Playful Principles for Conscious Living What if, to lead our most fulfilling life, there was nothing to acquire, nothing to accomplish, nothing to master? What if we are already home, already whole, already complete? What if, all that is needed, is to gently set down the burden? Unburden is an invitation to examine ideas, identities and concepts that bind and limit us. We begin to access the power and potency that comes from trusting the silence underlying all thoughts and experiences. In Nithya Shanti's inimitable voice, discover profound teachings, simply told. Nithya shares anecdotes, exercises for self-discovery and pointers for awakening, through a distillation of timeless wisdom and contemporary discoveries, along with his own innovations from decades of intensive teaching and practice. Let this book provoke, challenge and inspire us to step into a realm of awareness, gratitude and joy. As an everyday companion and guide, may it take us on what may well be the most significant shift we ever experience - being happy and fulfilled for no reason.

Learning to Be - Finding Your Center After the Bottom Falls Out (Hardcover): Juanita Campbel Rasmus, Tina Knowles Lawson Learning to Be - Finding Your Center After the Bottom Falls Out (Hardcover)
Juanita Campbel Rasmus, Tina Knowles Lawson
R374 Discovery Miles 3 740 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

It felt as though every nerve in my body was popping. Imagine large strong hands slowly applying pressure while breaking a family-size package of uncooked, dry spaghetti. I was the spaghetti. Breaking down one piece at a time. This is how Juanita Rasmus begins the wise, frank, and witty account of what she later called "The Crash" and what her counselor labeled "a major depressive episode." This experience landed Juanita, a busy pastor, mother, and community leader, in bed. In addition to exhaustion and depression, on the spiritual front she experienced a dark night of the soul. When everything in her life finally came to a stop, she found that she had to learn to be-with herself and with God-all over again. Pastor Juanita writes from her life with kind attention to the life of the reader. She offers both practical and spiritual insights but never pat answers. If you are longing for a trustworthy companion through dark days, this book is here for you. Each chapter includes life-giving spiritual practices to help you discover your own new ways of being.

Integrative Spirituality - Religious Pluralism, Individuation, and Awakening (Hardcover): Patrick J. Mahaffey Integrative Spirituality - Religious Pluralism, Individuation, and Awakening (Hardcover)
Patrick J. Mahaffey
R3,907 Discovery Miles 39 070 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

In Integrative Spirituality, Patrick J. Mahaffey elucidates spirituality as a developmental process that is enhanced by integrating the teachings and practices of multiple religious traditions, Jungian depth psychology, and contemplative yoga. In the postmodern world of religious pluralism, Mahaffey compellingly argues that each of us must fashion a unique path to wholeness which integrates aspects of life and of the self that have become disconnected and disowned. Integrative Spirituality uniquely conjoins four components: exemplary religious pluralists from three traditions, individuation, the forms of contemplative Hindu yoga that have been successfully transmitted to the West, and a presentation of two models for integrating psychological growth and spiritual awakening. The book presents pioneering practitioners in each field who exemplify how we may fashion our own approach to integrating both spiritual awakening and psychological development and delineates an array of spiritual practices that integrate the somatic, psychological, interpersonal, and spiritual aspects of life. Ultimately, Mahaffey contends that integrative spirituality is a mode of being that fully embraces the divinity inherent in each of us and in the world. Integrative Spirituality will be essential reading for academics and students of Jungian and post-Jungian studies, transpersonal and Jungian psychology, and religious studies and contemplative education. It will also be of interest to analytical and depth psychologists in practice and in training, and to anyone seeking a greater understanding of spirituality, psychological growth, religious traditions, individuation, and contemplative yoga.

Hearing Voices, Demonic and Divine - Scientific and Theological Perspectives (Hardcover): Christopher C. H. Cook Hearing Voices, Demonic and Divine - Scientific and Theological Perspectives (Hardcover)
Christopher C. H. Cook
R3,913 Discovery Miles 39 130 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

