Turner Acryl Gouache is a highly-pigmented opaque paint which can be thinned with water but which dries quickly to a water-resistant, matte finish.

Sennelier uses the same premium quality pigments in this line of egg tempera as they do in their oil paints, assuring the same unequaled vibrancy and brilliance as in the Sennelier oils. It is bound with an centuries old egg emulsion recipe, giving a satin-matt finish that is water resistant when dry. Sennelier egg tempera have working qualities and a finish that are only found in authentic egg tempera made in this traditional manner. These delicate colours hold their brush strokes, and do not change when dry. They can be worked with a brush or a palette knife (diluted with water) on non-greasy supports like acrylic primed canvas or paper. Preliminary sketches can be drawn on canvases, followed by oil paints. Pronounced impasto techniques are not recommended for egg tempera.

Varnished egg tempera paintings look like oil paintings when varnished. It is recommended to give a finished egg tempera painting a coating of charcoal or pastel fixative before applying a final oil paint picture varnish.

The Caran d'Ache Eco Gouache range contains 18 colours of solvent- and allergen-free, opaque and matt-drying gouache paints, plus four fluorescent colours. These vibrant water-based paints are manufactured in Switzerland from 80% natural ingredients and are designed for use in art schools and for artistic or crafting projects at home. The colour range offers a comprehensive palette from which to mix any colour you desire, and because they have a high pigment concentration, they have great covering power, even at low concentrations.These paints have a matt finish when dry and are opaque (even when heavily diluted). They have a thick, soft consistency and are easy to apply. Lascaux Gouache is a unique acrylic-modified tempera paint for use in art and design as well as in education. This colour programme consists of 34 balanced hues, including silver and gold. Good quality gouache colour is a combination of pigment and gum arabic. Gum arabic is the binder that holds the pigment, giving it that perfect creamy 'flowing' consistency. (NB some cheaper brands may have chalk added to the pigment which in turn effects the 'flow and the brilliance of colour'). As a result of the high level of pigmentation Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache dries to a matt finish. This reduces the reflection when photographing the work.

Every colour within the range has an individual formulation to take advantage of each and every pigment characteristic and ensure tube stability.

One of the natural attributes of gum arabic - the binder used in Designers Gouache is that it is quick drying. This faster drying allows quick working techniques and preliminary sketching to be done. Also as with water colour, work can be finished quickly and as a result travelling with work is made much easier.

Holbein Designers’ Gouache, available in 89 brilliant opaque colours, is Japan’s foremost designers’ colour medium.
