Whether you are seeking a closer relationship with God, or just want to know what unfolds through the pages of this book, Have You Talked about God Today? can guide you to the place where you can find reassurance and gain the insight to know that you have the key to releasing yourself from every desolate place in your life.
Ephesians tells us what God has given to us by grace, because of His own devotion toward His family, to involve us in His glory. Unlike the other epistles, Ephesians does not chide the Church for anything. It is concerned with informing us about the richness of eternal life and inheritance that has been bestowed on us by the generosity of God. Ephesians gives us a unique look at the heart of God and how marvelously He has set it up for us in His family and His Kingdom to share in His wisdom, His power, and His love because that is what He wanted to do. We have not deserved it and we have not invoked it by our actions or our faith. God has done it all because it pleased Him to do it. We are accepted in the beloved family of God because He has made us to be accepted. Ephesians proceeds to tell us what this language means in terms of our lives and relationship to God now. The magnitude of this grace and glory is staggering:

The gist of it is this: be a man, be a friend, be a leader, understand your times and what you should be doing. We'll look to the Bible and David's Mighty Men for insight, instruction, and motivation. Let your journey to insight and action begin
Three Minutes With God was written for busy people -those who can't always make the time for devotions, but who realize the value it can add to their quality of life. The methodology is simple - read, reflect and respond. The scripture and the devotion are the same for the entire week, and there's an opportunity for journaling and praying, as well as a call to action. The book is a practical resource that is easy to use. The reader, rather than feeling burdened by another task, will be encouraged and excited by the opportunity to slow down for a moment with God-three minutes to be exact.

Life is all about being successful and happy. Many of us have everything and yet find the real happiness missing. We are constantly in pursuit of that joy which has eluded us forever, thus far. When we realize our true nature and origin, it enables our progression towards attaining a happy and fearless state in life. Each one of us is a divine Soul; unborn, unchanging, immutable and eternal; an inseparable potency of that Supreme God, who dwells in us eternally. Though each one of us has the potential to experience a divine existence, being immortals, we have chosen to take birth in this mortal world; taking birth to die and dying to take birth again, in some 8.4 million bodies. There is a mismatch in what is happening to us. We are immortals, but the bodies we acquire in this world are not. We can attain the divine, eternal world of God, if we realize our imperishable relationship with God, who alone can grant us the state we all seek. With that realization, we can transcend causes and effects of this karmic world, overcoming grief and pain. We not only achieve material success, but also live a useful life, for the self, for our families and for the society.
When I was in my early forties, I began writing a regular column for the newspaper sent to Episcopalians in the diocese of Chicago. In Faithwalk, I tried to describe my struggles as a believing Christian set against my background as a lawyer, single parent, son of aging parents, and sinner. This venture in self-analysis continued a process of trying to square my life with God's call to a Christian begun many years earlier, but the writing was, I believe, an insight into how God works in all lives. Though written from a Christian perspective, these essays should appeal to anyone struggling with his or her faith in a world that seems spinning out of control. And I believe that God uses nonbelievers as a fulcrum to test our own belief. Now in my early sixties, after the columns collected dust, I reread them, and I think they stand the test of time. So, I have decided to publish them in a book, adding a bit of commentary to provide the context. They have been arranged, not in the order they were written, but rather according to topic, topics suggested by the biblical narrative by which the Creator of the universe loved us so much that he sent his only Son to die for us. I hope you enjoy them.
Joao de Deus Brasil's book comprises two independent but related works: Why I Believe in God and Atheism: a Self-Delusion. In Why I Believe in God, the author reveals the origins of his faith whereas in Atheism: a Self-Delusion he refutes atheists' arguments expressed by their current world leader, Richard Dawkins, in his best-seller God, a Delusion. Regarding the renowned biologist's ideas, Joao de Deus states: In his book, Richard Dawkins does not provide any theory capable of scientifically justifying his negation of God's existence. And besides, he does not put forward any evidence whatsoever, either scientific or empirical, in support of that nonexistence. Between the lines of his own words, one can clearly see his subconscious knowledge about the life of the spirit, anterior and posterior to material life. By analyzing his quotations of other wise, monistic men, without even excluding the magnificent Albert Einstein, one can clearly perceive that they themselves have this subconscious knowledge, and they reveal it as they express their thoughts. Materialism is, therefore, a delusion. The true monist does not exist, for all of us have subconscious knowledge of our spiritual existence before, during, and after our material lives. We express ourselves according to this knowledge, whoever we are: believers or skeptics, intellectuals, scientists, or illiterate peasants. In the same way, we are also aware of the existence of God, and that's why faith is revealed in children. For the same reason, among many others as we have seen, faith is revealed in all peoples and cultures, with no exception. These realities, perfectly clear for those who want to see, provide irrefutable, absolute proof that atheism, like materialism and monism, is a self-delusion.

When I received news of an "incurable" cancer recurrence, I naturally assumed it was the will of God. I was forty-eight years young and determined to accept whatever came my way. But there's a different mindset required when you are either accepting death or preparing for battle. In this search for meaning and direction, I found hope, permission, and the power to choose life. As a two-time cancer conqueror, Doreen understands the ups, downs, fears, and concerns of those struggling through disease. Combining her expertise in goal-setting and effective thinking skills with the knowledge and power of Scripture, Doreen offers seven critical choices to co-create an environment for healing. Most people hope and pray for healing but subconsciously sabotage their own wellness. They spend more time worrying and talking about the disease than their vision of health. It's vital they learn to manage their thoughts, emotions and self-talk in a manner consistent with what they want. The Mind to Heal is book two of the HEALED series. It focuses on our role and responsibility to receive healing. It provides tools, principles, and strategies for how to think victoriously to overcome disease.

Celebration: Eucharistic Faith and Practice surveys the Bible's witnesses to God's interactions with his people. It sketches the contours of the theological disagreements that have beset the Church in light of attempts to incorporate Aristotelian philosophy into its sacramental theology. Author Bruce Upham presents a way past the conflict. He proposes that Christians turn their attention to Jesus Christ's promises to be present bodily in the Eucharist and to his calling to his followers to become his body-his arms and legs-through the celebration of the Eucharist for the sake of the Holy Spirit's mission. Working from a variety of sources, Celebration draws upon highlights of the scriptural testimony to the presence and work of God, references to the Church's history of theology, and insights from the work of philosophers. It weaves together these strands to create a compact presentation of a theologically defensible understanding of the real presence, without rearguing the issues that cluster around Aristotle's philosophy of being. Whether you have found yourself living according to the Catholic perspective or the Protestant view of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, Celebration extends the hope of discovering a way to transcend past conflicts and to return, instead, to the joy of celebrating Christ's eucharistic gift in both faith and practice. |
