The Old 14th is a classic opening play in checkers. Peter Doran has
brought together over 500 variations in one book, making it easy
for checkers players to explore the best way to integrate this move
into their own game play.
This book lists all 9-letter words with J, Q, X and Z. It also has
9-letter words that contain 2, 3 and 4 S's. And, it lists words for
some duplicate, all triplicate and even some quadruplicate letters.
Finally, it has 9-letter words that end with the letters A through
Z (except for the words ending with the letters D, E, L, N, R, S, T
and Y).
This book contains all of the Scrabble words between 2 and 9
letters in length that contain a J, K, Q, X or Z in them. Included
are bingo words of 7, 8 and 9 letters in length.
"Bingo with Notes" is a bingo based game. Music notes are drawn
instead of numbers. It is important to identify the position of the
notes. Fortunately the notes are always on the musical staff
composed of five lines. The staff is their house.
A key is used to enter into a house, the G key (treble clef) for
example. Some notes are comfortably placed in a little space
between two lines whereas others are cut into two by the line, poor
notes One note perches on top of the staff. Another hangs
underneath as a cherry. C is a little further below at the bottom
and can be recognized due to its hat.
To play bingo with notes you don't have to know the names of the
notes right away. You may take your time to learn them while
playing. The more names you know the easier it is to win.
All the materials required for the game are ready to be cut and
plasticized if necessary.

In The Inferno of Checkers, W. R. Fraser discusses how to play in
"Two-Move," "Three-Move" and "Go As You Please" checkers. The
former involve pre-arranged (but randomly assigned) moves for the
first two or three turns of the game, which is intended to keep
play fresh. Fraser colorfully utilizes the metaphor of Dante's
Inferno to describe the heavenly ease of free-play checkers, the
purgatory of Two-Move, and the hell of Three-Move checkers.
Champion checkers player Millard Hopper wrote this informative
guide to another popular board game, backgammon. Hopper covers game
play, strategies, and tactics simply but in detail (and with plenty
of illustrations). He notes: "Backgammon, while holding a wealth of
strategy and skill does not require the exacting concentration of
chess and checkers. While luck plays a great part in the results of
the game where players are evenly matched, still, a skillful player
when paired against a haphazard one, will far excel his
inexperienced adversary." Hopper gives the student of backgammon
the tools needed to increase his skill on the board.
