Econometric Modelling of Stock Market Intraday Activity (Hardcover, 2001 ed.): Luc Bauwens, Pierre Giot Econometric Modelling of Stock Market Intraday Activity (Hardcover, 2001 ed.)
Luc Bauwens, Pierre Giot
R2,755 Discovery Miles 27 550 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Over the past 25 years, applied econometrics has undergone tremen dous changes, with active developments in fields of research such as time series, labor econometrics, financial econometrics and simulation based methods. Time series analysis has been an active field of research since the seminal work by Box and Jenkins (1976), who introduced a gen eral framework in which time series can be analyzed. In the world of financial econometrics and the application of time series techniques, the ARCH model of Engle (1982) has shifted the focus from the modelling of the process in itself to the modelling of the volatility of the process. In less than 15 years, it has become one of the most successful fields of 1 applied econometric research with hundreds of published papers. As an alternative to the ARCH modelling of the volatility, Taylor (1986) intro duced the stochastic volatility model, whose features are quite similar to the ARCH specification but which involves an unobserved or latent component for the volatility. While being more difficult to estimate than usual GARCH models, stochastic volatility models have found numerous applications in the modelling of volatility and more particularly in the econometric part of option pricing formulas. Although modelling volatil ity is one of the best known examples of applied financial econometrics, other topics (factor models, present value relationships, term structure 2 models) were also successfully tackled."

R1,769 Discovery Miles 17 690 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book provides an investor-friendly presentation of the premises and applications of the quantitative finance models governing investment in one asset class of publicly traded stocks, specifically real estate investment trusts (REITs). The models provide highly advanced analytics for REIT investment, including: portfolio optimization using both historic and predictive return estimation; model backtesting; a complete spectrum of risk assessment and management tools with an emphasis on early warning systems, risk budgeting, estimating tail risk, and factor analysis; derivative valuation; and incorporating ESG ratings into REIT investment. These quantitative finance models are presented in a unified framework consistent with dynamic asset pricing (rational finance). Given its scope and practical orientation, this book will appeal to investors interested in portfolio optimization and innovative tools for investment risk assessment.

Call Auction Trading - New Answers to Old Questions (Hardcover, 2002 ed.): Robert A. Schwartz, John Aidan Byrne, Antoinette... Call Auction Trading - New Answers to Old Questions (Hardcover, 2002 ed.)
Robert A. Schwartz, John Aidan Byrne, Antoinette Colaninno
R2,745 Discovery Miles 27 450 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book is based on the proceedings of The Electronic Call Auction: New Answers to Old Questions, a conference hosted by the Zicklin School of Business on May 16, 2000. The text includes the edited transcripts of the panel discussions and separate addresses by three major industry executives Douglas M. Atkin, formerly President and CEO, Instinet Corporation; Kenneth D. Pasternak, formerly President and CEO, Knight/Trimark Group, Inc., and William J. Brodsky, Chairman and CEO, Chicago Board Options Exchange. The electronic call auction is an important trading vehicle in many market centers around the world, but is not well understood in the US. What are call auctions? How should they be designed and integrated with continuous trading in a hybrid market structure? As call auctions play a more central role in the US markets, how will they affect market quality in terms of transparency, order flow consolidation, and price discovery? These and other critical questions were asked at the conference while the efficiency of the US markets was broadly assessed.

Interest Rate Modeling. Volume 3 - Products and Risk Management (Hardcover): Leif B.G. Andersen, Vladimir V. Piterbarg Interest Rate Modeling. Volume 3 - Products and Risk Management (Hardcover)
Leif B.G. Andersen, Vladimir V. Piterbarg
R2,651 Discovery Miles 26 510 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The three volumes of Interest Rate Modeling present a comprehensive and up-to-date treatment of techniques and models used in the pricing and risk management of fixed income securities. Written by two leading practitioners and seasoned industry veterans, this unique series combines finance theory, numerical methods, and approximation techniques to provide the reader with an integrated approach to the process of designing and implementing industrial-strength models for fixed income security valuation and hedging. Aiming to bridge the gap between advanced theoretical models and real-life trading applications, the pragmatic, yet rigorous, approach taken in this book will appeal to students, academics, and professionals working in quantitative finance. The first half of Volume III contains a detailed study of several classes of fixed income securities, ranging from simple vanilla options to highly exotic cancelable and path-dependent derivatives. The analysis is done in product-specific fashion covering, among other subjects, risk characterization, calibration strategies, and valuation methods. In its second half, Volume III studies the general topic of derivative portfolio risk management, with a particular emphasis on the challenging problem of computing smooth price sensitivities to market input perturbations.