The Open Access version of this book, available at www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9781472453983, has been made available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Non Commercial-No Derivative 4.0 license. Experiences of hearing the voice of God (or angels, demons, or other spiritual beings) have generally been understood either as religious experiences or else as a feature of mental illness. Some critics of traditional religious faith have dismissed the visions and voices attributed to biblical characters and saints as evidence of mental disorder. However, it is now known that many ordinary people, with no other evidence of mental disorder, also hear voices and that these voices not infrequently include spiritual or religious content. Psychological and interdisciplinary research has shed a revealing light on these experiences in recent years, so that we now know much more about the phenomenon of "hearing voices" than ever before. The present work considers biblical, historical, and scientific accounts of spiritual and mystical experiences of voice hearing in the Christian tradition in order to explore how some voices may be understood theologically as revelatory. It is proposed that in the incarnation, Christian faith finds both an understanding of what it is to be fully human (a theological anthropology), and God's perfect self-disclosure (revelation). Within such an understanding, revelatory voices represent a key point of interpersonal encounter between human beings and God.

We live in a world that seems to be on the verge of coming apart. Shootings. Killer viruses. The threat of nuclear war. All of it is just too real.

Why does the apocalypse craze in movies and video games appeal to so many people so strongly? One answer is it shows us the primal foundations of our existence. R1,473 Discovery Miles 14 730 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book compiles some of the finest writings of Sri Aurobindo (1872-1950) - the nationalist, visionary, poet-philosopher. It reflects the range, depth and outreach of the moral, intellectual and spiritual vision of this versatile and multifaceted genius. It aims at providing, at one place, access to the key concepts, tenets, and the spirit of the extraordinary range of texts authored by him. Although concretely grounded in contemporary times - with its location in a specific socio-cultural matrix - this work projects a body of writings that is certain to have lasting value. In particular, the compilation brings forth Sri Aurobindo's social vision and his role as a cultural critic: his views on ethnicity, his exposition of the key role language plays in the formation of communitarian identities, his crucial understanding of self-determination which has incidentally become an important aspect of human rights discourse today. Situating the writings in a specific intellectual, spiritual and historical context, this collection will enable readers to appreciate the overall vision of Sri Aurobindo, in what can be conceived as a caravan of history of ideas in terms of a common heritage of humankind, and recent developments in theory and disciplinary practice, especially those pertaining to consciousness and future studies.

Connecting with Nature - Earth and Humanity - What Unites Us? (Paperback): Karsten Massei Connecting with Nature - Earth and Humanity - What Unites Us? (Paperback)
Karsten Massei; Translated by Matthew Barton
R450 R406 Discovery Miles 4 060 Save R44 (10%) Ships in 9 - 15 working days

Earth and humanity are involved in a fragile interplay of physical and spiritual relationships, the full spectrum of which can only be discerned by higher, finer senses. Based on actual, living discernment rather than dogmatic ideas, Karsten Massei reveals how we can unite with nature, supporting our inner development and everyday lives. We ourselves comprise the path leading to the mysteries of the earth. Through delving into nature's secrets, paradoxically we are brought back to our own being - our soul-gold, our luminosity, but also to our shadow, lower nature. Deep encounters with the earth are thus self-encounters. --- In a series of concise and accessible chapters, Massei illumines human characteristics - our senses, the quality of our listening, our soul wounds and the possibility for transformation. Likewise, he lights up the natural world - plants and animals, but also elemental beings, spirits of trees, and the great being of the earth, Christ. Amongst a wealth of interrelated themes, the author portrays death as the doorway to a new existence, describing the relationship of the dead with the earth and humanity and speaking movingly of the healing social deed of forgiveness. Founded on first-hand research, this book is full of reverence for the hidden aspects of life and their significance for personal growth.

Choose the Life - Exploring a Faith that Embraces Discipleship (Paperback): Bill Hull, Dallas Willard Choose the Life - Exploring a Faith that Embraces Discipleship (Paperback)
Bill Hull, Dallas Willard
R547 Discovery Miles 5 470 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

"Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ."--Deitrich Bonhoeffer" Get ready to explore a faith that does not separate salvation from discipleship, but embraces the seamless journey from conversion to transformation. In "Choose the Life," discipleship expert Bill Hull breaks new ground, challenging what we've made of the gospel. He believes that the Great Commission has more to do with spiritual depth than strategies and structures. Jesus is calling us to choose the life of thinking as he thought, living as he lived, loving as he loved, ministering as he ministered, and leading as he led. Anything less is Christ-less Christianity. "This book is worth the price simply for Bill's elegant, comprehensive, penetrating five-fold definition of what a disciple is."--Brian McLaren, author of "A New Kind of Christian" "Bill Hull reminds us that being a Christian and being Christlike are synonymous. "Choose the Life" pinpoints the missing pieces of contemporary discipleship and delivers a compelling call to become a community of obedient, transparent disciples."--Judith Hougen, assistant professor of English, Northwestern College "Bill takes seriously the challenge to believe, live, love, serve, and lead like Jesus."--Alan Andrews, U. S. director, The Navigators "Through the experiences of his own journey Bill Hull challenges and, I believe, effectively guides us to see our lives formed through obediently following Jesus as opposed to a myriad of hollow options."--Bill Thrall, founding partner, Leadership Catalyst, Inc.

The Future of Ahriman and the Awakening of Souls - The Spirit-Presence of the Mystery Dramas (Paperback): Peter Selg The Future of Ahriman and the Awakening of Souls - The Spirit-Presence of the Mystery Dramas (Paperback)
Peter Selg; Translated by Paul King
R328 R296 Discovery Miles 2 960 Save R32 (10%) Ships in 9 - 15 working days

In 1919 Rudolf Steiner spoke about the future physical incarnation of the being of Ahriman. This would take place before 'a part' of the third millennium had passed, and was inevitable - but it was also necessary that people were aware of this event and recognized it, for earthly culture would be destroyed if the world were to fall completely to Ahriman. The situation we find ourselves in today shows Ahriman's unmistakable signature: the rapid destruction of nature, zoonotic diseases and pandemics, huge social inequalities, and the overall dominance of high finance. In this short book Peter Selg presents a timely overview of the challenges we face, beginning with a pithy and concise survey of Steiner's commentary on Ahriman's incarnation and the conditions that would characterize it. This is followed by a study of Ahriman's depiction in the mystery drama The Souls' Awakening. Steiner's remarkable personification of Ahriman on stage - portraying his strategies and activities - provides vital instruction for humanity. Selg concludes with an evaluation of 'the Battle for Human Intelligence' taking place in contemporary culture through materialistic ideas such as transhumanism. In their recent book Covid-19: The Great Reset, for example, Klaus Schwab and Thierry Malleret propose wholesale economic, geopolitical, environmental and technological revisions to society - ideas that need to be understood and confronted in human thought and consciousness. The Future of Ahriman is a crucial aid to comprehending our times.

R2,900 Discovery Miles 29 000 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This volume celebrates the work of Laszlo Zsolnai, a leading researcher and scholar in the field of the ethical and spiritual aspects of economic life, who has made significant contributions to the connection between ethics, spirituality, aesthetics and economic theory. The book offers a selection of essays concerned with the ethical, spiritual and aesthetic context within which economics as a social studies discipline should be situated in order to avoid the sort of dehumanising consequences that theories based on utility maximisation and rational choice necessarily entail. It presents the economic activities of human beings not as some sort of preordained obedience to universal laws that operate independently of other human concerns, but, rather, as a part of the human desire for the Aristotelian good life. It looks at the various considerations -moral, spiritual and aesthetic - that take part in the formation of economic decisions in sharp contrast with theories that purport to explain economic phenomena solely on the basis of utility maximisation.

Natural Burial - Traditional - Secular Spiritualities and Funeral Innovation (Paperback, New): Douglas Davies, Hannah Rumble Natural Burial - Traditional - Secular Spiritualities and Funeral Innovation (Paperback, New)
Douglas Davies, Hannah Rumble
R1,186 Discovery Miles 11 860 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

From the 1990s the British developed an interest in
natural burial, also known as woodland, green, or ecological burial. Natural
burial constitutes part of a long, historical legacy for British funeral
innovation; from Victorian cemetery monuments and garden cemeteries through the
birth and rise of cremation to the many things done with cremated remains. The
book sets natural burial in the context of such creative dealing with death,
grief, mourning, and the celebration of life. Themes from sociology and
anthropology combine with psychological issues and theological ideas to show
how human emotions take shape and help people consider their own death whilst
also dealing with the death of those they love.
The authors explore the variety of motivations for
people to engage with natural burial and its popular appeal, using interviews
with people having a relationship with one natural burial site created by the
Church of England but open to all. They illustrate people's understandings of
life and death in the sacred, secular and mixed worlds of modern Britain.
