's. Industry
was booming but housing was sub- standard and life expectancy was
low. Illness, disease and malnutrition killed many children before
they reached the age of five. Mary was lucky - born into a poor
family, abused by her father - she was still alive. Dundee was
Mary's training ground for a far fiercer battle. Mary left the
shores of Scotland while only in her early twenties to immerse
herself in reaching the lost tribes of Calibar in West Africa. Her
preparation in the slums of Dundee was the key ingredient to her
success on the mission field - that and her tireless trust and
belief in her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He was the reason she
was there. Calibar today still remembers Mary Slessor,
affectionately known as "Ma," her influence on that area of Africa
was astounding. Superstition demanded that families kill twin
babies and murder slaves and women at funerals - the Lord Jesus
Christ that Mary Slessor brought to these people set them free from
all that. They were set free from the law of sin and death.
'Rock's own poems... show a winning empathy with children.' The
Tablet Here is a timeless collection of prayers, dealing with every
aspect of a child's life, faith, and delight in the world. Here you
will find prayers from the Bible as well as from traditional and
more modern anthologies. A great many have been specially written
for this book. One section is devoted to prayers for babies and
very young children. The others are more suitable for use with
older children, whether for reading alone, at family prayers, in
churches, or at school assemblies. The prayers are organized by
theme and carefully indexed to make the book easy to use and a joy
to browse. Since its first edition in 2003, this book has
established itself as a trusted resource among all those who say
prayers with children.