Trustees are responsible for the stewardship of assets and for implementing the mission of their endowment or foundation. Almost invariably trustees delegate the management of those assets to agents who are investment professionals.

In this increasingly sophisticated and litigious financial world there can be a growing gap of comprehension, exacerbated by mathematics and jargon, between trustees who are responsible and agents who are accountable.

This book aims to fill that gap. The book draws on the author's own experience and research and that of generations of investment professionals and academics to explain the fundamentals of investment strategy.

Key features are therefore: Foreword by George Keane (founder and former president of Commonfund, won the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award from Foundation & Endowment Money Management) one of the icons of endowment fund management in the USAimed at professional trusteesAn holistic approach to strategyAvoidance of jargon and mathematicsFocus on principles underlying asset strategy

An honest depiction of the challenges of trading and a clear explanation of what it takes to succeed

Trading tends to be a winner-take-all activity where a small number of traders are very successful, while the majority either lose money or generate relatively small profits. In "The Mental Strategies of Top Traders," author Ari Kiev identifies and analyzes the characteristics of successful traders and shows you how to cultivate these same characteristics.

Successful trading, Kiev asserts, requires an unusual and sometimes contradictory blend of intellectual and psychological abilities, including the willingness to take risks, but in a very controlled manner; the discipline to develop high-conviction trading ideas in the face of unpredictable markets and incomplete information; as well as a strong drive to win, but also accept failure. Here, you'll discover how to achieve all this, and much more.Provides advice and solutions for traders struggling with today's volatile and stressful marketsAuthoritatively identifies key mental strategies of top tradersWritten by Ari Kiev, a highly respected figure in the professional trading communityAnalysis is supported by comments from contemporary traders and portfolio managers, many of whom struggled with the markets of 2008

Economic Warfare - Secrets of Wealth Creation in the Age of Welfare Politics (Hardcover, New): Z Abdelnour Economic Warfare - Secrets of Wealth Creation in the Age of Welfare Politics (Hardcover, New)
Z Abdelnour
R785 R689 Discovery Miles 6 890 Save R96 (12%) Ships in 18 - 22 working days

New insights for investors and business people looking to create wealth in the turbulent post-crisis world

In a no holds barred expose of the 2008 financial meltdown from the inside, Ziad K. Abdelnour argues that the political and financial elites have done nothing to fix the structural problems and instead have worsened the situation. By creating more market bubbles, they are actually waging a war on the most productive members of society.

For investors, business people, and entrepreneurs that need to navigate the troubled geopolitical waters of the post-crisis world, Abdelnour offers several solutions, including looking at the world anew and understanding that the federal government's primary objective is to promote the creation of an environment conducive to the creation of wealth not job creation, not bailouts, not subsidies, not expansion of the federal bureaucracy, and not providing lifetime support to those who choose not to take advantage of the innumerable opportunities that exist in this nation for them to create a better, more productive life for themselves.

Written for investors that need to navigate the troubled geopolitical waters of the post-crisis world

- Offers "out of the box" investment tactics and strategies to outsmart the system

- Describes political and business solutions that anyone can engage in to restore freedom and prosperity

The author is President and CEO of Blackhawk Partners, Inc., a private family office that has two major lines of business, private equity investments and advisory services, and physical commodities trading

Compelling and persuasive, "Economic Warfare" reveals that wealth can be created in the new, post-crisis world, but investors need to understand that the rules of the game have changed.

