Author Connie Summers embarks on a true personal journey taken from her journals. The death of her husband throws her into turmoil. Each day, uncontrollable emotions and despair send her spiraling downward deeper into despondency. She fears she may give in to insanity. Unwilling to deal with problems or people, she works all day and falls with exhaustion into bed each night. Ultimately she sits at rock bottom, nowhere to go except up. She looks up, realizing she has separated herself from God. Deep down, she desires God's spiritual renewal. It is then she begins leaving the difficult, lonely, sorrowful grieving journey and steps on a firm, solid path. Her spiritual journey has begun. This journey reunites her with the promises and power of God, as he heals her broken heart and soul; safe in his everlasting arms once more. The author offers the grieving person specific ways in which each can overcome the pain and sufferings of grief: to look to the Divine Healer, Almighty God. Also offered are ways to help a grieving person. "What an outstanding book of hope and comfort. It will definitely be recommended to other counselors and hurting hearts." -Katherine Pell, certifi ed NANC counselor
Surely God has a sense of humor or why would He have made us with the ability to laugh? Why, too, has He made it so that a little laughter eases a lot of tension? No, it may not change the situation. But it can refresh and give a new perspective. The daily grind of life can get pretty rough at times and we find ourselves needing a drop of oil in our machinery. "A Drop of Oil" is meant to lighten another's load and provide encouragement thru humor to sooth the friction that comes from the daily grind. Seeing humor in some of these events that I clearly didn't plan, has proven to be just that drop of oil.
This reflection, though brutally honest, provides insight to the conflicts that face the children of ministers, pastors, religious clergy, deacons, and church leaders. It challenges fellow Christians, to nurture the lives of these children without punishing judgements. This work provokes congregants and leaders to nurture preachers' kids, and provide heartfelt guidance and vigilant prayer. It encourages prayer- warriors, to guard over the hearts of your preachers' kids. The book leads the reader toward self-examination and self-correction, love and respect of oneself. The author makes a noteworhty disclaimer, 'I do not have a license in counseling, a degree in psychology or theology. I am not an elder or deacon in any church, nor do I hold office as a board member on any religious organization. I am not a minister, pastor or evangelist. I am neither an acclaimed author nor an authority of any kind. Forgive me if I have misquoted scripture or taken verses out of context. I hope the Bible verses I have quoted throughout this booklet would not seem preachy; but then again, I am a preacher's daughter-smile. I trust that, these scriptures will grab at your hearts and soothe your soul-wounds. I hope they will provide a new perspective and they would be as you have never heard them or thought of them before'. The author writes from a from a unique perspective that of a peracher's kid. 'I am the voice of a group that is easily misunderstood and even shunned. We are the group that, 'should know better'. Just being born into the subculture of 'preachers' kids' we are automatically judged by all, (the righteous and the unrighteous alike). We are 'expected to...' by default, 'be good, be upright, make no mistakes, be all things to all men all of the time. We are to be mature in all judgments from the moment of birth, and on and on it goes. Few can comprehend our journey toward our Father on a road less traveled'. This journey will be enlightening and comforting to all who read it. It will bring hope to those who are confused and lost. The book although empathetic to all parties, makes all accountable for their behaviors towards others and to the Heavenly Father. It is with great love and sensitivity that the author leads the reaader to finding relationship with Jesus. Just for a moment the reader can walk in the shoes of peachers' kids with understanding and empathy. It brings much-needed direction and guidance. The author attempts to bridge the gap between 'all of you' and 'preachers' kids. It also attempts to bridge the disonnect between preachers' kids and Jesus. This work is raw and honest as well as a relection of a lost generation who need to know the true power of redemption and the priceless gift of grace and love.

First, I want to give thanks to God; for all things are possible through Christ who strengthens me. Again, without spiritual inspiration and gaining strength through him to withstand many storms there would be no contents for either book. The first book, "My Inner Soul," exhibited years of heartaches and feelings of desertion. I chose "The Open Door" as this title because it, not only, closed that door but also provided me with an open mind to see how others view life through their eyes.

