We know about the Bible. We may know some Bible stories, or maybe
we've even read large portions for ourselves. But what it's really
all about? How do all the different pieces fit together? Without a
sense of the big story the Bible is telling, we'll miss out on the
good news God has for us. In The 30-Minute Bible, experienced Bible
teachers Craig Bartholomew and Paige Vanosky present the story of
Scripture in thirty short readings, each designed to take about
half an hour. Each includes a passage from the Bible and a short
chapter explaining how the passage fits into the Bible's wider
narrative. Written in straightforward and clear language, the
readings are accompanied by Brother Martin Erspamer's lovely
illustrations. Discover the timeless story of the Bible-in thirty
minutes a day for thirty days.
This monograph demonstrates that the books of Exodus-Numbers, taken
together, are the result of one, highly creative, hypertextual
reworking of the book of Deuteronomy. This detailed reworking
consists of around 1,200 strictly sequentially organized
conceptual, and at times also linguistic correspondences between
Exodus-Numbers and Deuteronomy. The strictly sequential,
hypertextual dependence on Deuteronomy explains numerous surprising
features of Exodus-Numbers. The critical analysis of Exodus-Numbers
as a coherently composed hypertextual work disproves hypotheses of
the existence in these writings of Priestly and non-Priestly
materials or multiple literary layers.
The KJV Transetto Text Edition is not only a new Bible but is a
unique book concept. These smart, ultra-modern books are very
compact, but nevertheless clear and easy to handle and read. They
use lightweight paper and an innovative binding style to include a
large amount of reading matter into a small, supremely portable and
easy-to-handle format. This revolutionary new publishing concept,
first launched in the Netherlands in 2009, is patented worldwide as
the dwarsligger (R). The Cambridge KJV Transetto Edition is the
first Bible to be published in this format in English. The book no
longer has a conventional left and right page. Its format is
landscape, with the text rotated 'crosswise' through 90, but when
the book is open the two pages on view form a single
portrait-format 'page' for reading: the Bible text is set in
double-column format, and is read downwards across both open pages
in the spread. Any book in this format weighs a fraction of its
standard book equivalent - and of an electronic reader too. The
combination of thin India paper and unique binding allows the books
to open flat or be easily held in one hand. They fit comfortably
into the smallest of handbags or pockets and will be ideal for
reading on the move - any time, anywhere.
The ESV Large Print Value Thinline Bible includes 10-point Bible
text, a quality TruTone cover, and a concordance-all in a portable
format that is less than 1 inch thick.
This book examines the oracle of deliverance that Yhwh communicated
to Ebed-melech, the Cushite (Jer 39,15-18). In order to comprehend
this analeptically presented promise, however, the research also
scrutinizes two other related events in Jeremiah's mission in the
context of Jer 37-39: i) the unpleasant incident in which the
Jerusalem officials maliciously threw the Lord's messenger into the
muddy cistern (Jer 38,1-6) and ii) Ebed-melech's benevolent
intervention to rescue the prophet from the water reservoir (Jer
38,7-13). In this monograph, the author uses the
historical-critical method and rhetorical & narrative analyses.
Nicky Gumbel, pioneer of Alpha - a series of sessions exploring the
Christian faith - and vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton in Kensington,
London, aids readers following the Bible in one year programme to
understand the Scriptures better. Drawing out a theme for each day
from the designated Bible readings, Gumbel's exegetical writings on
the Proverbs, Psalms and New and Old Testament excerpts are packed
with insight, wisdom and application. These accompanying reading
notes will enhance the study of anyone reading the Bible in One
Year each day.
ESV Illuminated Scripture Journal: Psalms pairs the entirety of the
book of Psalms with a lightly dotted blank page opposite each page
of Bible text and hand-lettered illustrations interspersed
throughout-providing space to creatively engage with and reflect on
the Word of God.
Available for the first time in the Anglicized Edition, and with
the Apocrypha/Deuterocanonical Books as well as centre column
cross-references, the NRSV is the standard text for all serious
Bible study. The New Revised Standard Version of the Bible is
steadily increasing in popularity. It is highly respected among
academics, including evangelicals, and used in theological colleges
across the board as the most accurate translation available. It has
been widely adopted across the Church of England and is in the
process of being adopted for use in the Catholic liturgy. The NRSV
is an accurate translation in the tradition of the King James
Version, with special sensitivity to gender inclusiveness, without
any loss of clarity, and retaining the traditional style of
referring to God as 'He' or 'Him.' Completely reset in the
highly-respected Anglicized Edition, along with the
Apocrypha/Deuterocanonical Books, this is the ideal Bible for
Catholic readers or anyone interested in these books arising out of
the intra-testamental period. Cross references make it particularly
suitable for study, as well as for personal reading and church use.
"The One Year Chronological Bible" offers a fascinating way to read
through the Bible in one year, in as little as fifteen minutes per
day Gain a better understanding of the order of biblical events and
the historical context in which they unfolded. The entire Bible
text--books, chapters, and even verses--is arranged in the order
the events actually happened. Prophetic books are interwoven with
the historical accounts they accompanied. Psalms follow the events
about which they were written. Proverbs are placed in the time they
were compiled. The life of Christ is woven into one moving story.
And Paul's letters to the young churches in the first century are
integrated into the book of Acts. Transition statements help you
understand why some Scripture portions appear where they do. You do
not have to be a Bible historian to appreciate the fascinating new
perspective waiting for you in "The One Year Chronological Bible."
It's like reading some of your favorite passages for the very first
time. This edition uses the popular New King James Version of the
Bible.
'An entertaining and insightful human story of obsession about
books.' Daily Telegraph 'A lively tale of historical innovation,
the thrill of the bibliophile's hunt, greed and betrayal.' New York
Times The never-before-told story of one extremely rare copy of the
Gutenberg Bible, and its impact on the lives of the fanatical few
who were lucky enough to own it. For rare book collectors, an
original copy of the Gutenberg Bible - there are only forty-six in
existence - is the undisputed gem of any collection. The Lost
Gutenberg recounts five centuries in the life of one particular
copy of the Bible from its very creation by Johannes Gutenberg in
Mainz, Germany, to its ultimate resting place, in a steel vault
under the protection of the Japanese government. Margaret Leslie
Davis draws readers into this incredible saga, inviting them into
the colourful lives of each of its fanatic collectors along the
way. Exploring books as objects of desire across centuries, Davis
will leave readers not only with a broader understanding of the
culture of rare book collectors, but with a deeper awareness of the
importance of books in our world.

Queen Mary's (1553-1558) persecution of her Protestant subjects
caused many to flee to the continent to avoid imprisonment or
execution. Geneva, Switzerland soon became a center for Protestant
biblical scholarship. It was there that a group of the movement's
leading lights gathered to undertake a fresh translation of the
scriptures into English, beginning in 1556. Published in 1560, the
"Geneva Bible's" popularity kept it in print until 1644 - long
after the advent of the Authorized Version (a.k.a. "King James
Version"). It was an English Bible that met the needs of both
clergy and laity. Perhaps the Geneva Bible's greatest contribution
was its commentary, which under girded the emerging practice of
sermonizing and helped foster scripture literacy.