The Space Value of Money - Rethinking Finance Beyond Risk & Time (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022): Armen V. Papazian The Space Value of Money - Rethinking Finance Beyond Risk & Time (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2022)
Armen V. Papazian
R1,394 Discovery Miles 13 940 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The Space Value of Money introduces a fresh and innovative perspective on sustainability and finance. It expands our financial value framework, heretofore built around risk and time, by factoring in space, as an analytical dimension and our physical context. The proposed principle and metrics entrench our responsibility for space impact into our value equations, making finance inherently sustainable and acting as a theoretical bridge between core finance theory and the growing field of sustainable finance or ESG integration. The book offers a novel approach to value design, measurement, and creation, discussing the theoretical, mathematical, institutional, technological and data elements of the transformation. The Space Value of Money principle and metrics offer us the opportunity to adjust our financial value framework and transform human productivity in line with our sustainability targets. They also enable the design and engineering of the financial instruments that can help us address our evolutionary challenges/investment, like the transition to Net Zero. "Every once in a while, a book comes along that makes a fundamental contribution that is both profound and practical. A book that every member of the National Space Council, including the NASA Administrator and the Space Force chief of space operations should read. The Space Value of Money will be of interest to ESG and impact investors, government regulators, financial theorists, and outer space enthusiasts." -Lt Col Peter Garretson, Senior Fellow in Defense Studies at the American Foreign Policy Council "No doubt, the pressing environmental challenges we face make the concept of the space impact of investments even more compelling." -Dr. Pascal Blanque, Chairman of Amundi Institute, Former Group CIO of Amundi Asset Management "The Space Value of Money brings much needed conceptual rigour, whilst further advocating the case for a new paradigm shift in financial valuation. This work gives us the lasting frameworks that aggregate impact across all spatial dimensions. Dr. Papazian culminates over ten years of research in this rich book, providing the springboard for further innovation and system implementation in this area." -Domenico Del Re, Director, Sustainability and Climate Change, PwC "Enthralling and captivating. Papazian offers a clear, thorough, and comprehensive discussion. The Space Value of Money gives us an opportunity to reframe our thinking and to explore what is possible. A great read!" -Daud Vicary, Founding Trustee of the Responsible Finance and Investment Foundation "Armen has developed a novel way to create financial models that are better suited to dealing with the many parameters required if we are to properly consider environmental factors and sustainability in economics and finance. I have found this engaging and look forward to seeing its future use." -Dr. Keith Carne, First Bursar, King's College, Cambridge University

Closed-End Investment Companies - Issues and Answers (Hardcover, 1992 ed.): Seth Anderson, Gustav V. R Born Closed-End Investment Companies - Issues and Answers (Hardcover, 1992 ed.)
Seth Anderson, Gustav V. R Born
R2,735 Discovery Miles 27 350 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Closed-End Investment Companies (CEICs) were the dominant form of investment companies in the United States during the early part of this century, but interest in them declined after the 1929 stock market crash. Since 1985, however, there has been a significant revival of interest in CEICs. A substantial amount of academic research has focused on the nature of closed-end funds, discounts and premiums, and on the share price behavior of these firms, which often results in the prices differing from the net asset value of the shares. This book is designed for the academic researcher interested in CEICs and the practitioner interested in using CEICs as an investment vehicle. The authors summarize the evolution of CEICs, present the factors that cause CEIC shares to trade at different levels from their net asset values, provide a complete survey of the academic literature on this topic, and summarize the current state of research on CEICs.

Beat the Forex Dealer - An Insider's Look into Trading Today's Foreign Exchange Market (Hardcover): A. Silvani Beat the Forex Dealer - An Insider's Look into Trading Today's Foreign Exchange Market (Hardcover)
A. Silvani
R1,161 Discovery Miles 11 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The foreign-exchange market is often referred to as the "Slaughterhouse" where novice traders go to get 'chopped up'. It is one of egos and money, where millions of dollars are won and lost every day and phones are routinely thrown across hectic trading desks. This palpable excitement has led to the explosion of the retail FX market, which has unfortunately spawned a new breed of authors and gurus more than happy to provide misleading and often downright fraudulent information by promising traders riches while making forex trading 'easy'.