One woman's story of contracting HIV and how it is not the end of the world......... This book is my story. The opinions expressed are that of my own and hold weight only in my world. My world of HIV and all that it takes to overcome something that was once considered a fatal disease. A disease that still carries stigma and fear to the public. A walking death sentence that people don't understand doesn't have to be that way. My hope is to open the eyes, ears and hearts of all those who read it. To educate the uneducated over a disease that is still as prominent today as the day it started to invade our lives, taking those we loved. I want to share my deepest feelings, my darkest moments, my dreams and my live story in hopes to make a difference on how people view this disease. To gain insight to what it takes to walk in the shoes of someone who has a terminal illness that there is still no cure for. To let it be known my name is Liza I am Hiv+ and that's ok.......................
This is a hard-hitting devotional challenge that was written not for just the sake of reading, but in the spirit of provoking a generation of believers to good works and to a deeper relationship with their God. In it you will find teachings on the life of the believer that reciprocate your love for Him. For example: forgiveness, love for enemies, sacrificial love, repentance, submission to the spirit, and a deeper commitment to your God-given purpose.
One of the most unanswered questions in the world today is "why." Why did God create this universe and everything in it? Why did God create the angels and every soul? Why does God want each soul to join him in heaven? In "A Message for the Soul of Man, " author John D. Powers answers these and other questions relating to our souls, our creation, and our life's purpose. After receiving a message from God many years ago, Powers researched Bible scripture to validate this important communication. Now, Powers shares the full message he received and the implications it carries for the souls of mankind: God wants a personal relationship with us, and he wants every soul to be saved.Through thought-provoking discussion and testimony, "A Message for the Soul of Man" refreshes our knowledge about God, ourselves, and the world; it helps assess where we are in relation to the world and its development. Powers describes how we are called to examine ourselves, learn about our soul, and discover our purpose in life. We have the power and the choice to determine what will happen to our immortal soul after death.
The style and layout of this book greatly enhance one's ability to grasp the real truth the author seeks to bring to the reader's attention. This book will likely turn out to be the most consoling and uplifting for the bereaved that has ever been published. Plainly and undeniably, this book shows that no one goes to heaven or hell ahead of others. Anyone who believes the whole counsel of the Bible will also accept this work. It is literally Bible centered. It points to passages of Scripture that reveal the whole truth about the status of the dead. The author actually shows that God has designed the human being so as to experience not one moment between death and resurrection. The author does not build any points upon philosophical reasoning or deduction, but he shows that no one remains dead longer than another due to moving from time to eternity. Almost anyone will lose all fear of death, and the degree of dread and grief will also be lessened significantly as a result of reading this book. It covers not just life after death, but also explains why natural death is necessary. The book covers this in such a manner that reveals the necessity. One gets to see that physical death is the greatest grace God has bestowed upon fallen man, saved the shed blood of Christ Jesus. One shall plainly understand why God allowed man to be tempted by Satan in the first place. This book is among the most compact, yet, simple and short in word count one will likely encounter. It contains a chapter designed to console the bereaved who may not be in a position to read the whole book at that moment.
Each WORD from God is like an acorn fallen from the oak tree. An acorn doesn't look like much, little and hard crusted However, within this acorn lies all the DNA to become a mighty tree. In this creative endeavor, I have compiled 40 words which I feel have the power to challenge, affirm, and strengthen every seeker who is willing to travel this journey. These words are not to be read from beginning to end like any other book. Rather prayerfully ask God for which WORD you NEED. And when guided to that word, let it soak into your heart. Let it breathe within you. Live with it for awhile. I spent a whole season of Lent with the word GLORY, or a summer with the word TRUST. This resource has helped me to "crawl into the acorn" and really dwell with the word. Inside, I found a sacred place where my spirit would find quiet rest and adventure. When all else around me was confused and agitated ... here I would find peace ... and like the acorn ... I grew May these words bring you ever closer to the ONE who created you and desires for you more than you could ever imagine In reading the introduction to this wonderful book, I was visibly moved by the words I was reading. There is a power and a peace in opening a page of Patti's book and letting it take the reader into a quiet place. "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest." (Mk.6:31) This is a book that is like a well of spiritual refreshment ready for you to dive into its soothing depths at any reading. Tom Peterson Executive Director ACTS Missions San Antonio, Tx

One Man's Adventure in Faith...
Throughout his childhood and during his twenty years of professional service in the New Zealand Army, author Michael J. Roberts repeatedly heard a message: grown men don't cry. To cope with life's ups and downs, Roberts put on a mask and effectively concealed his emotions behind it-that is, until he was diagnosed with cancer. In Grown Men Don't Cry, Roberts shares his story and describes how he found inner peace by allowing himself to cry and by turning to be Jesus to be saved. This memoir narrates his personal journey as he faced recovery from a major operation, the fight against late stage-three cancer, radiation, and chemotherapy and ensuing depression. He tells how through these challenges and despair he found hope and God. A story about one man's triumph over great odds and the fear of death, Grown Men Don't Cry shows that no matter the despair or the pain, one must always have hope.
If you are interested in religion, or in enriching your own religion, or in searching for a religion that suits you, you will enjoy this book. It is the story of the author's religious journey in stories, poems and sermons. Early in life, her father took her brother, the oldest sibling, to one church, and she and her two older sisters went with their mother to another church. But, she recalls that her first significant religious experience happened at home when she was alone. The author's spiritual growth began in this religiously divided family. She found her way, slowly and questioning, to a different religion and to her own theology. The fruits of her journey are, basically, what the book is about - poems and sermons. The poems chronicle the changes that occur in her life through this questioning: the meaning of life, relationships, love, nature, the seasons, and holidays. Writing and delivering sermons involve the head and the heart, knowledge and intuition, sensitivity and frankness. These sermons demonstrate the author's commitment to a religion that fits her science, not a separation between the two. The sermons are about how to live in this world with all of its complexities, while understanding that not only do religions differ widely, but so do individual theologies, convictions, and personalities. The goal of the sermons is to help us all make this world a better place to live by respecting the worth and dignity of every person with justice, equity, and compassion; engaging in an ongoing search for truth and meaning; exercising our conscience and the democratic process; and acknowledging the interdependent web of all existence. |