Well I'll let you in on a little secret: there is nothing easy about trading currencies. If you don't believe me then stop by Warren Buffet's office and ask him how he could lose $850m betting on the dollar or ask George Soros why his short yen bets cost him $600m not once but "twice" in 1994. What's wrong with these guys, don't they read FX books?

In reality, the average client's trading approach combined with the unscrupulous practices of some brokers make spot FX trading more akin to the games found on the Vegas strip than to anything seen on Wall St. The FX market is littered with the remains of day traders and genius 'systems, ' and to survive in the long-run traders have to realize that they are playing a game where the cards are clearly stacked against them.

Have you ever had your stop hit at a price that turned out to be the low/high for the day? Bad luck perhaps? Maybe. What if it happens more than once? Do you ever feel like the market is out to get you? Well guess what, in this Zero Sum game it absolutely is.

Covering the day-to-day mechanics of the FX market and the unsavoury dealings going on, "Beat the Forex Dealer" offerstraders the market-proven trading techniques needed to side-step dealer traps and develop winning trading methods. Learn from an industry insider the truth behind dirty dealer practices including: stop-hunting, price shading, trading against clients and 'no dealing desk' realities.

Detailing the dealer-inspired trading techniques developed by MIGFX Inc, consistently ranked among the world's leading currency trading firms, the book helps turn average traders into winning traders; and in a market with a 900ss rate winning traders are in fact quite rare! More than just a simple manual, "Beat the Forex Dealer" brings to life the excitement of the FX market by delivering insights into some of the greatest trading triumphs and highlighting legendary disasters; all written in an easy to read style.

Make no mistake about it there is a lot of money to be made in currency trading, you just have to know where to look. Sidestepping simple dealer traps is one way of improving your daily p&l, but it is surely not the only one. Successful trading comes down to taking care of the details, which means skipping the theoretical stuff and providing only up-to-date, real-life examples while sharing the FX trading tips that have proved so profitable over the years. By stripping away the theory and getting down to the core of trading, you too will find yourself on the way to beating the forex dealer!

An in-depth look at the best ways to navigate the post-reform world of derivatives and futures

The derivatives market is one of the largest, and most important financial markets in the world. It's also one of the least understood. Today we are witnessing the unprecedented reform and reshaping of this market, and along with these events, the entire life cycle of a derivatives transaction has been affected. Accordingly, nearly all market participants in the modern economy need to view the handling of risk by derivatives in a very different way.

Many aspects of financial services reform are based on a belief that derivatives caused the Great Recession of 2008. While the difficulties we now face cannot be blamed solely on derivatives, the need to understand this market, and the financial products that trade within it, has never been greater. "The Post-Reform Guide to Derivatives and Futures" provides straightforward descriptions of these important investment products, the market in which they trade, and the law that now, after July 16, 2011, governs their use in America and creates challenges for investors throughout the world. Author Gordon Peery is an attorney who works exclusively in the derivatives markets and specializes in derivatives and futures reform and market structure. Since representing clients in Congressional hearings involving Enron Corp., he has developed extensive experience in this field. With this guide, he reveals how derivatives law, and market practice throughout the world, began to change in historic ways beginning in 2011, and what you must do to keep up with these changes.Explains what derivatives and futures are, who trades them, and what must be done to manage risk in the post reform worldAccurately reflects the futures and derivatives markets as they exist today and how they will be transformed by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection ActHighlights the risks and common disputes regarding derivatives and futures, and offers recommendations for best practices in light of the evolving law governing derivatives

The financial crisis has changed the rules of Wall Street, especially when it comes to derivatives and futures. "The Post-Reform Guide to Derivatives and Futures" will help you navigate this evolving field and put you in a better position to make the most informed decisions within it.
